    GUYS WE NOW HAVE ONLINE TRAINING! Check out the link below if you want to find out more about our online training!

    Second Event vlog of 2023 and first event of the season with Max and Kato because of so many cancellations because of the English weather!
    It wasn’t a great first event! With the house we have been so so busy and I just felt like I hadn’t had another training leading up to the event and some other personal issues and my head just wasn’t in the right place. So I ended up withdrawing Max from the XC.
    Kato and I had a brilliant event though and it was so good being back out on the xc course with him and very very excited for the rest of the 2023 season!
    Thanks so much for all your support guys and for watching the vlogs we really appreciate it! Hope you guys enjoy the vlog!

    You're endearing quality is your honesty Ashley. All the things you are dealing with right now, it's amazing you went to the event, so don't beat yourself up. Most people would have cancelled the video. You didn't. That's admirable. You could have done the cross country with Max risking a bad experience for you or him or both, so I think you did the right thing by withdrawing this time but you need to forgive yourself. You picked yourself up, did a super dressage with Kato, ok show jumping he had those poles down but cross country he was really good. So glad you didn't sell him. You and Max will get there, I'm sure.

    @suec6521 Před rokem +2

    Ashley, no need to apologise for assessing risk and deciding to cancel a run. You are incredibly dedicated and brave to master three disciplines and do them all very well on 3 different horses. When I see you flying over those XC jumps so confidently I am awe struck. I prepared my horse for eventing but during training something I asked of her caused her to pull a ligament. After that she was spelled for a year and no jumping again. In a way I was relieved because you have to be super brave to tackle XC. Life also intrudes when you have a partner, a house to renovate and work to earn a living. Horses are sooo expensive.

    Kato has matured so much in his dressage and he loves his jumping, shame about the poles but first time out is always questions and he answered lots of them, Max was probably shell shocked, and as he doesn't usually have poles it probably put his mind in doubt, don't worry about it they will come out next time and you will have bigger smiles, hope your dad is improving, we need him lol 😂 xx

    Well done all around, esp. considering the whirlwind your life has been. Great to see your mum looking so perky, & I hope your dad can get some relief for his back. I loved seeing you cuddle with Max while you explained the difficulty & why you withdrew, he is a teddy bear & he'll get his mojo back. Kato's dressage was an absolute cracker (is that what you Brits say?) & he was amazing on XC, some fine effort there. This might be a bit of a rebuilding year, what with all you've had on your plate, but you've got a super string of ponies there, don't forget to have fun!

    Hi I’m still learning about horses so I was wondering why there is a difference in the way Max and Kato jump. Is it because of the breeding? Maximus has a rounder jump and elongates his back legs as he goes over whilst Kato jumps flatter and immediately folds his back legs which seem to be taking down some of the bars. Is this a thoroughbred characteristic? I’d love to learn more, thank you in advance for the reponses :)

    Shame about Max, but glad Kato got a good round. It's not easy when there are so many other things in life that happen at the same time.
    You English vloggers that are sponsored by yfood has by now made me vow to never ever touch the stuff as I am so sick of seeing it in videos everywhere. I think it is the Scandinavian stubbornness that comes out. If someone push something, I dig my heels in.😆I'd much rather have some real food, even if it just a few mouthfuls, even out competing.

  • @lisawhittaker5680
    @lisawhittaker5680 Před rokem +2

    I asked another youtuber, who gave me an answer that makes no sense so I'll ask you. Why do you all only mount with a leg up or block, particularly when those around aren't capable of doing it? Why don't any of you mount from the ground? I rode a 17 almost 18 hh gelding, I'm only short, and always mounted from the ground. I also have rods in my back after spinal surgery. The only time I used a block was the first couple of months after that. It's a genuine question. I wonder what happens if you come off? Does someone run out with a step? Do you ever practice mounting from the ground? A horse needs the practice as well to stand stillish while you get on. Not criticism just a question.
    Shame about the jumping round, don't think Kato, as much as I like him, is as careful with his hind feet as your others. I love Max's technique. I used to ride a little buckskin pony, many years ago, who really tucked her back feet up and threw her tail up as she jumped. Was hilarious, higher the jump the higher went the tail until it was almost over her back. Never hit a jump with her back feet though.
    This is really the start of the season after all the cancellations, so cut yourself some slack. As you said, the joy came back during the cross country on Kato so build on that. The house is done so now you've got time.
    Looking forward to the next video.

