This has happened before but this time I was actually in a bad place and thanks to you it worked I was driving down the road and when I went to change lanes it jumped from 2 H to 4H I did it last nite but when I backed up it went off with a slam usually I go to a grassy spot and drive in 4H and it seems to keep I at bay some one said it would fix the problem but after listening to u and I did have to do it 3xs I’m very great full I put a new transmitió. In it and new water pump and she uses little oil but is a great truck im in the process of fixing it up everyone says im wasting my money get a new one I haven’t had a car payment since 2015 and the things I’m fixing my grandson and I do anyway thank u sooo much 1:09

2019 silverado 6.2, 73,000 miles just had #5 intake lifter fail and damage the camshaft also. Bought this truck new, 1st oil change was at 1200 miles at the dealership after that ive changed at 5000 miles with mobile 1 0-20 oil. Went on vacation 1500 mile round trip changed the oil before we left, and started hearing a tick 500 miles into our trip when stopping for gas. could only hear it at low throttle 5-40mph but it was quiet at idle, and on the highway. got home and it was getting louder. stopped driving it and tore it apart. All of the lifters i pulled out looked good none were collapsed, when i removed the cam i found cylinder 5 intake lobe had a big damage spot on it where the lifter was hitting, i went back and double checked that lifter and it visually looks good. The lifter must have popped back out when i was disassembling the engine and i stopped early enough it hadn't started damaging the lifter yet. I am now doing a full delete kit, to remove this faulty system. the truck has been flawless up until this point. No misfire, no engine codes, smooth idle. Stop driving and get it looked at if you start hearing the dreaded lifter tap before you get a lot of metal in the oil system

The o-ring on the oil pan plug can be re used up to 5 times after that probably go ahead and replace it.

In my 2024 it appears that the option of overwrite or not has been changed. I have not do so yet but I'm guess it just assumes overwrite mode.

I was going to buy a Yukon until I found out about this. Thanks for a great video helping me understand this. I have considered buying a Duramax to avoid this. But after researching diesels I have found that they have their own problems too. Stalling, emissions, DEF etc. So I am really left not knowing what to do. I’m 73 and I just want a big SUV. I heard you say that you buy extended warranties from GMC. My question is do these warranties cover the lifter failure? Thanks

Chevy Silverado 1500 started at 40k miles . Dealership will cover everything and replace the vacuum pump. No questions ask.

Why didn’t GM make it programmable from the software settings? Their Engineers never heard of the KISS principle.

My old 2009 Silverado had a lifter failure a few years ago. A local mechanic in my town told me I needed a new engine for $10k. Thankfully, I have a good friend with a shop about an hour away. He told me he could replace the bad lifters for $1400. I limped my truck up there and he replaced them. Ran fine ever since!

had the eexact same experience - bought brand new - about a half dozen uses and the cord tore... then, no warranty, shop fee of $60 bucks..... nah, i watched another video (much better in fact) and did it on the kitchen counter in 10 minutes retying the same cord.... be safe

Deactivate AFM and your lifters will never fail ( firmware and hardware). after I had to change one lifter on my Chevy avalanche 2008, I deactivated the damn thing

This has been a problem since it was introduced in 2005. 2007+ GM trucks. GM knows it’s a poor design yet they won’t fix it

Find a mechanic that works out of his garage and let him disable it through the computer system. A lot less hassle.

Another reason not to buy a new car. They are trying to wear out engine prematurely

Yes it’s annoying. I’m not sure of other makes but my 2017 Toyota Highlander has a button to turn the stop start off. Ya ya you have to push that button every time after you have turned the vehicle off because it “ defaults “ to the auto start stop. Push the button after you start 5he vehicle, it takes les# than 1 second. Or…… on my Highlander anyways, if you don’t come steaming up to a red light or stop sign and then get hard on the brakes without backing off a bit on the brake pressure just as the vehicle comes to a comes to a complete stop the “ feature doesn’t even engage. I drive my vehicle daily in stop and go traffic and the auto stop doesn’t engage at all and l’ve never push the button to turn the auto stop start off. In fact the info screen always warns me that the system won’t activate unless I push hard on the brakes. I never roll a stop sign, my wheels don’t move for at least 3 seconds after a complete stop. Quit your whining! Our Rav 4 hybrid does go into stop start mode but that’s not even noticeable because it is so seamless and you drive from a stop up to about 10 mph on the electric motors, then ga# kicks in and you can’t even tell.

I own a 2013 and a 2015 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 engines both broken in my driveway. The 2013 has a little over 130,000 and the 2015 has only 37,000 miles, seems to me that there is thousands of vehicles with lifters problems and GM it’s not doing anything about it, me personally I will never buy another GM Vehicle in my life and will talk to all my family and friends about it so they don’t get stuck with the same problem.

2021 3500 HD 4wd Denali and both front sides are out at 39k miles. Just found out they are on national back order. Even aftermarket hub assemblies are on back order so good luck with these everyone. Pretty disappointed of such an early failure on a truck that is driven like a baby. These should last easily 100k 🤬

2022 GMC sierra 15 At4 Limited owner here. Truck has 74,000 miles. While driving down the interstate,motor locked up. towed to dealership. said that a bearing had spun. handed me a $13,000 invoice for a motor replacement. The best part about this story is that the random dealership I was towed to (was out of town) had three identical trucks in the service department parking lot with the exact same problem ranging from 20,000 miles to 80,000 miles. after some back-and-forth with GM customer service they ended up giving me $5000 towards the engine replacement due to it being out of its 60,000 mile warranty, the rest of the 13k was on me. I was told by the dealership that GM is aware of the issue with this specific motor and are actively working on a solution to fix the issue. GM customer service told me that the replacement motor that was installed was exactly the same as the failed engine. They couldn’t even specifically tell me what had failed. Nor could they reassure me that the same thing would not happen to this new engine. They gave me a 100,000 mile/five year warranty (beyond greatful for that) Took about two weeks from the time of ordering engine to driving off the lot.

Let’s not forget the additional $2.00 per gallon gas tax and $.30 per mile charge in Communist CA. Not to mention electronic tax and tire disposal tax and $.10 per bag at stores and $.05 for every can, bottle or whatever else the P.O.S politicians can charge us for.

WOW! I never thought that pushing a button every time you get in your vehicle was such a labor intensive procedure. I cannot imagine what kind of severe mental anguish you must go through to have to also turn an ignition key or push a "Start" button or put on a seatbelt. I can almost feel the horror of you having to manually eat dinner with your hands or take a daily shower. What is the world coming to. This definitely must be an American.

The lighted emblem that is showing on the ground behind the car is showing you were to put your foot to do the foot open trick. You were mistaken as they are equipped with it and that is to aid you in finding the spot
