- After leaving San Francisco I headed north to visit Redwood National Park and State Parks, stopping for some beach camping at Usal Beach along the way, and as many Redwood attractions I could find.

Would you rather camp in a Redwood grove or on the beach?
Redwood Grove. Love this part of California.
That’s a good one the beach…
@@normancarbajal5154 as long as it isn’t windy hah
Redwood grove..hands down
Redwood Grove for me every time. So humbling.
Hello! I’m Jeff with the Road March Project. I visited Redwoods National and State Park back in April. Except I drove south coming from Oregon and I stayed in Crescent City. When I was driving at one point the forest was so thick I couldn’t get a signal on the satellite radio. Also I was blown away by the coastline. I had the opportunity to capture some amazing photos and videos of the sun setting. Anyway, this is a very informative video. Good job 👍🏾
Amazing Jeff, that’s so wonderful. It’s a spectacular place, I would love to go back in the fall and explore more of the state parks too
Hello, I will be going up to visit the Redwoods in October.
I absolutely love it up North in the Redwoods! Heaven on Earth. ❤️
It is beautiful.
Avenue of the Giants is a little over 30 miles but the scenic part is about half that.
Thank you Alice for another great video
Awesome Alice. I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep the good work up.
Excellent video, with lots of great info about trails. Much appreciated. 😃
Beautiful view nice buddy❤❤❤❤
One of my favorite trips up the coast there was a weekend spent at Point Reyes (in 1992!). Spent the entire day on the beaches there, drawing the rocky cliffs and arches along the surf! thanks for taking us along on your trip!
Please come pick me up sometime when you pass by Spokane! I'd love to travel with you for a few weeks. 🏔️
I was in the Redwoods National Park a few years ago with a bunch of fellow camera nerds. We did several areas in the parks, including the Lady Bird Johnson Trail. We, like you, were soaked the entire time. Thanks for stirring up some great memories. I would love to go back.
Nice one Alice !
Hi Alice. Great Video. I was just out there a few weeks ago. Spent 3 days backpacking in Point Reyes and then 3 days in Redwood. Camped at Gold Bluff and Flint. Fern Canyon was amazing. Great trip. Your video took me right back there. Thanks.
Alice, thanks for sharing. Definitely beautiful scenery and a very nice choice in music . I always enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming.😊
Thank you Tim
Great video Alice
The nice thing about hikes like these in “bad” weather is you’re so much more likely to get the place to yourself. Running into someone occasionally is totally fine. But when it gets to amusement park status… no thanks. Even though there is a beauty in the fog and rain, it does look like it would be amazing on a clear day. Thank you for the video, Alice.
Oh without a doubt. Beautiful on a clear day I’m so sure
This video really hit a soft spot. Having lived in the Pacific Northwest, Redwood always been an interesting site. Those giant red cedars are majestic and the coastline represents the weather going on and out of season I would say. I love your hat, please wear that one. Camping on the beach can be wet with the tides even though the weather is cooperating, there is that moisture floating that gets through your gear. Camping inland might help and it is best for a bonfire to help keep things dry. Thanks for sharing Alice, that was great footage 🇨🇦⛺️🥾🌹😎
Thank you. I didn’t shoot much footage from my camp out but I did have a fire and slept somehow incredibly warm and comfy it helps to have my car with lots of blankets
Awesome video. Hope to make it here one day.
Next year trip!!!! Thanks for the guided tour.
Yes and with some planning there is so much more to see and hike
Such a beautiful part of the state. Brings back memories of our travels to places you shared. Next time we hope to venture there to get some beach camping in too. Happy travels!
Oh yes please do just avoid the weekends there as it gets quite rowdy
I’m in Northern California. Your videos are awesome, you do such a great job on them. Really like your recent National Parks videos. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Brad
Wow Alice, your videos are getting better and better! I have a new 4k monitor too so they're looking great too. Plus, you're getting poetic, as in 13:08 :
My favorite parts of this area are these coastal headlands
where the forest meets the sea,
where the deep fog rolls in and covers everything,
and where you have the green ferns meeting the ocean.
Thank you Nigel. I think after many years I’m finally finding my voice with a bit more confidence
A definitely bucket list destination for me.
Wahooo
Thanks for doing this! I moved away and forever love the redwoods and the s🌊 ❤
I had to move a few years ago. I miss my home.
I really love this road trip Alice! I wish you could’ve not gone alone tho 🤦🏽♀️! But stunning, truly 🤩!
Thank you and donæt worry about me I love traveling solo
Good morning Alice thanks for the tour its beautiful there. Every time i've been there it been damp and rainy goes with the territory. Sorry missed you live couldn't get back in time. Be safe have fun
Thanks Phillip no worries see you in the next one. And yes those rainstorms are what keep that area alive
Some of my ancestors crossed the Oregon Trail in 1851 and settled in southern Humboldt County around Petrolia and the Whitethorn/Shelter Cove area. Old-growth redwoods are magical!
Wow how cool is that.
Really appreciate your videos Alice! Heading to Sequoia in a few days.
Have a great time!!
Planning a trip this year. From Ohio
Lovely xx
amazing!! Will try to fly to portland and drive from there a good adventure for me. I am from ontario Canada and i love camping
Another great video! Thank you Alice. I am from central California and have yet to discover this and Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Ohh well you must take a wander up north
I miss living in that area so much. Hope you been well Alice.
