- I’ve ignored a lot of silver plated items due to their condition and having seen a number of CZcams videos on cleaning silver and silver plate, I thought I’d give it a go on two pieces! One is using Bicarbonate or Baking Soda and the other is cleaned with Soda Crystals. What will they end up like? Take a look at the video to find out!
I thrifted a used silver plated serving tray, it was extremely tarnished. I cleaned it with a 'non scratch scrubbing gel'. after rinsing I noticed the silver on a few edges were worn away. It may have been that way previously, or it may have happened when I cleaned it. Thats alright, the tray was just $10, I can deal with it.
In the past, Ive used toothpaste its very convenient and easy to use. I prefer toothpaste. Although your method appears to be most effective! You should have shown the final polished results.
I dont know what soda crystals are or where to get them in the US. 🇺🇸
Just use Soda Crystals as it's more alkali than bicarb (plus it's cheaper)
I use Mcguiar’s Ultimate Compound to remove the tarnish then a good silver polish and a rag, makes them look like new!
I would give those silver items a good polish with Silvo. They may come out as new, or close to it.
Good
Hi Ward Antiques, I’m working on a new Cleaning TV Series for Ricochet TV Production Company (the makers behind The Repair Shop on BBC One) & we’d potentially like to feature this Video. What is the best way to contact you please?
How do you polish items after the bicarbonate aluminum hot bath bath to get items VERY shiny? Is there a follow up video?
Will try. Thanks

Can I use this method to clean crusty pewter mugs?
Not something I’ve tried but I can’t see why not
Get to the point
