I'm thrilled evangelicals are preaching about the truths about the shroud. It's very scientific and Catholics have been taught this for years. There are books on it and fascinating talks on CZcams by physicists. Welcome to another miracle!

There is nothing to be thrilled. It is a shame that a "Harvest Bible Church" trusts pseudo-science Sindonology more than the Scripture. They should preach about 1 Corinthians 15. More proof for the resurrection is obviousely not necessary.
NO SHROUD mentioned in the gospels anyway! Read and trust the Bible.
I started to think about the Shroud of Turin some weeks ago because quite a lot of CZcams channels claim that it is 100 % sure the burial cloth of Jesus. So I did what Paul said:
1Thess 5,21 but test them all; hold on to what is good,
I searched for all the relevant "burial" verses in the gospels and I did some basic Greek word studies on BibleHub (free bible study webpage - select Interlinear):
Mk 15,46 And Joseph bought linen cloth [SINDONA, singular] and taking him down, wrapped [ENEILESEN] him in the linen cloth [SINDONI, singular] and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
Joh 19,39 Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight [about 32 kg].
Joh 19,40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound [EDESAN] it in linen cloths [OTHONIOIS, plural] with [META] the spices [AROMATON; about 32 kg], as is the burial custom of the Jews.
Mk 16,1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices [AROMATA] so that they might go to anoint [ALEIPSOSIN] Jesus.
      (1) SINDON > "a linen cloth" or "linen cloth"?
I quickly recognised that some Bible translations of SINDON are adding the indefinite article "a" although there is no one in the original Greek texts.
Is it mandatory to add "a" and is it also mandatory to understand "the" plus noun singular always as one piece only?
If SINDON must be understood as one large piece linen only (like the Shroud) - where the bandages (OTHONION) and the head cloth (SOUDARION) came from?
Why the gospel of John does not mention SINDON?
Answer: In the context SINDON must be translated/understood as a general material description "linen cloth" and it means all the needed burial cloth (bandages and head cloth). Joseph for sure knew what was needed according to the burial custom of (rich) Jews at that time.
And John didn't mention SINDON in his gospel because he also didn't mention the purchase of Joseph.
      (2) SPICES > stains/particles
Nicodemus organised a 32 kg sticky mixture of myrrh and aloes. Together with Joseph they wrapped/bound the body in linen (OTHONION) WITH the spices. They completed this work according to the burial custom of Jews at that time.
STURP (Shroud Of Turin Research Program) used many analytical methods and finally it was even emphasised that not any trace of spices/oils were detected!?
But there must be at least non degradable stains/particles of spices (like for blood)!?
And if in the meantime a failure of STURP was revealed - how the adding of spices worked with something like the Shroud of Turin?
Answer: OTHONION means bandages and the spices were put between the bandages when the body - EXCEPT THE HEAD - was wrapped/bound by Joseph and Nicodemus. This was done promptly after taking Jesus from the cross.
      (3) SOUDARION Shroud
If the complete body of Jesus was already wrapped/bound by Joseph and Nicodemus in something like the Shroud - why there was a need to add a head cloth (SOUDARION)? Also Lazarus wore a head cloth when coming out the tomb himself (Joh 11,44). And despite the burial cloth Lazarus was able to stand up and to go!
Answer: The SOUDARION was added also promply to cover the head and it remained there until the resurrection.
      (4) WOMEN > anointing
Jesus was transported to the nearby rock-tomb and was laid in there. Some of the women observed this and nothing else was done in the tomb. After Sabbath the women came with the intention to anoint Jesus.
How this worked if the body was completely wrapped/bound in something like the Shroud with the spices?
To get access at least to his head they would have had to remove/destroy the wrapping and uncovering a naked man underneath!?
Answer: The women came after Sabbath with the intention to anoint Jesus' head (hair/face). This was an act of honour that could have been done easily by removing/readding the head cloth (SOUDARION). But it would have been impossible and illogic with something like the Shroud of Turin.
So there is no need to trust a still doubtful and controversial relic like the Shroud of Turin to be the authentic burial cloth of Jesus:
Joh 20,29 Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’

I my neck of the woods, the Catholic Church ignores the Shroud. I could not persuade Fr. Ken to publicly display a picture of the relic. When his assistant music minister did display a picture that could be seen through her office window, Fr. Ken arranged for her transfer. It is deplorable, IMO.

