The Ruth Stout method (for those who don't know it) is planting in deep mulch beds. More or less it is 4-6" of mulch, with potatoes set in them about a foot apart, with 4-6" of mulch on top of the potatoes and then more again once they sprout. So it isn't all that different, except I add compost and then mulch instead of mulch and mulch. The Stout method is probably pretty similar in production, but I haven't tested it. Was this just for a demo or would you really use all that space for one row of potatoes? I do three rows in a bed this wide - staggering potato chits each row.
It was a demo because it is early and I wanted to get the video up before everyone has planted. I will put three rows in this bed. My usual spacing is 2.5-3 ft between rows and 1 ft between plants. Thanks for watching!
