  • Shelling some corn on November 25th. We did 150 bushels of ear corn in about 35 minutes. Translates to roughly 75 bushels of shelled corn. Tractor is a Farmall BN, truck is a 1969 ford C-700. Ron bought the sheller on the 24th for 50 bucks. We brought it home, put 2 new belts on it and we were shelling that same day. Pretty good for a shellere that is 60 years old and hasnt run in the last 20.

Used to work with one of these also - a well designed machine. It can process the large quantities of ear corn just as shown in this video. In the end, there was always something small and quirky breaking down, but overall it was impressive considering when it was designed.
And hearing protection is recommended due to the sound of the kernels rushing through the pipe, as can be heard in this video.

Mine broke down quite often too.. I bought a drag elevator and shoveled into it . Didnt have to worry about the hearing since I've had tinnitus since i was little. lol

Thanks for posting this video! I haven't seen a sheller with internals like this one before. (most I've seen are the small ones with cast, rotating plates with 'knobs' on them) I'd also love to see even a small conveyer for take off from the ear-corn wagon, to save the shoveling (I assume you'd make one if you plan to shell a lot off those self-unloading wagons, or build a mound and pull the wagon up on it to gravity-feed, if you selected one spot to shell in). Anyway, I'm grateful you shared this! Thanks!

They pop up every once in a while, you just have to keep any eye out. This one shelled un-husked corn just fine so you should be alright.

We own one of those shellers, (different model) and I've never been able to adjust it correctly. It would leave lots of corn on the cobs, so I'd adjust it, then it would start putting pieces of cob in the shelled corn. Is there any way to fix this besides using the grain cleaner?

How do you keep from plugging the blower tube? I have replaced the rubber flashings on the fan but corn keeps plugging tube. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Is a john deere like this hard to find? Im after something like this in capacity. Would it be able to shell if the outside of the cob is still on it ?
    thanks

My nephew is a 14 year old FFA student who has been selling shelled corn for deer corn. His father raises corn to feed their cattle. We are looking for a JD 43 corn sheller. Would you know where one is for sell.

Not right off hand. They are kinda hard to come by. We found this one by accident when I was buying a mounted corn picker. All you can do is keep an eye out on craigslist and some used farm equipment sites because they do pop up every once in a while.

We are looking at a sheller that we want to buy and it leaves pieces of cobs in it . Is there a way to keep this from happening.

Usually when a sheller is chewing the cobs up it is due to a poor quality ear. The cob is weak and cand handle being beat up in the shelling cage so it breaks apart. Only chance you would have to reduce this is to slow the sheller down a little bit and reduce the shelling rate which is different on every make of sheller but there is usually some sort of adjustable block off plate at the far end of the cage that you open or close to determin how long the ears are in the cage.

Too bad they didn't have a corn drag. It would of eliminated the shoveling.Guess they couldn't find one anywhere. An elevator also would do the trick.Oh well, kids can shovel eh?
