had the eexact same experience - bought brand new - about a half dozen uses and the cord tore... then, no warranty, shop fee of $60 bucks..... nah, i watched another video (much better in fact) and did it on the kitchen counter in 10 minutes retying the same cord.... be safe

I guess I could make $27.50 for 10 mins worth of mindless work, $165 an hour is not bad :) I honestly think there might be a business model here.
