You looked to be in pretty decent shape at the end, so well done, I've finished some 100 miles rides in absolute bits with 10 miles to go! It doesn't get easier, you just get faster!
Never a truer word spoken about the speed, Mick. Appreciate the comments as well. Not sure if I was just trying to keep it together on camera, but I felt ruined! 😂
Lots of training to do! 💪🏻
I really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing this for us! And I hope you are doing well! Working hard makes you stronger! That's what you are! And Never give up! Keep going because you are great! And you got my full support!
Thanks so much. I really appreciate your kind words. Great to have you on board. 👌🏻⭐️
Fella, you have a very natural, chatty style of presenting, with a nice mix of rides and tech stuff, and that's what keeps it interesting. I'm fussy about who I sub to, and I never comment unless someone actually manages to properly captivate me. As long as you continue being real, and being a personable individual as you have been, then whatever you put out will be fine. People try to put out the most shiny, polished, impossibly perfect production value-wise vlog, but the content sucks. *IF* you want to post a video, we'll consume it. This isn't a soap; we'll watch it when you want to give it to us; and that's just fine. You do you, don't do us, and we'll be along for the ride with you.
That was very well said!
Blown away by that, Sam! Thanks so much. You don’t realise how much that means to me.
I really appreciate having you along for the ride. ⭐️
Started cycling at the start of lockdown and done my first century one year late solo.. it was burtal but I still completed it , the following year I did the same route learning from my mistakes with proper fueling equipment etc I executed the 100 miles with relative ease .
Fantastic. Sounds like text book training and pushing yourself.
Nutrition is so important to long distance riding but such an easy thing to get wrong as well. Congratulations on your achievement. Have you got a new goal you want to hit now?
@@petertreadway I suppose my new goal is getting into the best possible shape I can .. maybe I should set more goals 🤔 maybe some longer distances.
@@lothburke2243 goal setting is a great way to not only better yourself but it also forces you to get out on the bike when motivation is lacking.
Whatever you choose, good luck with it. 💪🏻
first time i’ve found this vlog. entertaining and encourages me to get ready for my metric next weekend. Oh, the singing: don’t give up your day job. LOL! I’ll be back to see more of your vids.
Thanks so much for the kind words. Always lovely to hear from a new watcher, so really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. 👌🏻⭐️
Well done in both ways Peter, riding and vlogging.
Thanks so much, Kevin. Really appreciate that. 👌🏻⭐️
You did marvellous mate well done!!
Thanks Steven, really appreciate that. It didn’t feel like it at the time though! 😂
I cannot believe anyone could ride this far, your amazing! 🎉❤
Thanks buddy. Although, despite making it look very hard in this video 😂 riding 100 miles is very do-able for anyone with the right amount of training. 👌🏻⭐️
I thought it was another great video as usual so you needn't worry, plus it had the added benefit of Jimmy's dulcet tones 😂
Thanks Joey, although I think you're so far the only person to enjoy Jimmy's singing! 😂
Really appreciate the mind words though.
🌟
Hi Peter, another great video, no need to apologise. You are being very hard on yourself. I always find your videos good to watch and informative. I especially like the fact that you haven't sold out regarding sponsorship. Your workshop vids are good as quite rightly not everyone has unlimited money to spend on their bikes. Jimmy is a real animal on the the climbs and adds a lot of character to things. All the guys in the group spark off each other which is good to see. I'm sure you will get match fit for the Paris ride, unfortunately sometimes life gets in the way of what we like to do. Keep pedalling. Paul.
Thanks so much, Paul. I really appreciate your kind words.
I know the guys will appreciate it too. ⭐️
Well said Paul, although on the sponsorship thing. I'd trust Peter to pick carefully and maintain his integrity, unlike.... let's not go there😂.
@Robutube1 cheers Rob. I get quite a few emails offering free products but most of them don’t really fit, so turn them down.
I’d only ever promote anything I really believe in and is relevant to fellow cyclists. 👌🏻
Thanks for the weather report.
Stick around Walter, you'll get one in every video! 😂
New viewer here, thanks for a very enjoyable video. well done.
