- Based at the Bluebell Railway in Sussex, O1 Class - 65 has touched down on the Swanage Railway, as the loco is set to star in their forthcoming ‘Victorian Weekend’; being held over the weekend of March 22nd-24th.
This sole surviving O1 first emerged from Ashford works in 1896 as a South Eastern Railway O Class. In 1899, the SER amalgamated with the London, Dover & Chatham Railway to form the South Eastern & Chatham Railway, and it was under their ownership that 28 members of the O Class were rebuilt with larger boilers to form the O1 Class. 65 was rebuilt as such in 1908, and would go on to provide a total of 65 years’ service before withdrawal in 1961 by British Railways. Bought for preservation in 1963, the O1 arrived at the Bluebell Railway in the late 1990’s; which is home to a further 5 SE&CR locomotives. 65 remains the only surviving Ex-SER locomotive.
Once 65 had been unloaded onto Swanage metals, resident Class 33 - 33111 would tow the Victorian veteran to Swanage where 65 would be shunted onto shed road, line astern with T3 Class - 563. The pair share over a combined 250 years of history between them, with 65 at 128 years old in various guises, and 563 celebrating its 131st birthday during March.

Bulleids and black fives are beautiful but this victorian elegance is absolutely gorgeous. And to be able to see them 'ALIVE' is simply divine.
Superb Victorian pair of locos !
Looking forward to seeing them both in steam on Friday!
What an eligant looking locomotive
Can’t wait to see them in action Sunday
Awesome! Hope you show the O1 and T3 together!
With any luck...
They complement each other, classic Victorian elegance.👍👍👍
It is very good seeing them together
These Victorian locos are wonderful!
very nice!
Cheers
Finally we are having a renaissance of glamorous liveries, after 30 years of drab.
Also the locos and stock coming out of LSL recently are bling bling.
Cannot wait to see them doublehead
I really wanna go see the T3 in action at some point. If only I didn't live 7+ hours away.
One to plan for, maybe an overnight stay! Lots to see in and around Swanage and Corfe. Even the bus route from Bournemouth via Sandbanks chain ferry or the boat cruise from Poole are highly attractive. There may be some combined tickets for these in future!
I hope you don’t me asking, but when is the O1 leaving Swanage?
An excellent question... no idea
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Interesting, from what I can see it’s staying for a while. There’s no planned service on RealTimeTrains saying otherwise. I find it funny that I’m replying to this whilst looking at the loco in question 😂!
What is the name of this new locomotive
Much like T3 Class - 563, O1 Class - 65 does not have a name.
Great to see these two veterans together. Thanks for all your coverage of interesting events and no doubt we can look forward to some more great footage from the Victorian Weekend :)
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. With any luck...
Welcome seacr 65