Joseph of Arimathea bought all the needed linen cloth (SINDON). That means bandages (OTHONION) and the head cloth (SOUDARION). Nicodemus organised about 32 kg spices. That means a sticky mixture of myrrh and aloes. Jesus was taken from the cross and maybe he was also washed. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
5and that He appeared to Cephasa and then to the Twelve.
6After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
7Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth.

Not much doubt as to your Shroud ignorance. 1. 'And Joseph bought a linen *shroud,* and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen *shroud* [Mark 15:46] 2. 'And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen *shroud'* [Matthew 27:59] 3. 'Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen *shroud'* [Luke 23:53] Each of the synoptic Gospels mention Joseph of Arimathea making use of a single linen cloth to wrap the body of Jesus for burial. The Word 'Sindon' (singular noun ) means 'A clean sheet' and the Word 'Othonion' (plural noun) means 'bandages'. Luke uses the same plural noun (Othonion), “funeral linens,” in his account of the Resurrection (Luke 24: 12) after earlier speaking of the singular burial cloth (Sindon) or *shroud* (Luke 23 :53) . This plural noun mentioned in (Luke 24: 12) is intended to include all the funeral elements such as : 1) A long *shroud( - It's used to wrap whole body 2)A face cloth or 'Soudarion' - It's not used to wrap whole head but to wipe the perspiration from one’s face. The Greek word 'Soudarion' was derived from a Latin word for “sweat.” 3)A few stripes of linen - They help to tie a shroud around a body The Fourth Gospel never mentions such a 'Sindon'. Instead, John writes of Joseph and Nicodemus “binding the body of Jesus in strips of linen” The verb 'Binding' ( δέω) is frequently found in the context of binding a prisoner with chains. (Mark 5.3; 6.17; Acts 12.6; 21.33) John uses the same verb in Revelation for the 'binding' of the dragon (Rev 20: 2)

beverlyhurd8556 claims that Jesus was wrapped in something like the Shroud but she and other Shroud apostels/disciples cannot give any biblical evidence.
I have watched video simulations of the desired Shroud wrapping. They all did it without using the 32 kg spices (mixture of myrrh and aloe). But those spices were added for sure when wrapping the body with bandages (othonion) and finally they added the head cloth (soudarion). ONLY THEN they laid Jesus into the rock-tomb:
Joh 19,39 Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight [about 32 kg].
Joh 19,40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound [EDESAN] it in linen cloths [OTHONIOIS, plural] with [META] the spices [AROMATON; about 32 kg], as is the burial custom of the Jews.
Not any word in the gospels that there was a lack of time and that the head cloth was added on the cross and removed to wrap the body in something like the Shroud.
Not any word in the gospels that the women had to finish the "spicing". They intended to anoint Jesus and this is something completely different. Spices are added to suspress the smell of decay. Anointing is always done with oils/perfumes.
The Greek word for "spices" has different meanings and the context is decisive:
      Thayer's Greek Lexicon
      STRONGS NT 759: ἄρωμα
ἄρωμα, ἀρώματος, τό (from ἈΡΩ to prepare, whence ἀρτύω to season; (others connect it with the root ar (ἀρόω), to plow (cf. Genesis 27:27); others besides)), spice, perfume: Mark 16:1; Luke 23:56; Luke 24:1; John 19:40. (2 Kings 20:13; Esther 2:12; Song of Solomon 4:10, 16. (Hippocrates), Xenophon, Theophrastus, and subsequent writings.)
So each intelligent person with a little bit common sense and trust in the Scripture must reject the Shroud.

@@wipo3654 Still making a fool of yourself as always. It *is* the authentic burial cloth of Jesus from about 33 AD. Note that several of the above items are inconsistent with the Shroud being a forgery from the Middle Ages. A forger would not have known or been able to:
      · Place invisible serum rings around the blood exudate of the scourge marks.
      · Add pollen to the Shroud that is unique to the Jerusalem area.
      · Add pollen around the head that is from a plant with long thorns.
      · Put a microscopic amount of dirt in abrasions on the nose and one knee.
      · Put bilirubin and nanoparticles of creatinine and ferritin into the blood, indicating torture
. · Locate the nails in the wrists with the thumbs folded under, contrary to paintings from the Middle Ages
. · Put microscopic chips of limestone into dirt near the feet that match Jerusalem limestone
. · Use a stitch unique to the first century to sew the three-inch wide side strip to the main shroud
. · Create a negative image that contains 3D information related to the body-to-cloth distance in the image
. · Create an image of a crucified man on the Shroud based on only the top one or two layers of fibers being discolored, and only the outer 0.2 microns of the 15 to 20-micron fiber diameter being discolored.
      · Create an image of a crucified man on the Shroud based on a change in the electron bonding of the carbon atoms that were already in the cellulose molecules.
Given these facts, no normal brained person anywhere is going to call the Holy Shroud a fake. You are a fine example of this.

