Mei Xiang is a great mom in the past 20 years and she gave birth to a baby in this year but her mental state is really not well after delivery until today. No love is greater than maternal love even just animals.
Although Mei Xiang is elder but she always does her best to entertain everyone in the Smithsonian's national zoo , doesn't it? I never saw any zookeeper to take special care for her and only stole her child for medical exam when she ate meals. She fears losing her child after she lost Bei Bei. Smithsonian's national zoo often gave used cardboard boxes and baskets dipped in honey for Mei Xiang to lick and no other nutritious food like other zookeepers of other countries give apples, carrots and wowo tou for giant pandas every day.
In the zoos of other coutries, the panda zookeepers would give the baby panda human care to make mom panda relax and eat delicious food but SNZ never did . Mei Xiang sometimes makes abnormal sounds loudly we all worried about her but SNZ ignored it. Every baby panda depend on mother to survive but humen in SNZ almost not treat Mei Xiang as a human but only a tool for biological research. Please SNZ to give well treatment for giant pandas there. The South Korea is your model to take care of giant pandas if they are 6-star and SNZ will be 1-star that poor standard and not professional at all.
That's too sad to separate them. They are so cruel.

Here after learning that Mei Xiang's new cub is male. That makes Bao Bao the only princess.

It will be even sadder, I think, when the time comes for Bao Bao to go back to China.
Trish Neary yes it's sad but look the other way, more people in the world would be able to see Bao Bao in person. That's how this panda exchange program works, all newborns visit their homeland for a while then departure for a new place, so in the end, not only American and Chinese but people from other places will have a chance to visit panda zoo in their own country.

I think they do try that. The problem with breeding in captivity is that animals can be reluctant to breed. This is actually why we dont have every species in the zoo. Sometimes the zoos have tried but the animals end up dying of old age without breeding or just die in captivity. Wildlife conservation is still very important for the majority if species.
wild Panda cubs normally live with Panda mother only for 18 months, so the national zoo did it right
These pandas will NOT live in the wild, this happened becauae the SNZ want to impregnate Mei, and for monetary reasons and nothing more.
In reality, how do we know? If we change a situation, shouldn't we expect a change in behavior? The action of current pandas in the wild is isolation, that is because they never grew up with other pandas. Now they are in a kindergarten of pandas and they actually have siblings. Sort of like how we didn't expect that a society who implement 1 child law was bringing up a group of little Emperors.
CBS should do a follow-up to this story, and see how distraught both the mother and baby panda are, after having been forced to separate, and why. Look at how Bao Bao cried and crawled at the wall today to find her mother and how she stayed up in a tree, her safe place, until after 2AM the other night/morning. Her mother seems depressed as well.
I guess it's time for her to be a big girl bear. She needs to eat her own bamboo and sweet potato. Maybe get a job.

Not deal, ownership they own all the panda's. I am sure it there rule book that is being followed. When you look at China raising the pandas the love and touch they give is something so different then they allow them to do here. Anyway glad there off the endangered list.They truly are precious animals.

Medusa you clearly chose to ignore the rest of the video. she does not live in a cage, she goes in there to participate in MEDICAL procedures. what, would you rather the pandas NOT participate in things that will keep them healthy, or allow them to be treated for any illnesses? seriously, in tears? i love the pandas as much as the next person - in fact i love them so much i paid more money than i've ever paid to anyone in order to get a behind-the-scenes private tour of the panda house during the zoo's closed hours (part of the program they offer). but you shouldn't just pick & choose, then get all upset. Bao Bao wasn't sitting there trying to please the keepers, she was learning how to get her blood drawn. the ONLY things the pandas are taught are things to either help in medical care, or to keep them safe (responding to a keeper calling to them, going in the exam cage, that sort of thing). Bao Bao is a healthy, happy panda... thanks to the excellent care she receives which, thanks to this type of training, includes health care.
Bao looks really good and healthy....much better than at the SNZ.

How do they know they separate in the wild ? Maybe they got separated because the baby bear wandered off and got lost forever.

Yes, you can donate to a newborn panda and no name, name of donations for the pandas in the zoo can see the panda donor's name, was donated panda can't be taken away, it will be in the zoo.

I think Tai Shan is alone in his breeding center, nobody got any news of Tai Shan breeding
Tai Shan was found out he get some stomach problem because zoo in USA feed too much ice to him...People did it because of love and thinking good for them, but Panda is not developed as People, wild Panda cannot find ice to eat in sommer.
Bei Bei at 18 months and very attached to his mommy, was still nursing every evening when he was PERMANENTLY SEPARATED FOREVER from her on 2/28/17. SNZ was even more CRUEL AND HEARTLESS in the case of Bei's separation than Bao Bao's separation. I am beyond outraged and disappointed with SNZ.
More tax dollars for like programs, less for junkies, food stamps, and welfare moms.
