  • In Game 3 of the 1991 World Series, the Twins rallied from a 4-1 deficit entering the 7th inning with a pair of home runs -- first from Kirby Puckett, then from Chili Davis. The game remained tied into the 12th, and Atlanta won on a base hit by Mark Lemke.
    This video is the original CBS broadcast with Jack Buck and Tim McCarver, including pre and postgame coverage.

    I'm a White Sox fan who lived in a suburb of Atlanta from the summer of 1991 until the fall of 1993. This Braves team was a LOT of fun to watch, and the excitement by the fans starting around August of 1991 was something to behold. It reminded me of a scaled-down version of the frenzy that I saw in the Chicagoland area when the Bears went to the Super Bowl in 1985. Except that some people could see the Bears dominating after the 1984 season, but NO ONE expected this from Atlanta. I sure didn't!
    The fans were doing the tomahawk chop everywhere, the local radio stations were playing songs dedicated to the Braves, and they even put on a pretty neat laser light show at Stone Mountain.
    And the tomahawk chop was absolutely intimidating in that stadium.
    It was a great time to live there as a baseball fan. I will readily admit to jumping on the bamdwagon during this time, though I would have definitely rooted against them if they had played the White Sox. Lol
    This might have been the best all-around World Series i have ever witnessed. It was a lot of fun.

    Greg Olson, the Braves' catcher, knew Rick Aguilera could hit, and knew that he would be sent up to bat in the pitcher's spot in that 12th inning. He said he told Cox and anyone else who would listen that his old minor league teammate could swing the bat and that was why Gant was playing at regular depth in center instead of shallow like he ordinarily would have been with an AL pitcher at the plate.

    Just realized that when I checked out some of game 7 of the 1987 World Series that Terry Pendleton lost TWICE-to the Twins, at the Metrodome, game 7s

    • @ADEAL918
      @ADEAL918 Před 4 lety +3

      Yeah Pendleton was injured in that ‘87 series-he had pulled a rib cage muscle running the bases in Game 7 of the NLCS so he couldn’t throw and couldn’t bat right-handed. He was reduced to pinch-hitting duty for the World Series and DH-ing in the two games in MN started by right-handers.

      @@wpbarchitect1800exactly. Keep in mind he was only two years removed from working with the dream team when he was paired with Al Michaels and Jim Palmer. The three of them had AMAZING chemistry and they complemented each other so well that he didn’t have to try so hard with that combination-it all came off so naturally. Not the case with him and Jack Buck. He had better chemistry with Joe Buck, certainly, but still nothing compared with the Michaels and Palmer team.
