love it, my white dove will be 23 febuary 2023. I may try this he used to play alot but slowed down a bit now. Loves his millet sprays and butter lettuce bottom part, keeps him hydrated. I also moved the seed cup to the area he stays most now.. he is moving less but still laughs and coo's
I had one once with scissor beak. After rehabbed her she got out of a window and did not return. Without special feeding she probably starved to death. We did give her around 10 months of extended life though.
Aww I'm so sorry :( Petey has calcium deficiency and he was refusing to eat his calcium grit at the time. I had to switch to calcium powder. I put it in his water bowl 2-3 times a week, and his problem went away (see my recent videos of him). I also give Petey and Ernie special birdseed coated with lots of different vitamins and minerals. It's more pricey than regular dove food, but worth it.
Petey is still super cute! I thought he was gonna swallow the marbles for a second there! I also noticed Petey's beak has become overgrown. 😯 Does he have a cuttlebone to nibble at or see a vet? My dove hasn't had any problems with his beak, but is there a way to treat something like that just in case? I think it interferes with their eating if I remember correctly...
You can trim the overgrown edges yes. Pigeon and doves need to peck at something hard from time to time to keep that beak in shape, but they typically won't peck at those cuttlebones for parrots, there are grit stones though. It's simply grit (which EVERY dove/pigeons has to eat) compacted into a stone. This helps their beak from overgrowing. Mineral and vitamin deficiency can also make this happen. Especially calcium and vitamin D. Vitamin D is especially good to monitor in "inside" birds because it can only be metabolized with direct sunrays exposure. So make sure your birds get direct sunlight🕊️🌞

That would be fun to do if I lived somewhere else. I have a lot of hawks and eagles in my yard. I live right next to a forest and meadow. I also live near a huge river (where many eagles tend to live).
They can cost anywhere from about $30 to $150 USD depending on their sex and age, and whether they’re bought from a farm, pet store or breeder. Sorry for your loss 😢 May your dove Rest In Peace ❤️