Thanks so much, Richard. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
Great to have you on board too. ⭐
I appreciated your candour on this one Peter, even if one of your 'off days' is decidedly as impressive as that one ride a year when I'm 'on it'! It is a wake up all for me too - I find it hard to get back in to the cycling habit after even a short break and one week quickly becomes two etc. so I will also be hitting the turbo trainer after watching this - my next Sportive is all too near😳. Good luck to us both😃👍.
Thanks Rob. Lovely of you to say that.
I completely relate to a non cycling week all too easily being followed by another, which is why CZcams has been good for me in a way, as it forces me out to make a video. That does create another problem with feeling the need to get a video out every week though! 🤦🏻♂️😂
What’s your next sportive?
@@petertreadwayWatch out for the self-imposed production pressure monster Peter - I'm sure we've both seen more than one person get fried by their imagined YT demons. Please do it because you like to, not have to! You're a breath of fresh air in 'Cycling CZcams' and if you miss a week here and there we'll wait.👍
My next Sportive is Newark Castle on 12th May.
@@Robutube1 it’s a very good point you make, Rob. I do love making the videos, however I’d be lying if I said I’d never gone out stressing about having to make one.
Thankfully that’s happened very few times over the last year since I started posting and it’s something I always keep a check on. Appreciate your advice on it though. 👌🏻
Best of luck in Newark though. I’m sure you’ll smash it. 💪🏻
Everyone needs a Jimmy on a ride.
Damn straight! 😉
Enjoyed that thanks
Thanks Joseph. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. 👌🏻⭐️
Another fab video, and I suspect the answer is - not very if you have Jimmy to encourage you on 😂. The sportive I'm doing in July has bottles of non alcoholic beer waiting at the finish line, and I suspect it is a common theme with Velo 29 events. The short route I'm doing is about 48 miles with just over 1500 feet of climbing. The medium and long ones are just mental, Jimmy would love them 😂😂
Cheers Alex, really appreciate that. Good to hear some events are supplying no alcoholic beer. As nice as a cuppa tea is, there's something about sinking something cold and fizzy at the end of a long ride!
The elevation on that 48 mile ride sounds fairly hefty though, so kudos and best of luck for attempting that.
As for Jimmy, I'm sure he'd fly around it! 😂
@@petertreadway 6th of July if you're interested 😉
Very nice vlog!
Thanks so much, Luis. I really appreciate that.
Thanks also for taking the time to watch.
👌
i did my first and only 100 mile ride last june, 2400m elevation when i finally got home, i couldn't bend my legs to sit down, don't really fancy doing it again but my brother in law is adamant that we do it by the end of august,,, joy "stats 10mph average on 40c 700c gravel bike + rain" that was a long day, well done :)
Your brother in law sounds like Jimmy. He’s constantly trying to get me to run a marathon with him! 😮💨😂
You can do it though. The conditions you had sound awful, so doing it in better weather will feel so much easier and more enjoyable. Hopefully August will provide some more favourable conditions. 👌🏻
Doing my first 100 with UK Cycling @ Newark in June. Its going to be a tough one for me . Up to 70 mile rides at the moment with an 80 planned for Bank Holiday Monday. I do have a 5 1/2 hr 5000ft gravel race under my belt this seasons so hopefully the training is on plan. I'm looking to get a 70m+ ride in every week now between now and June 22nd eeps!
Sounds like you’re properly on course to smash the 100 Darrin. A 5000ft gravel ride is a tough one to conquer too. Jimmy and I often say that gravel miles count three times that of road miles, as they’re so much harder, so chapeau on that!
Good look for the Newark ride though and the training beforehand. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway cheers - next time I might pick a hobby that doesnt need 4-5 hours at a time to do :p
@@darrin2382 where’s the fun in that! 🤪😂
Hi Peter, nice Video. I am also training for a London Paris ride early June so trying to fit the miles in.
Thanks so much, Mike, glad you enjoyed it.
When are you doing L2P and which route are you taking? I can’t wait to dock at Dieppe and get on the beautiful Avenue Verte again!
