  • In this video I head to the Yorkshire Dales for 2 days of walking and camping. I got the train to Gargrave to join the Pennine Way north to Malham, Pen-y-ghent, Horton-in-Ribblesdale and then over to Hawes and Hardraw before getting the train back from Garsdale.

    Great Film Dean. Have just done the stretch from Gargrave to Horton this week. Had to laugh as I too forgot my Coffee. Woke up on the flank of Fountains Fell No Coffee!!!!! Cold water and a Welsh Cake not my usual breakfast when wild Camping.

    Absolutely loved this Dean. Finally catching up with all my CZcams at moment. The Pennine Way is appealing more and more every time I see it, especially this section. The area around Malham and Horton in Ribblesdale jump out the most at present. It’s great to see you out making the most of what was left of the Summer and being able to actually spend more time around the location. Thankyou for a great video. My darks nights this Winter aren’t dark no more. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing your trip Dean. Malham area looks amazing. Never having visited, I didn't realise the Tarn was so large. Gotta get up there sometime. And loved the brief view from atop the Ribblehead Viaduct at the end!

      I dream of the day when I have the time to do the goodness knows how many hundreds of hiking routes in this country that I want to do (let alone abroad) and don’t need to work to fund it! Wouldn’t that be great!

    Good timing Dean in uploading a video on the day I’ve actually got a decent WiFi signal here in Bellingham. Great seeing you back on the Pennine Way and you certainly picked one of the best sections there. My first ever time in the Yorkshire Dales and I loved it. I especially liked the section between Hawes and Tan Hill and the walk along the ridge and down to the little waterfalls. It’s a fab trail isn’t it. Did you get post trail blues after your 2019 adventure? I reckon I’ll be getting them when I’m back behind the work desk next week

      I definitely got post trail blues, I wanted to turn around and walk back the other way. I was sat at my desk looking out the window the following week processing what had happened the weeks before... Enjoy these last 2 days mate, it's in the bag now 👍😎

    Thought it looked familiar so i looked it up and Mallam cove was used as a location for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. Ha Ha at 14:39 you can hear the mic pick up you're funkyin it up to "Don't stop till you get enough"

    Excellent video. I've not walked the Pennine Way but have walked in all the villages you visited in this video. The Yorkshire 3 peaks I've done many times. Great footage. I have a fear now of cows after coming very close to being cornered by them. Did you have any problems on this walk?

I did an ultra marathon earlier this year so I had to laugh when I reminded them what they had said to me 😂 haha

    Ah looks wonderful! I can't wait to get out and recce the more northern bits of the Challenger route. So far, over the past year, I've managed Edale to Ickornshaw. Don't know about you but I think about the Challenger far too much and there's still about 9 months to go. Will come around before we know it though. How was the journey back? I'm similar area to you and intend to use public transport for my recces.

      Thanks for watching Hannah. I find myself daydreaming about the Pennine Way all the time, even more so now we've entered the Challenger :-) The journey back was straight forward.. White Bus to Garsdale station, then Northern Trains to Leeds then Sheffield. Looking forward to getting as much time as we can on the route before the big day arrives. Going to have a crack at it and take it steady, if I make it in 59hrs 59mins and 59seconds I'll be happy 😂

    nice video, relaxing style. Very enjoyable
    Small thing - it’s ‘HAR’ draw not ‘hore’ draw. I can feel the locals grinding their teeth
    Saw your Twitter feed, pictures of you at the pub. It was a warm one. Next day not so good. 4 seasons in a day but with the summer spine main risk must be dehydration, very exposed, with the breeze, deceptive.

    Do you think, the pennine way would be makable for beginners?

      If you have some walking and navigation experience then I'd say give it a go. It's a tough route but you can do it in smaller chunks.

    Do your trainers have studs?

      Just small grip so not studs specifically. You’d be fine with trail running shoes on this route but it would be very slippery in road running should or trainers if it’s wet. The limestone is treacherously slippery after rain