I've worked in a hospital lab for 40 years. If the sample for the C14 dating is flawed the result is flawed. Example: If an ER nurse draws blood in a syringe and lets the blood clot the platelet count will go from a normal of around 300 down to less than 10. The patient was normal and the Hematology instrument was normal but the sample was flawed. The sample of the shroud that was used in 1988 for the C14 dating was not representative of the original shroud linen because of the location it was obtained. The other evidence according to standard scientific practice suggests the shroud is the burial cloth of Jesus.

54:40 - The side wound has an invisible blood serum retraction ring, so this is an incorrect observation that the serum ring doesn't appear because he was dead. The retraction rings appear because the blood is whole blood, meaning it wasn't painted on but rather came directly out of the body to include the full parts of the blood.

After 5 years of exhaustive research and using my code-breaking skills that I learned along the way during my career as a government investigator, I wrote a book called, Shroud Codes in the Bible. It was based on my findings that the New Testament did, ion fact, contain many, many clues and hints about the Shroud in an embedded form which only a codebreaker could decipher and explain.
My results were not embraced by the Shroud 'community' that clique of people who think of themselves as being shroud experts who give lectures about the subject. I knew in advance they would accept my findings because I was not a part of their clique and they were close-minded. And yet all they do every so often is appear at shroud conventions with the same old tired information about the shroud, with nothing new to offer the public. Well, my book has plenty to offer the public in a new and enlightening way about the Shroud of Turin.

So many in both denominations have scruples as if we are bound by the old covenant and not free in the new!
Some Protestants believe an image of Christ or even a movie on Him is idolatrous…. I always say if God in Christ would leave us a selfie in the Shroud, I think it’s alright to depict the Man Christ Jesus!
Barry Schwartz says the Shroud is not a graven or man made image and so it doesn’t even fall under the category.
I believe God desired this image of His Son for our day…. It’s a powerful witness and believing God is or that His Son is historical is not faith. Faith is trusting Gods word and promise along with an ongoing relationship once United with Him.
The Shroud is an evidence of His suffering, death and resurrection… and that’s wonderful news for those hearts willing to accept His sacrifice on our behalf.

The image itself is a severe reason to doubt. Andrew Dalton, one of the main Shroud apostles, cleary says that the shading depends on the distance between body and linen but he doesn't explain ...
    # There is no shading of the bodys' sides and the top of the head?
    # Also the contact-distance pattern of the backside doesn't correspond the forensic pattern of a dead body lying e.g. on a plate.
    # Folds, overlappings and wavy areas are inevitable. This must be visible on the Shrouds' image, but there is nothing like that.
    # And there is not any image distortion.
Overall there are 5 severe biblical reasons to doubt. Videos like this ignore the Scripture because of the fascination for the image = icon > idol > Shroud obsession.
I cannot prove all the pseudo-scientific Shroud arguments but everybody can easily "ask" the Scripture. I did and the result is a video presentation on my channel. Click icon W to the left.

The Shroud of Turin has been studied *tens of thousands of hours* by many dozens of scientists and doctors they have proven *100%* that it contained the body of a beaten, scourged, crucified man that was wearing a crown of thorns while on the cross and that it dates back to Biblical times. They cannot say 100% that it wrapped the body of Jesus Christ but no one with at least half a brain is going to think that it contained anyone other than him.

@dulls8475 You don't even believe the Bible. Christianity is the Burger King if religion. Have it your way
The Bible debunks itself and when science debunks anything from the Bible, Christians say that part wasn't supposed to be taken literally.
The Bible says space is water and that there is a dome over the Earth called the firmament. That has been debunked. Jesus said the mustard seed was the smallest seed which isn't true. I could go on and on...
It's all fake. And the Bible is pro slavery.. There are clear as day instructions on how to own slaves in the Bible. On top of all the genocide.. The god of the Bible is petty and childlike.. Throws tantrums and wipes people out.. He is straight up incompetent in everything he does and we take the blame and punishment.

