In this episode, Hannah gets her makeup done for an adorable relationship photoshoot. Shane’s wheelchair breaks down, but Liz, Hannah, and Custom Mobility come to the rescue!

Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah just graduated from Carleton College, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology. Her future aspirations include attending graduate school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for 3+ years and living together in Minneapolis for a year. On June 15th, 2019 they got engaged!!!! Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.
Hannah doesn’t need makeup, she’s a natural beauty, inside and out.

I literally gasped and said WOOOW out loud when Hannah revealed her make up in the car. She's such a natural beauty anyway but that make up and turtleneck dress just looked amazing on her! 🤩
Yikes @ memories of electric wheelchair breakdowns! NOT fun, and it ALWAYS seems to happen at the most in opportune times and places! My husband is an electronics engineer and got to where he carried a little bag of tools everywhere that chair went. He either knew how to completely repair, or knew how to nilly-rig it to last long enough to have it properly repaired.
The most memorable breakdown was at NASA-Houston. On this long sidewalk as we were looking at older rockets/models. My husband was troubleshooting, and it was boiling hot outside. When next we see is 4 men in NASA orange jumpsuits carrying a manual chair, several bottles of water, and one of the men had a large toolbox! They helped to transfer me to the manual chair and got me inside the museum and AC. Two men stayed with my husband helping him figure out the issue (a cable fried). However, we didn’t normally carry cables in the little toolkit. One of the men radio’d someone and next you know, another orange jumpsuited employee brought several cables. The now 4 men (3 NASA and my husband) were working on or giving their 2¢ and/or support. They got it fixed within about 30min. We offered to pay for the cable and water bottles but they declined saying they are “just the” maintenance team and doing something like this not only blessed them but gave them something “new” to do outside their normal day to day maintenance requirements!

Dear Pam, I use a manual wheelchair with electric Alber e-motion wheels that occasionally have breakdowns (Ugh!). I am also a BIG Nasa fan. Your story absolutely made my day! Thank you so much for sharing!

Oh my gosh. The fact that Shane recognized Mike at that repair shop pretty much confirmed for me that the universe has a way of keeping tabs on everyone. Also, Lauren (was that the girl’s name who did Hannah’s makeup?) did a great job. It was so simple, but I liked it

I’m flying solo for the first time (I have a form of MD and use a power chair too) down to Miami in the spring and sooo nervous. This video made me feel better though... it helps to see how you problem solve through wheelchair issues

Just keep your dad talking, that’s what my dad and I had to do to prevent us from crying during our father/daughter dance. My hubby and his mom bawled their eyes out because they didn’t talk.
Where's Shane's false eyelashes??? Hannah's naturally pretty, but she looks fabulous there. And it's a measure of the trust between them that she's prepared to go barefoot around his powerchair. ❤️

@@ChrisPage68 , my foot was run over by a wheelchair. It hurt, but I was lucky my foot didn't get injured because I was wearing a fairly soft shoe that day. After that, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea wearing steel toe shoes when working in health care.

Power chairs do break at the most inconvenient times. One chair I had many years broke down when I was the best man at my brothers wedding. So I sure understand how frustrating it can be.
