It's returning back to the late 80s early to mid 90s era. That area was cleaned up around 1999-2000.
This is so not true. I live in that area and it’s not near what the news is showing. These media outlets love to lie to keep us divided
Anyone "NOTICE" The Girl Getting her Hair pulled in the background?🤷🏼♀️🤣
Stop it 😂😂😂
lol i saw it G
What a lovely & vibrant group of people.
Weird how everyone's commenting that "it's going back to the 80s-90s", neglecting the fact that since the 80s-90s, much of the rest of the city has improved, yet East Harlem is fighting the same exact battles against itself that it always has.
Nah i had friends who lived in that area & it was on the up & up until stop & frisk ended.
@@DB-115Yes, gentrification really slowed down in Harlem, at least East Harlem. Basically opioids replaced crack??
@@DB-115Nah bro it never got better what basically happened was when 125 and Lexington started getting cleaned up because of all the building developments all the drug addicts came to 116
@@joeyskywalker1322 bro I remember first visiting that area around 98' where I spent the weekend & it was extra grimey. I was living in Philly at the time & I had a friend who I met at a baseball camp in Pa. who lived on 121st & 2nd & we became cool. I remember meeting up with him & his other homie at 116th & lex station. It's the late evening & we go to his crib & dropped my stuff off. We immediately clicked up with his people one by one by going to their buildings & accumulating in numbers. I'm like "wow.. this is interesting.." They rolled in numbers accumulating as that was what kept them from getting violated. And they all had weapons.. and nah these kids wasn't on no gang shit or trouble makers. We were for the most part baseball players with hopes to play in college where they were all Dominican & I'm the only black one. But as said this is how we they rolled regularly from their experiences. It was an interesting weekend where I seen some wild shyt. Fast forward 2006 I move to NYC & my man still lives in the same area. I link up with him & I'm looking around at the neighborhood & it's just different. There's white residents, nice store fronts & it's in a gentrification period. My guard is completely down. That's how comfortable it felt. I learn I have some white co-workers live in the area so they're inviting me to their spots & I'm all up in there all times of night, solo as a young professional, buzzed, high of smoke, no weapon, not a care in the world. Never had anything go down. It definitely improved over the years but when I went back to visit my Dominican homie who still lives there last winter for his daughter's christening it def. went back in time. It's grimey again. I had my 6 year old son with me & was def. on high alert. I didn't see any white people out being care free. Even had the stun gun & the 7 inch just in case. There was def. a stint where it was on the up & up. I was there living in it.
Starting to look like Kensington PA😢
Noooooo. Not on that level. Hopefully not.
It's been that way for YEARS
Now this place looks like a nightmare" period

