That's the truth. He really seems to have this underrated ability to sense how he could fight in the moment to make it a exciting battle. His striking & his "put it all on the line" sorta approach to his fights don't get talked about enough compared to his wrestling.
I think it has a lot to do with his height and reach. He can’t sit back in Coast, he has to press the action which makes for good fights, even against guys who are trying to coast.
And for his build too it’s insane. The only way you’d deplete his gas tank was with body shots like Stipe did in the second fight. Then again that’s with most fighters. But DC’s cardio for how he was built was just scary. Imagine having a small bear relentlessly come at you and try to maul you all the while you’re just playing the long game and waiting till it gets tired but it doesn’t get tired and it just keeps in coming. That’s what I’d imagine fighting a prime DC was like. His cardio isn’t Covington/Ferguson level but it’s still top notch and scary as hell due to how relentless he can be.
@@toxicgoat341 I have a feeling that the champs now are better than before and in the next ten years they will be far greater than before 2010. Remember UFC’s been out only in the 90’s. Still a lot of evolution we see even in bjj today
Gus in his prime was about as good as they come but DC is the elite of the elite. He holds legendary status, winning 2 belts in two different divisions. He’s also beaten a whos who of MMA. Younger, prime DC was so damn great.
This fight was unbelievable, up there with Jones vs Gustafsson 1 for me. I remember watching it live and shortly after it happened and I've always believed it to be closer than the referees scored it Haven't' seen it in a while tho
DC has such underrated striking and approach to fighting and his way of thanking GUS because he looks at it with a great perspective. Even tuff battles r a gift u learn from
If DC had diet discipline he could’ve fought at 185 instead, which was his wrestling weight back in the day. His coaches even admitted it but they said he loves food too much lol

You know it's funny I love both of these guys and this video showing a different side of them. I am forgetful and that's a good thing because it's like watching this fight all over again because I don't remember who won honestly
Imagine how different things would be if the judges had scored Jones vs Gustafson for Alex....maybe the confidence from that win would've changed his entire career. He proved that he belonged in there with the best in the world with that fight and this one.
Amazing Larone, thank you very much. Gus is certainly the best to never win a belt IMO. Colby, I feel, was winning fight 1 but was decisively stopped and at the minimum drew if not won against Usman in fight 2, while Dustin, often titled one of the best to never win a belt, was definitively stopped in both his title attempts. While Gus was stopped by Jones in the 2nd fight, you can make a very, very compelling argument that Gus won against Jones and DC. To me, the DC fight pushed in DC's favour because of DC's clinch success coupled with Gus running away a lot. In a razor thin fight like that, the appearance of Gus doing his signature sprint probably convinced the judges.
I thought gus won the first Jones fight now that I watched it back alot of times I think the judges got it right , this was a way more competitive fight
The takedown rules are so damn janky. Gus launched DC to the floor from fully standing and laid flat onto his belly on all 4's yet it isn't counted as a takedown because Gus didn't then 'establish an attack', which, whether it's control, ground and pound or a sub attempt, is SEPARATE from the takedown. Weirdest rule.
DC is a guy in ashamed to admit I didn’t truly appreciate until he beat Stipe. Looking back it’s a shame that people like myself, and I own my major error, in not appreciating just how damn good DC is because of the Bones fiasco. DC genuinely deserves to be in the talk as one of the greatest of all time in the sport, a lock in the top five. If he wasn’t in the Bones era and retired when he hoped to he probably would be in many of those talks. Only lost to the the arguable GOAT of the entire sport and the largely accepted GOATof the HW class and even in those losses he made his presence felt.
Cormier could have ran through heavyweights instead just like he did before moving down and we’d probably be talking about the greates heavyweight of all Time. Because let’s face it, as a Natural Heavyweight DC was on paper and skill wise the most Talented

This fight was a robbery. Gus won 2 3 and 4. Only reason he lost by split decision was, a judge gave round 3 to cormier and it is not make sense for me. Even though some people will say oo "dc was dominating him whole round 3 until that shot" No, dc lost first 2 minutes of round and then came strong but still was back and forth and gus hit biggest shot of round, dropped him, almost finished him. İf that sequence cant steal a close round, i dont know what could.
Dude you need to hit that pipe some more cuz I don't know what you were watching. I just watched GUS eat fists and takedowns like it was thanksgiving dinner.
