anytime you want to poke holes through things the easiest cleanest way is a torch.weather a micro torch or if you can handle a regular household torch.and heat something up near the size of the hole then it's like pokeing through no resistance.usually minor fume.always use something hollow.i try to keep a book of old hollow things around for just this.old metal pen cases.tubing.old aluminum flashlights.tjick or thin the cleanest easiest way to put holes in plastics.keep in mind you'll want gloves or a insulated tool to keep the heat off your hands.small vice grips that adjust.and yes it sometimes leaves material in the tube but you can reheat it holding it so it drops out on a wet peice of paper and your ready for the next hole. believe me when you have a lot of holes to make: you'll appreciate how fast you can do it.

If you apply the seal similar to what is used on fridge doors that looks almost like an accordion that would help the door seal better and you can buy those at hardware stores .
What do you recommend for me to use on plants in my room that bare fruit to get rid of gnats ,but will still be safe when it comes time to eat the fruits and vegetables from the plants?

If you use tap water you may get deposits over time, its easy to clean but gross anyway. Plants look happy
Erika a couple of small magnets might help hold that strip on if it tends to get loose in places.