😂😂😂😂
😂😂Lol
LMAOOOO
This disparity is occurring because local and federal law enforcement are benefitting from that situation.
Facts!! the policies turned it into this mess. This wasn’t allowed in this area 10-15years ago. It was always there but Not at this level. Shit looking like the new jack city era
This happening in other areas of NYC not just Harlem 😢
Noooooo.. These neighborhoods are VERY anti-police and anti-government!! THATS WHY!
IT'S LOOKING LIKE THE 80's and 90's ALL OVER AGAIN!@@albertogonzalez8871
Why should people care about people that don’t care about themselves.
Prevention should be the focus any suggestions
Because it spreads to others and brings property value down. That’s why
These dope fiends are not even from from New York. These are some white dope fiends who come from other states and the system throws them in Harlem and the South Bronx.
That attitude is why things are the way they are. We need the what "happens to you, happens to me" mentality because it actually does
It’s called being a human and having empathy for people dealing with the human condition.
What’s new it been this way since the 90’s
been that way for generations. look at the reenacted scenes in Carlito's Way or talk to anyone over 50.
Yeah,Thier gonna clean it up,lol ,106 st thru 125 st has had Dope Spots since the Early 60s ,they had it under control in the 90s , but that Ship Sailed since fentanyl replaced heroin
@@Mike-gx8ejYou're so right 💯% My father moved to New York City from Puerto Rico in 1968 and got hooked on heroin. By 1970 he "disappeared" We believe he was murdered since he ran with a bad crowd. His body was never found 😔
@@elenaarman-tang7811 sorry about your Dad ,I was hooked on Heroin for 30+ years ,I've known many people who like your Dad just disappeared ,many addicted people who are found on the Street dead are never identified or make the news
I lost my ex girlfriend to drug use over a year ago and not mentioned on my birthday 🎂RIP Holly 🙏🙌💔
Casey’s bday was yesterday
WHERE'S THE BARTENDER 😂😂
Born & raised in the ❤ of Harlem 121st & Lenox Ave. Growing up as a little girl, I remember when between 124th & 125th Streets were FLOODED with herion addicts. I grew up in the herroin/crack error & remember seeing as a kid, walking home, and having to walk through that horrific scenery needles and crack bottles lying on the street. I remember as a kid having to walk through the herroine addicts nodding out and walking in my building where I lived at the time, crack addicts smoking it in my building. It was traumatic having to grow up around that. I remember when they moved all the herrione addicts from 125th and Lenox Ave to 125th and Lexington Ave, and it's sad to see that they STILL haven't cleaned it up YET since my childhood days. Sad!! Soon (if not already), it's going to start to look A LOT like Kingsington PA.
Is there going to be a part 2?
She answered like a politician, refusing to hold herself accountable for giving these criminals a pass
No accountability. Typically progressive and politician.
The migrants get dropped off in Manhattan and the dope gets dropped off in Harlem
Na then new York Ricans and blacks in Harlem love they dope looks the same in the south Bronx
dope
So many caucasian users too. Never seen that in my lifetime of living here.
Haven’t been there since like summer
East Harlem is a vibrant friendly neighborhood. I’m happy whenever I’m visiting their restaurants and bakeries. I have a favorite on 116th near Lexington.
History repeating itself !
Great reporting Lisa Evers 👏👏👏🙌🏽 There needs to be a change in East Harlem soon!
Used to work over there
116 can work that could get cleaned up, 125 cannot, that will forever be like that
All those billions the government sent to Ukraine and Israel could have definitely fixed a lot of these inner cities issues.
She's nuts this area has always been drug infected way back in the 80s this did not just start
They're SUPER late reporting on this underlying issue.
@Mends appreciate your honesty can't be a good outcome per mental health 💔✌️
The West side too ...all messed up
This is my neighborhood and there’s literally a truck giving these needles out SMH
Thank you, Lisa Evers, Recently, a "3 Agency Task Force", supposedly cleaned up & made some improvements. Last week, Saturday early evening, riding in a cab from the Bronx, traveling down Lexington Ave, a slight improvement but still too many "zombie type", "out of Towners'", high as hell, standing, falling in the corners. Less garbage, an attempt to remove old construction materials seems to be in the works. STILL A LONG WAY TO GO!!!! IT'S HEARTBREAKING!!!!!?🗽🗽😭😭😔😔✌️✌️✌️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ive been over there and Lexington ave looks like the 80s 0f NY
Come to Jamaica queens it’s the same on Sutphin Blvd and 40 projects
Not opioid epidemic but natural selection
Yup
This been going on
I have been seeing a lot of crazy people, there are a lot of drug addicts in Harlem. I live in Washington heights sometimes the crack heads elope around like zombies. It’s so scary they where shooting up on my stoop.
Medical Gaslighting, medical upcoding doctors trying to make patients addicted to opioids, then Deblasio making it a drug okay zone big crazy drug eye deblasio
They leave the streets to head down into the train stations.
Must be all them damn gentrafiers. Them people ain't got no shame!
The new Kensington street, PA…
It sucks how drug help but also destroy
How dare people talk about Philly
The new Kensington
Born in East Harlem
Jefferson projects

