  • This was an early morning departure onboard a Mokulele Airlines 10 passenger Cessna propeller airplane.
Mokulele Airlines is a local commuter airline optimal for island hopping around Hawaii.
I was here for a morning flight on Friday March 11, 2022.
This aircraft was leaving the island of Maui from Kahului Airport (OGG) for a 1 hour flight to the town of Hilo (ITO) on The Big Island of Hawaii.
So yes…the aircraft was suitable for 10 passengers. 2 seats per row for 5 rows.
At the boarding gate Mokulele Airlines assigns you your row to sit on based upon your weight for balancing out the airplane.
I was making this recording from Row 4 and sitting on the right hand side of the plane which the gate agent recommended to me for capturing the best and most scenic views from high above.
Btw…whoever enters the airplane first that’s sitting in your row, gets to choose which side of the aircraft they’d like to sit on. It’s like first come, first served.
Also…before boarding the prop plane…all the passengers…all 7 of us each took a brief second to take a photo outside the aircraft as sort of a touristy, memorable moment.
And yes…there were only 7 passengers with a 10 person max capacity.
Another note…this flight for me to island hop (one-way) cost $99.
When I arrived at the terminal any baggage item that I had with me was forced to be checked as the space on the plane was too small to store anything underneath the seat. And there were no overhead compartments either.
And…there were no flight attendants as well. It was just the passengers and 2 pilots.
Once given safety instructions from the pilots, we immediately taxied to the runway and departed within minutes.
    Some last info…
    - Mokulele Airlines’ terminal is located in a separate building apart from the main terminal. All you have to do is walk just past the primary terminal to find it.
    - Mokulele Airlines does not give boarding passes out and they don’t have an app for a smartphone either.
    - When the flight is ready to board they’ll call your name out beside the gated area. Then you’ll walk behind the fenced in section and board the airplane. Lol, there’s no jet bridge involved.
Now…I had the option to fly on Hawaiian Airlines over to Hilo for the same $99 price as Mokulele, but, I figured I’d get a cool sightseeing perspective with Mokulele rather than the standard Boeing 717 jumbo jet experience from Hawaiian Airlines.
That was certainly the case. I highly recommend flying with Mokulele to get that real feel touristy Hawaiian experience.
When finally leaving Hilo and heading over to Honolulu next on my itinerary…I then flew with Hawaiian Airlines.
One last thing….if your baggage onboard Mokulele is heavier than 15lbs, they charge you $10 extra for every 5lbs extra.
My carryon bag which I had to check weighed 25lbs so I was forced to pay $20 extra on top of the initial $99 fee I paid when booking online. Still, imo, it was really cheap for what I felt like was a sightseeing experience.
This Mokulele Airlines flight was beautiful for flying during the day.
I made 2 other recordings from my flight experience looking down upon the beautiful beach coastline when flying over The Big Island. I will post those shortly.
Thank you for taking a moment to watch this video and takeoff recording.
I am grateful to all of you for watching!
And I am always interested in any comments you may leave or constructive criticisms on what I can do better.
God Bless. See you next time!
