  • The final episode in our three part series - Whiskeys That Are Worth MORE Than Retail Price. These bottles come from distilleries who despite the delicious whiskey they produce and the demand, they have kept their prices affordable. If you ever see one of these bottles on the shelf at retail price you should definitely grab it. We believe they are worth far more than retail price!

    Been meaning to mention that for a long time being in the military I didn’t understand why suicide numbers were so high. But after being overseas for a year and having such a great community surrounding me and coming back home without that community I see now how important a community in my own life really is. If you have family in the military they NEED you in their life, do not let flying/driving long distances get in the way from seeing them.

      Military Chaplain here - post-9/11 war veterans have more than 4x as many deaths by suicide as have died in post-9/11 war. The numbers are beyond just that community, but poor stigma surrounding getting help. It’s getting better, but if nothing else at least go talk to a chaplain, we are 100% confidential.

      He went to a preacher's farm to live as a worker. He was given to Uncle Nearest Green as an assistant in the distillery on the farm. Uncle Nearest was a slave that the preacher had rented from someone. In his mind, it was OK to use slave labor as long as he was not the actual owner of the slave. Anyway, Jack grew up with Uncle Nearest's son George who was about the same age. When Jack started the distillery , George was his right hand man, which was not the cultural norm in that area during that time.

    • @zeppelinish1

      I like historical references when they are correct. The story concerning Jack Daniel blaming the north for his father’s death is a legend but the true history of the civil war concerning that legend is different. Kentucky declared neutrality at the beginning of the war. The south violated that neutrality which led to northern forces fighting for and winning back majority control by 1862. I include this comment so people won’t confuse real historical facts with legends. There were many southern sympathizers who fought for the Confederacy but no regiments or battle groups were sanctioned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The vast majority who served during the Civil War fought for The United States of America on the Union side.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  Před měsícem +2

      I don't think these stores pay much attention to the internet buzz around bottles. If they did, they would not price their bottles above the secondary price. I have told store owners countless times that I would not be interested in their bottles at that price because if I was willing to pay an exorbitant amount, I would pay less than their price on the secondary and have it shipped to my door. They always seem shocked that there is a source cheaper than theirs.

    Great show as always! Just so you know, it is nice when you're lucky enough to find a nice offering at MSRP. I do understand that there is a FOMO mentality among bourbon enthusiasts but, it's terrible that the market gets devoured to the extent that the offerings become completely unavailable to anyone. I can say that many of the overlooked offerings have become quite a blessing for the rest of us. Cheers! Oh! @@BourbonRealTalk I guess I'm not to worried about just you influencing the entire market it's just a lot of things have dang near doubled in price in a few years time and in the whiskey and bourbon world it seems word gets around fast on what's good and what's not, I'm pretty new to all this whiskey and bourbon stuff and I'm just thinking word gets around people start talking "I can't believe this whiskey doesn't cost more" and some CEO or company owner goes yeah why not let's start charging more.... the main thing I guess I've learned in the last 2 years is that I'll probably never get an allocated bottle or store picks unless I take a day off of work and stand in line for 4 hours ahead of opening and maybe only maybe will I get one. Hey, BTR. I have a theory. I'm in Memphis right now and there's bottles of 13th Colony Sour Mash floating around. These seem really old as they just entered this market and it's like they sent old back stock. The sour mash has some interesting info. DISTILLED in WYOMING. It may quite possibly be old stock of Wyoming's wheated mash bill. Or...they are pulling a Bowman and redistilling that old stock like Bowmam does BT stock.

      She was confusing two stories. I was right. She didn't walk in and ask nicely and then be handed a WLW. My local Goody Goody liquor has a raffle for their club account members. That year my uncle won and got the PVW20. My uncle is fully disabled and can not drive, so I went to pick it up. At that point the manager knew my wife was on the list, but was worried she would not know which bottle to pick for me from the list. When I picked up the PVW20, he made it seem like he might be able to reserve me an allocated bottle. It didn't seem implausible to me because we were pushing a bunch of SSW single barrels through the store and making them a lot of money, so I thought maybe he was going to hook me up as a thank you. He asked me which bottle I would pick, then he called Lindsey and told her she won and he had the bottle I wanted reserved. When I opened it on Christmas I panicked because I was afraid she got rolled by a price gouge store, but she paid SRP.

    Ill have to disagree personally on basically anything buffalo trace, aside from benchmark fullproof. I typically find buffalo trace products to lag behind their peers even at msrp (especially their wheated). That said, i know that you prefer buffalo trace products far more than i do and its your list not mine, but most of their products blind very badly for me. I do love those jack le bottles tho

      I was. Goody Goody has a lottery. I used to have all my family enter. My handicapped uncle won a PVW20, and he can't drive so I went to pick it up. The store manager knew Lindsey had won the lottery, but had the idea of not telling me so she could surprise me for christmas. He was afraid that she would not know what bottle to pick, so when I was picking up the PVW he asked me if he could hook me up with a second bottle what I would pick. This didn't seem odd to me, because at the time my whiskey club Someone Say Whiskey was pushing a lot of barrels through his store. They were making a ton of money for free, so it seemed plausible that he would hook me up. I told him WLW, and then forgot about it. When I opened the box christmas morning I panicked thinking she got ripped off by a price gouger, but it turned out the manager just pulled the WLW I said I wanted and sold it to Lindsey.
      There was another time she went in and asked for something special for me, and they sold her something cool, but it wasn't a BTAC. She just got the two stories confused. It was one of my favorite christmas gifts of my adult life, and I will never forget it and how it happened.

    I trust and understand your comments and judgement on Bourbon and the Bourbon Industry although a few things your channel has stated as truths seem to be somewhat questionable, but the comment about Kentucky changing side in the U.S. Civil war is 100% BS. Bourbon Real Talk should stick to Bourbon and leave history to historians. Does the Mason Dixon Line sound familiar at all?

      This seems like one of those situations where engaging is pointless, but you are only technically correct. While KY didn't technically succeed from the Union they provided troops to the southern cause. The Tennessee residence viewed them as allies in the war. When they formally joined the union cause, it started a rift that still adds weight to the state rivalry today (even if individuals are unaware of it). So everything I said perfectly portrayed the reality of the situation, but you are technically correct. I will take the L.

      This type of thing happens when you record hundreds of hours of content with large portions of the content unscripted bits of information you have collected over the years doing research. I believe the details of Jack Daniel's distain for KY was originally shared with me by author Joe Micallef. My recollection KY actually being on the side of the south v.s. the reality that they were neutral but later taking the north's side is what happens to some of my memories over time. I remembered the concept that created the sentiment, but misremembered the details. Regardless, TN has negative feelings toward KY because they entered the war for the north after TN had expectations that they would not be an enemy in the fight.
