It is always so wonderful to take a trip through and over the tree tops and down to the homestead, as though riding on a magic carpet. And, so beautiful with Old Winter's coat on the ground and you all carrying on with your chores. Ivar is learning well how to tend to the flock! He'll be a huge help in few years! We are learning as well how to keep a small farm. It is so good to see your videos each time you post! Thank you!

I sometimes find myself holding my breath as I watch your fly over the meadows, streams and forests enveloped in snow. And then I think to myself of the times I had with my parents on our farm and the hard work it involved but we were HAPPY then. We also raised sheep( Suffolk ) . We didn't feel like were were missing out on anything because it just wasn't there to obsess about. All the technological advances we have made and yet more and more people are so unhappy, unfullfilled and lost and lonely. It is my dream to one day go back to living a more simpler life without so much techno garbage and to go back to connecting with nature and living a mindful and meaningful life. You guys make me think that me and my bf can one day do that so don't ever stop your videos. Keep up with your dreams and even though there are setbacks just keep moving forward. You are so inspiring to so many people :)

Don't dream about "one day". See how you can put into reality today. You don't need to move to off grid log cabin to live this way. You can move away from techno right now by moving away from smartphone into the old type phone for example. Reclaiming lost skills like map reading, growing your own food, building fires, learning to forage, mending clothes.

The breeding aprons can help but not foolproof. We had our bucks in with does and only one doe was impregnated while aprons used. Must be measured accurately and secured enough they can get off.

Yep too much technology creates more hunger for connection with the natural world and with other humans, thus technology is leaving people more and more empty in their soul, until they discover that we can't really thrive without nature and nurture.

I feel sorry for you that you've only just been able to understand young Ivar's speech. I have comprehended it for ages as most on here have I believe. Not sure what is your problem but would have liked you to keep it to yourself. It is not shared with any positive lean on it. The lack of understanding is your problem not theirs. Please be mindful of what you share and why you share it. This family works incredibly hard and sincerely to being to us a slice of their very hard life. Yes they've chosen this lifestyle, but that doesn't make it any less arduous and even more so to convert their native tongue into a language most can understand. That Ivar is only 2 and speaks so clearly and with understanding of the concept he's portraying is very advanced for his age. So please , think before you write in future and that goes for all channels you interact on, thankyou.

We made a central pen with gates to all the pens and a Very High and strong fence on the central pen and because the central pen touched all the others, it was easier to sort the herd without them wanting to follow, the separated ones, the hard part is sorting, but a carrot or treat helps a lot!!! We also have goats and they ALL have collars... a big help we also try to walk them too which makes them easier to catch, having constant contact. your Red bowls seem to also help a lot...

I totally agree with the difference in farm raised meat !! I was born and raised on dairy sheep pigs and all our meat was home grown & butchered. How I yearn for such beautiful meat again instead of this store bought stuff !!!
I thank God I at least had the good clean pure farm meat as a child and up to my early 20s !!!! Now nearly 70 I miss that yummy meat.
Moving the sheep instead of carrying them, Try making a pen with your wire fencing and some wooden batons /posts , just enough for 2 sheep to walk side by side . Have one person at front with a post in each hand and one doing the same at the rear. If you keep them fairly tightly together they should all move in unison and not be able to get much speed up. If you have a food dish up front they can see and will follow if necessary. I'd try without food. Have a couple of batons along each side to stop them pressing on the wire and escaping. This method should work while walking on that path you had cleared and packed down. It's much like using sheep dogs but a fence enclosure instead. It's a good way to train them to move around your paddocks. You don't want big heavy posts at front and back as you must carry the posts in your outstretched arms. I hope this will make moving the young ewes at least easier than having to carry every one !!!!!!. Much love and blessings from Ipswich Queensland Australia from my heart to yours. 🤗💞🙏✌️👍👋👏

A temporary solution might be for you to make a small wooden cage, or get a cheap folding dog cage, that will fit in the back of your wagon. So, instead of carrying them in your arms you can at least utilize your wagon and carry them that way. Then just pop the cage out of the wagon and store it away somewhere for next time. Just a low tech idea! Cheers from Maine!

@@Talasbuan Even one sheep at a time in The hay wagon would help I would think. A cage trailer towed by your car perhaps if it can manage the snow without a road. Do you have a tractor? I can't recall. I do watch a lot of farming channels as that's how I was raised and worked on farms. Sheep were always yhe dumbest animals. They'd always be as far away from the gate as possible. To hay feed in the snow was very tiring carrying bales of hay thru knee deep snow that the tractor couldn't pass thru.
A note here, back in my parents early days of farming and starting a family of 7 , they only had an old model T and the pig was transported in wherevthe back seat was removed. That was in 1955 you're dpungvthe same sort of thing ...some things don't change much LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thank you very much for another brilliant episode! When you started carrying the sheep I thought, "Mathias needs to find a better way to move the sheep". 5 minutes later you said it! I suggest you buy some rope and make a few halters, one halter for each lead rope. If you can lead one with a rope and a small bucket of grain or lucerne, the others might follow. Also, if you start teaching Ivar to lead some of the lambs one at a time on a halter, while the lambs are still young they will be used to being lead by the time they are older. Keep trying to find ways to make your life easier now, you body will thank you for it when you are much older. Keep up the great work! Love to you all from Australia! 😍

Here in the UK, there are always trained sheepdogs for sale for all different reasons...for example, an older dog that may now benefit from less work than with a pro shepherd or larger scale sheep farmer and be ideal for the smaller amount of work you'd need one for. Maybe something to look into if you don't want to train one up yourself or not sure how? Taking one of mine sheep training tomorrow....we just love it as a pastime. I don't get to do it often because there's nowhere close enough to me and it's always going to be a bit of a drive just to train.

Have a look for some New Zealand style sheep yards, or portable sheep yards. You can find some inspiration to build your own versions. You can do it in such a way that it is not so large and mostly focused on the gully separation gates, and just extend the individual yards in whatever way you like with your portable fencing. Can easily be built in a day or two with a couple of people. And self milled timber or tree rounds if you desire.

We always kept the rams in a separate small building and paddock except for breeding period. Before 3 months old the male lambs were pulled for future meat.

This was another amazingly beautiful work of art and way better than an action movie! Rams running towards the ladies 😅❤
I know it’s a hard life and hard work but I tear up with the beauty, serenity, quietness, the commitment to the animals and family life, the laying in the snow, the smiles…
You are very special people living a very special, meaningful life

"Jag gillar era videos mycket. Ert land och er vardag inom jordbruk och fåruppfödning intresserar mig mycket. Jag förstår att det är ett svårt liv till viss del, men era videos förmedlar intrycket att ni förstår naturens cykler och integrerar er med dess visdom på ett avundsvärt sätt som bara jordbrukare kan. En stor kram från Brasilien