    • @hannahlongman9768
      @hannahlongman9768 Před rokem +1

      Mounting from the ground is very bad for their backs, as you put all your weight onto one side, it also can move the saddle over to one side so unless in an emergency it’s much better to get on from a block or leg up

    • @lisawhittaker5680
      @lisawhittaker5680 Před rokem

      @@hannahlongman9768 if the girth is cinched properly the saddle does not move anymore than holding onto the saddle getting a leg up where they still put pressure on it. As for weight being on one side , the same getting a leg up if you notice, not as much but still there, so an irrelevant reason. Then there is the issue with, particularly a leg up of dropping, uncontrolled, onto their backs which would create a bigger problem in my vets opinion. Do you ever practice on your horse? In case of emergency? As we know they are creatures of habit and suddenly mounting from the ground could be upsetting and become impossible. It also pays for the rider to practice in order to make a very smooth, one motion mount. If there are any real issues with ground mounting I think this is the main one, people who cannot get on in one motion , pushing themselves up from the ground rather than pulling themselves up or scrabbling. Mainly due to poor technique or poor fitness. Less dangerous than relying on a step or block if your horse doesn't stand still or rushes off.

    • @ashleyharrisoneventing
      @ashleyharrisoneventing  Před rokem

      I think you must be very agile 👍most people haven’t got the strength or flexibility 🤣

    • @margauxnodvin7478
      @margauxnodvin7478 Před rokem

      @@lisawhittaker5680 sure, the saddle doesn’t move, but it’s still putting a LOT of pressure on that side of the horse’s back, where the saddle is pushing against the withers on the off side while you’re mounting from the near side. (Unless you’re like 50 lbs, then it’s not going to be a huge issue). It’s great to be able to do in case of emergency, but I would never make it a regular practice for my horse’s sake. All of my horses are tall, and I always use a mounting block. It’s much easier on the horse’s back to not be pulling yourself up all the way from the ground, and it makes it quite easy to swing a leg over and GENTLY lower yourself on to the horse’s back. There have been times at shows I’ve not had a mounting block and had to get a leg up, but I never just threw all of my weight on to my horse’s back then either. If you know how to get a leg up properly, there is no “flopping”. Also, most riders aren’t flexible or strong enough to mount large horses from the ground. When I was in my 20’s and going to the gym AND riding multiple horses every day, I could mount my 17.2 h horse from the ground if I had to if I put him slightly downhill from me. But at 46 years old, those days are behind me! 😂 It’s best for my body and the horses’ to use a mounting block.

    • @margauxnodvin7478
      @margauxnodvin7478 Před rokem

      @@lisawhittaker5680 also, if your horse doesn’t stand still or rushes off, it’s actually quicker and easier to just step on quickly with a mounting block, rather than try to jump along with one foot in the stirrup and one on the ground if you’re trying to mount from the ground 😂. Even if you’re agile enough to mount from the ground (and don’t care about the extra pressure you’re putting on one side of your horse’s back, particularly the wither area), it’s EXTRA difficult to make a smooth and correct mount on to your horse when it’s walking or rushing away! Then you doing EXTRA pulling on one side of its back! Once I get one foot in the stirrup from a mounting block, I’m nimble enough to be able to swing my leg over the horse’s back even if it takes off, and still be able to lower myself gently into the saddle 🤷🏻‍♀️
