Stylistically, West Virginia was the toughest game for Villanova that entire tournament. Michigan, who like Virginia (overall 1 seed, unranked in preseason) relied heavily on scoring defense via tempo control was totally outmatched in the second half.
Texas Tech was in someways a mirror image of the Wildcats but the glass was the deciding factor in that gritty Elite 8 game.
As a WVU fan this game still haunts me but I was so proud of that team. That year and the previous year they faced juggernauts in the sweet 16 and came so close to the upset.
Spellman went to my high school for PG. probably the most down-to-earth and focused guy you'll meet

This Villanova team was one of the best all around team I've have seen in all my years of watching March Madness..Brunson..Paschall..DiVincenzo..Spellman..and Bridges all went to the NBA from this team
and they had a future all american Colin Gillespie coming off the beach💯

High level college basketball game right here. Villanova looks better offensively than they did 2 years ago when they beat us for the title. Yes, I am a die-hard UNC fan and I can admit this Nova team looks like the best team in the nation. Let's hope Duke doesn't get to the final four, but if they do, I'll be pulling for Nova. Never thought I'd say that.

The first 30 minutes of this game were the best 30 minutes of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Villanova just had too much firepower and West Virginia ran out of gas. Incredible, breathtaking first 30 minutes though.
It was more for the foul calls, Dax got 3-4 fouls in the first 2 minutes of the second half. One was for double teaming when he ran off his man, game was awful

WV's biggest problem in this game and all season was the willingness to give-up the open corner 3 via a double-team on the guy driving the lane. Hasn't been remedied in the last 3-4 seasons. Open corner 3s are one of the highest percentage shots in basketball.
It was decided at this very moment.

Good game WVU. You played a great game. I will admit the refs weren't good, but the way they called the game wasn't going to be enough for WVU anyways. It would have been a closer game, but would have been a 4 point win instead of 12. And it is not the refs fault you you struggled making baskets in the 2nd half. It's not the ref's fault that Villanova was hitting all their shots.
WV was running the show through the 2nd half until the refs jumped in and bailed Nova out. they called 3 fouls on Miles that at least 2 weren't fouls - that put him out most of the 2nd half. The only reason Nova pulled away was the free-throws.
They only attempted six more than West Virginia. And I don't think the refs had anything to do with Villanova shooting 50 percent from the floor or making 13 3's. And how exactly is a six-point lead running the show, may I ask?

Even though Villanova was elite and won the National Championship fairly... this game exposed the inferior players on their roster (Gilsepie, Booth, Cosby-Roundtree, etc). The Draft picks won Nova this game but those other dudes on the roster have no future in basketball. And when I mean inferior I mean INFERIOR. Go watch what a raw 18 year old named Kevin Knox did by himself against this same West Virginia team, without a system offense, and tell me these Villanova players are all show stoppers.