Good luck with your training too. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway I'm setting off from Big Ben 16:00 2.6.24, hopefully I'll reach Newhaven by 21.00 for some chips or something ready for the 23:00 depart. Out of interest did you lock the bike on the ferry?
I'm doing the most direct route between Dieppe and ths Eiffel
4pm is exactly the time Jimmy and I set off when we did the ride 2 years ago. Gives you a few hours to get out of London, stop around half way near Crawley Downs and then plenty of time to push on to the coast.
In terms of bike security, every time I’ve done it, I’ve put my bike in a support van, so it’s always been relatively safe. However, leaving it in the designated cycle area on the boat should be fine, as no one is allowed on the parking deck after the boat sets sail. Having a small cafe lock of some kind wouldn’t add too much weight though and might just add some peace of mind while you’re away from your wheels. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway Cheers Peter, thanks for the replies, and your insights / experience 👍
5:00 - ahhh Jimbo, Jimbo, Jimbo... You're a racing snake. Some of us are wider than we are tall (and we're tall believe me...) - tailwinds exist in the slightest of conditions, and also headwinds are no joke. I once looked round and found a pair of Transit tippers drafting me...
😂 I’ll pass that on to Jimmy!
And I’ll just say it one more time for the record… I HATE headwinds! 🤪
Enjoyed it.
Thanks so much Paul. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. ⭐️
Best of luck abstaining from alcohol in 2024. I haven't had a drink since the first COVID lockdown here in the USA in 2020. It gets easier over time.
Congrats on the sobriety. 💪🏻
I never really drunk that much anyway to be honest, but I just decided that if I wanted to get fitter and healthier, then it’s just not helpful. With the host of great alcohol free beers available now though, I really haven’t missed it.
hi Peter, you all ways make great videos... Nice ride... headwinds r awful... here at Greece headwinds and high temperatures makes our ride the worst thing anyone can experience... i remember on a 100 mile ride i drank 6.5 liters of ice water because by mile 70 i had strong headwind and 35 degree temperature... at some point i realized i was fighting with the garmin why am i low speed.. i was totally confused due to metal loss.. again well done for your nice ride.. please tell us what pills your friend is on..😊😅 🤣😜😋
Thanks so much, I really appreciate you saying that. 🌟
As for cycling in a 35˚c headwind, I shall no longer complain about our weather! 🤣 That sounds awful! Hope you don't have to endure too many rides like that.
As for Jimmy, he's just high on life! 😂
For a country so utterly obsessed with its crappy _moist_ weather, it's a shame you don't have better forecasting services and apps. 🤔🙃
😂. The forecasts aren’t actually that bad, it’s just that more often than not it’s not a great outlook!
That said, today it’s 20°c/68°f, which was very enjoyable.
Not sure where you are in the States though, but I have friends in TN and CA who’d be wearing their big coats in that weather! 😂
its ok , got to love life , great ride
Thanks so much and absolutely agree. Got to keep having adventures. 👌🏻⭐️
Great video, exceptional well edited, well done all.. Jimmy needs drug testing 😂
😂 Jimmy is constantly high on life.
The thing is, he is never not like that, in every aspect of his life. As a friend, a father and a teacher, he is the most enthusiastic and inspiring guy you could wish to know.
As ever though, I really appreciate your kind words, Alistair and for you consistently taking the time to watch my videos. ⭐️
@@petertreadway I love the content, keep up the great work
I thought the "Long" ride was 75 miles. Which ride was 100 miles?
The long ride was 72 miles but we rode to the start which was 29 miles away.
So you rode with Mary Poppins today, please make it stop. Only kidding nice video as usual.
There’s no stopping him once he gets going! 😂
And thanks as ever Richard. Much appreciated. 👌🏻
Took me 7hrs to do 100ml once then i done it with a group and i done 5 i think, still, a great achievement! 👌
5 hours is an incredible time, Lee. I could only dream of a 20mph average speed! In fact, 7 hours isn’t shabby either! Incredible achievements, both of them. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway Peter I assure you I only do upto 2hr now, mostly ½ hr a day sometime more on occasion.. ✌️ happy riding! Mr Karoke will encourage you along there! lol
