  • Following an updated contractual agreement between locomotive owners Southern Locomotives Ltd and the Swanage Railway, Bulleid Light Pacific 34053 "Sir Keith Park" is to see out its current boiler ticket as a member of the Swanage home fleet.
First restored in 2012 by SLL, themselves based in Swanage, Rebuilt 'Battle of Britain' Class 34053 "Sir Keith Park" became a resident at the Severn Valley Railway until the contract expired at the end of 2017. Upon arrival at the line, 34053 paid a visit to Herston Works for some winter maintenance, before journeying to the railway. Class 33 33111 was tasked with collecting 34053 from the loading ramp at Norden, before towing the loco to Swanage.
All footage filmed on Wednesday the 7th of March 2018.

A spell in hospital, under a drug induced coma for life-saving surgery, put me into a WW2 situation where I was at RAF Manton (never been there before in my life, well, not in this one). Recovered from the fuselage of an aircraft I was taken home. I spent many hours watching the trains go by at a place unknown but, even after ten years of better health, I can remember every detail. I must make a model of what I saw of the trains, and the place I was at..........the MN streamlined plied their trade in the valley below, often stopping at the Station and I could hear the coal yard being shunted. I never had an affiliation with the SR (being born & brought up in MR/ER territory), but after that episode I somehow feel I had been there before..........brilliant video. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad you returned to better health. There's something rather hypnotically wonderful about the motions of these locos from any region, and the meticulous nature to which the railway is run. Don't hesitate to make the model, for the memories behind it are worth the time building it. Thanks very much.

Interesting footage of coupling up to the tender. I don't think I've ever seen that done before./

Rather a delicate operation, in spite of the size and weight of the locomotive but with a driver like Dave Gravell in charge the problems are minimised.
