    french man here, i have to admit our cars are not the most reliable indeed, not as bad as italians or english cars of course but we do have a few "merguez" (it's how you call a shitty car in french)
    but our cars handle the best, the take corners the best and they are the most fun to ride hands down
    when you see an old clio you can clearly see what is important to us : the interior is made of plastick and cardboard with carpet on it, and the car looks meh but it has a kick ass engine, very reliable, very powerfull, the car handles perfect and is very light too
    if you are loocking to get into car racing, the best option for a cheap first car is a french car because you are pretty much gong to drive it like it was intended to be driven.
    it's simple :
    most comfortable and reliable : german
    most beautiful and passionate : italian
    most fun to drive and best bang for your buck : french cars
    and sorry but everyone in europe thinks american cars are the worst lol
    mostly because in europe we drive, we don't do drag races

      Old rear wheel drive Peugeots were actually very reliable, good for a number of safari-rally wins. The 403, 404, 504 and 504 coupe V6

    • @nytim666
      @nytim666 Před 3 lety

      @@jfv65 true, however, we had a few bad cars, especially with the automatic gearbox because basically no one wants automatic in europe, we all use sticks, this is changing now but most cars are still sticks so french automakers didn't really bother with automatics and they got into it really late and put out a few very bad cars because the gearbox was just a mess. Other than that they aren't bad at all.
      i drive the latest clio at work it's a small engine with a big turbo, it flies through traffic and roundabouts like a demon and it never had an issue although i drive it long distances all the time
      the 208 is also a killer, my colleague has one and i can't keep up with it it has tremendous grip in corners

    When the tires were good and slick, covered in oil (brakes and everything was covered in the stuff) I then started driving around that night and completely smashed the shit out of it. Great fun night

  • @jfv65
    @jfv65 Před 3 lety +6

    They used to race these 505 turbo's in SCCA: czcams.com/video/2TQpgdgPTog/video.html
    Fun fact:
    - Peugeot is the oldest brand in the car business.
    - Peugeot was one the last manufactures that made their own shock absorbers themselves. That's why those older Peugeots had such a very nice balance between handling, grip and ride comfort.
    Peugeot was also one of the first brands to use the Michelin TRX tires on the 505turbo and the 604sti/gti.
    - the engine block in the 505 Turbo is actually NOT a Peugeot engine but a Chrysler design! And it had a bad reputation for blowing head gaskets. But it was just as fast as a euro spec bmw e28 528i.
    The NA Sti engine IS a proper Peugeot design (with hemi head!)

    This means that I will choose one of the 2 French makes of car, that PSA make, since they make almost indestructible diesel engines.

      @@ugemellt I have, the steering wheel position is strange and it lacks character in my opinion. Both the 1.2 and the GTI although I must admit for a 1.2 I managed to get 210km/h out of it which is very impressive in comparison to the other hatchbacks.

      So true, my first car was a 205 XS Roland Garros, and it was an absolute blast do hoon around, and that the thing with old peugeos, they get surprisingly good handling out of surprisingly shitty tiers, i drove mine on the "Norauto" branded tiers she got when i got it and they are like no name discount tyers, never changed them and she just keep holding even on drenchend roads.
      Sold it like five years ago and still regret it

    peugeots take well to california climates. You can find countless in Africa. The only thing fooky can be the electrics and rust, otherwise if you keep it in a dry climate it's fine.

    Awesome car. Absolutely unkillable, well, except for the turbo engine which was really a GM unit.

      Actually,the 2.2 N9T in 505 Turbo was originally a Talbot- Simca engine....no relationship to GM period. Porsche did the engineering to turn it into the Turbo version. The N9T is also completely unrelated to the Renault belt driven 2.2 that became the Base gas engine in all US spec 505s in 1988.

      @@dmcnamara9859 Who owned Talbot/Simca at the time before it was taken over? It was GM. Then the unit you call Renault, which was part of PRV engine cooperation (in reality a Peugeot engine) never made it to the US.

      @@vs6300Renault 2.2 was 1 st available on lower displacement USA spec: Renault 18i Fuego, Winnebago Le Sharon ( both gas/ turbodiesel,the Eagle Medallion, Peugeot 505. Roots,Simca, Talbot all fell under Peugeot umbrella after Peugeot bought Chrysler Europe operations in 1970s. The iron block N9T was available ( long before it was a turbo) was available on Sunbeam Tiger. The all aluminum Renault 2.2 was indeed manufactured at the V6 plant in Belgium,yet was made at other Renault plants in various displacements. The odd fire 2.7 litte 90 degree V6 was originally intended as a small V8 but OPEC hit and Peugeot looped 2 cylinders off.