@@daneblack2593 maybe...you know box, Gene, pudge?
@@daneblack2593 second half
No I don't but those projects were kind of big
so if you want to go to a restaurant and eat food you won't want to because of those drug users in the streets were they want to even sleep on the streets afther they get high that comotion of these drug users all in the streets getting high with like needles is not for young kids or adolecent like teenagers to see, what about in the West Harlem part is there drug users like this like in East Harlem like in West 116 st and up to West 125 st
😞
They need to go see 3rd avenue 149th street in The Bronx that’s zombie land what they showed ain’t nothing smh
When you decriminalize drugs and stop police from enforcing laws then you get what you ask for, chaos...
I lived in Manila for half a year. I’ve seen lots of homeless but noone of them were drug users maybe some alcoholics but u don’t see them drinking publicly.
When there was an epidemic in PH government took there responsibility and made it legal for cops to kill or jail anyone that was doing anything drugs related. Even suspicion of drugs use could be fatal for you. Streets became safe again and problem was solved. As someone that doesn’t do drugs this seems to be a great solution and should be implemented worldwide
Decriminalized drugs has nothing to do with it
These are the bozos that scream “defund the police” and yet complain when cops don’t show up when you need them.
Just go to 125 and Lexington and you see all of it live and in color
Dammmmmmnnnnn
I have been living in Harlem for more than a year. I don't think so, the situation is getting better. It can say stable or worse. Over a month, I have witnessed 4-5 incidents where victims didn't get any instant assistance neither from police nor from community.
Self vs self. Nobody can help u if u don't wanna help urself out of this. No one gonna protect u more than u protect for ur own life. In reality, the faster they go to heaven, the better it is for the community, police, tax payer, etc.

These dope fiends are not even from New York. They're some white dope fiends who come from other states.
“Its going back to the 80’s and 90’s”. Its been like that since the 80s and 90’s. Its news now because east harlem hasnt been fully gentrified yet so thats next up on list. So now they want to do news clips about cleaning it up.
I'm a new yorker born in the State NY Long Island Hempstead but raised outta East Harlem and Brooklyn NY. But East Harlem omg that is The epitome of crack cocaine and all of the modern twenty first century drugs in the world stopping grounds in america. Being born out there in the early 80s and 90s with my father. That was some difficult days and times but all on what was once there before and what is still remaining. Don't think there was cooling that I opioid epidemic. Back then, it was cool, not a crack academic that they had going on. It's amazing how to keep changing the names. Because white people are flourishly came in and out of neighborhood to keep up in it up the real estate market. But the real problem is homelessness, joblessness, Economic resources and education and Generational genocide of drugs to prison pipelines.
Y'all so dramatic..... East Harlem always been this way black Harlem drug dealer movies started the blaxploitation wave Dolemite black main Harlem to modern paid in full juice. This is gentrification hidden as drug clean up.
For some reason? That’s were they getting it from lol
Sad
Looks whose talk. NYPD lol
Do massive sweeps it's really bad. but doubt that happen.
us workers who get the drug addicts should extra pay for dealing with them and the homeless who reek of pee holy shit.
This would not be going on Downtown. Those people would write letters so fast and Contact Congress so fast that ypur head would Spin.!!!
North of 100 street in Manhattan is scary all year round not just Halloween.
Moral of the story don’t help drug users they can’t be saved
This is carp! Period.!
That bike got pretty close to the chief please be more aware thank you
That was nowhere near close 😂
What is NYPD doing to earn their early retirements and cushy pensions?
Same thing they've always done rob dope dealers lol
Oh really big crowd do Harlem getting money again

Damn i thought ny was more on point than this
One of the most corrupt city and state…
I got hit by a car that other day. Went to the ER, the first thing they offered me for the pain was fentanyl. They did the same ish back in the 80’s/90’s, then screamed it’s a drug epidemic.
The whole city is getting destroyed due to door and oxys dirty 30s smh I beat it I know you can as well who ever is struggling with addiction trust me it gets better I know withdrawals are the worst thing ever but trust me you just have to go through it in 2 weeks you’ll feel better yes that’s how long it takes but it’s worth it I guarantee you pls guys stop it’s so much better on this side kicking it was the hardest thing in my life once I did I told my self I can’t go back through that with the withdrawals been clean since July 18
Musty custys 🤧
😂😂😂
Everyone in Harlem, what, 1....2....5.... street. Harlem has a lot of good people there, a lot safer than Washington Heights. The facts are African Americans are the richest black people on Earth.
I know how to fix this problem.. just dont do it

This ish is everywhere. Have you heard about W. Va.? Within the top 5 of opioid addiction.
I live in this neighborhood and there’s none of that. I dunno where these images came from cause it’s nothing like that. Just your typical media lies