Thank you it is certainly beautiful
One of my favorite concert shoes is Kenny Loggins live at Redwood National Park.
Hi Alice! What a beautiful place I got to see because of you! Thank you! I am housebound because of health issues so this is the way I travel.
Kathy I am so glad to have been able to show you some of the beauty in the world
@@AliceFordAdventures, your videos are much appreciated, exquisite In quality and I’m going to thoroughly enjoy all of them. I may be dreaming of some of these places!Thank you so much!
In Sedona USFS and BLM works with AZ state parks in in some areas. See the "red rock pass".
Coffee Stipend!
Careful, it gets into your subconscious roots, this kind of primal abundance in the nearshore zone of the wet lush NorCal coast, that we earthlings resonate with beneath the sheer stunning superlatives and moods that dominate one's sensorium at every turn.
Very scenic compared to the dry hills around Dublin and Pleasanton, being close to the ocean moisture makes all the difference.
It sure does, that almost constant moisture certainly makes things lush
Hi there thank you for such a gentle stroll through the Redwood forest. I am wondering what time of year this trip took place in as I am planning.
This was Mid May
Pine and Aspen trees in Colorado or Redwoods and Sequoias in California... Hope I never have to choose. View from the beach at 12:50 reminded me of The Goonies. Guess the kid in me lives on. Thanks for the information.
Just recently discovered your channel. Really liking your content! A lot of locations you feature are on my bucket list! I've crossed off RMNP, the Badlands, Congaree National Park and Smokey Mountain NP. Have you visited Badlands National Park? Highly recommend it! Thanks for sharing your experiences!!
Thanks Richard. I have not been to Badlands but have had many recommendations to visit
There's an alternative to the Tall Trees Trail, but it's an 8.5 mile hike on the trail along Redwood creek each way (and it's worth it). I think (it's been a long time) you take the same road out of Orick as you do for the Tall Trees Trail, but you're on it for less than a mile. It's a lot longer, but since it's along the creek, it's much less steep.
Oh yeah, I just looked that up on the map and I assume you don’t need a permit for that one. It also says you can camp along the creek in that area what I’m sure would be awesome but full of slugs.
@@AliceFordAdventures
We didn't need a permit, but it was a long time ago. I think you're right since it's such a long walk. Not many people would line up for that hike. Didn't need one for Fern Canyon back then, either. I don't think the area's any more sluggy than average for in the redwoods. There were a lot of newts crossing the trail, though -- the ones with the red bellies. I have an old hiking guide book that says it's one of the few places where you're supposed to camp by the water instead of away from it. I wonder if that's changed, too. Oh, another thing that book says is that the bridges (the trail crosses the creek at least twice that I remember) aren't there during the winter.
Thank you. I enjoy your videos. I have not been to that redwoods area. However, I went to another redwoods park near Santa Cruz once, and they were awesome. Interestingly, there are planted redwoods groves in Hawaii (on Maui) and in New Zealand (near Rotorua) that are nearly 100 years old, that you can visit too.
Wow on Maui really? I’m surprised they can survive where it’s so warm year round. The redwood groves near Santa Cruz are marvelous as well
@@AliceFordAdventures I believe the grove is on the giant Haleakala shield volcano, which rises to over 10,000 feet. So it has a variety of ecosystems between sea level and ~10,000 feet. I believe the redwood grove is at an elevation of about 6000 feet in the Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area.
A lot of love from Pakistan ❤
Thank you
You should visit the UK. Some beautiful places here that I'm sure you would appreciate.
Oh yes I love Wales 🏴
Did you make it to the enchanted forest on usal rd??
No but that loooks amazing I’m sad I missed it
A shame the producer sent you out to film in such weather. Also too bad the residents of Elk Meadow didn't come out to say hello. Fern Canyon is worth a visit & down the road from Elk Meadow, but may require a reservation to enter.
Hi Tom, yes I am my own worst producer haha. I wanted to do Fern Canyon but didn’t know about the reservation system until I got there. A definite must on my next visit
Alice - have you ever been to Scotland or Ireland in your adventure?
Not yet but I really would love to
Where did u get those seat covers in ur Jeep?
Great question my car is very old I dare say Quadratec but it’s been almost 10 years so I’m not sure 🤔 sorry
When I do the Coastal trail I’ll bring some Trader Joe’s Coastal Red wine cheers Alice! 🍷…
You’ll love that trail this beach I camped at is right on the route
Alice which one 1st Redwood or Sequoia NP? 🤔…
Do you think Orick, Ca is a livable place to live? What's your general impression?
Sorry John I have no idea. The town is very small, I can’t imagine what you would do for work there unless you’re a freelancer. I don’t think I even stopped in the town. Beautiful and rainy for sure though
Rain pants..boo! Well I was thinking the game "Myst" and that you did not see Bigfoot - maybe next time??
Yes Bigfoot next time 😆
Ok - I am game if you can do that. I mean, go all in!
Honestly what I expected was that you drive along the freeway and take a stop at each city(for ex; fort bragg, eureka, mendocino, fortuna etc) then explain/explore that area, but your video literally has no drive involved, just walking on trails, but sorry thats just my thoughts. I am from california for the last 25 years, but never visited redwood forests yet, but i am planning to.
You want to see my car driving? I also am not a city person I like nature, and heading out on trails. Redwoods is a huge area 3 state parks, dozens of small towns and many options of things to do. Sorry my video didn’t appease to your travel style. Hope you make it up there one day