So curious, why as an unbeliever are you watching this? Deep within you know JESUS is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. The Almighty. The Yes and Amen. You reason intellectually, and this is a heart issue. Allow your heart to believe. When you were a child you understood this.

@janjohnson6602 because I did my research and like most logical thinking people.. I came to the conclusion that it's fake.
The Bible says there is a dome over the Earth called the firmament. This isn't allegorical or metaphorical. The Bible says this firmament covers the Earth and that our sun and moon is under the firmament. The Bible says space is water and that there are windows in the dome that let's water in aka rain.. How does God create the universe and don't know how it works
Don't tell me what I believe because deep down I think the majority of Christians aren't believers.. Your pastors live nothing like Jesus.. They don't believe the Bible either..
The Bible is also pro slavery and there are precise instructions on how to own people in the Bible..
It's all fake and you know it.. Christianity is the Burger King of religions.. Have everything your way.. That explains the bazillion different denominations..
Go watch Tovia Singer and learn something... He crushes the top Christian scholars and professors in debates. He's a rabbi.. Undefeated.. He can point out all the mistranslations, added verses, verses taken away, that give divinity to Jesus..
Christianity was a religion created by Rome to usurp Judaism which is also fake and based on Sumarian myths and legends..

@@MikesChannel1108 If you really are stupid enough to believe the Shroud is a fake, and obviously you are, then you must explain how whoever fabricated it must have:
      1. Known the precise methods of crucifixion in the first century.
      2. Be proficient enough in over 100 scientific disciplines and also collectively outweigh the intelligence of the people who performed hundreds and hundreds of tests on the Shroud and who are not finding any indications of a forgery.
      3. Possessed the medical knowledge of a modern expert surgeon.
      4. Utilized an art process unknown to any great master, never duplicated before or since.
      5. Be able to foresee and approximate principles of photographic negativity that would not be discovered for centuries.
      6. Imported a piece of old cloth of Middle Eastern manufacture.
      7. Used a coloring agent which would be unaffected by intense heat.
      8. Be able to incorporate in his work details (that have only recently been discovered), that the human eye cannot see and that are visible only with the most advanced computer-scanning devices.
      9. Be able to reproduce flawlessly, on a nearly flat linen surface, in a single color, undistorted 3-D characteristics of a human body in a 'negative format' on the tops of the threads, while conversely showing the 'blood' as positive and soaking all the way through.
      10. Get somewhere the blood of a tortured man and apply it before creating the image.
      11. Get limestone from Jerusalem, and pollen particles from the middle east, in special from plants with thorns, that flourish only between March and April.
Oh, and you misspelled 'illogical thinking'. You might want to go back and correct that.

They have _proven_ was that it contained a body that was beaten like Jesus was, scourged like Jesus was, was crucified like Jesus was AND wore a cap of thorns (only Jesus in recorded history was crucified wearing one of those) like Jesus was. Mark 15:46 ESV
" And Joseph bought a linen shroud"
Many people think that the quoted translation is the only correct one. But there is no "a" in the original Greek text of the above quoted verse part (just 3 words) and in all regarding gospel verses:
    2532 [e]
    Kai
    Καὶ
    And
    Conj
    59 [e]

    V-APA-NMS
    4616 [e]
    sindona
    σινδόνα ,
    a? linen cloth

Why "a linen shroud" should be for sure the correct translation? There is not any evidence here, neither written nor in related videos.
    English Standard Version
And Joseph bought A LINEN SHROUD [sindona], and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud [tē sindoni] and …

Then he [Joseph of Arimathea] bought FINE LINEN [sindona], took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen [tē sindoni].
    Berean Literal Bible
And having bought A LINEN CLOTH [sindona], having taken Him down, he wrapped Him in the linen cloth [tē sindoni] and …
And if Joseph only would have bough something like the Shroud - from where they got the bandages and head cloth? Sindon must be translated/understood as a general material description and e.g. NKJV is linguistically/logically correct.

1988 carbon dating raw data wouldn’t be released for 30 years for a reason, it was so inconsistent from the three labs it was obviously contaminated and never should have reached their conclusion!
The Sturp scientist Ray Rogers found 16th century cotton woven into the pure linen and even dyed with a gum resin to match the color of the much older shroud. The only one sample cut from the corner is proven not part of the original cloth!
