  • Learning from mistakes is the WORST, but I'm afraid there is no better teacher than failure Follow along as I share the rookie mistake that set me back a month, forcing me to re-think and re-evaluate my next sample library release.

The amount of times I've recorded one side of a stereo signal twice, usually when I've spent ages getting the perfect take.
I can only imagine the pain when sampling.

Life is so often one step backward and two steps forward and it's refreshing to hear you talk about it like this, great video man.

Don't beat yourself up Jon - there are those of us who have done something similar and there are those who are economical with the truth ;-)

I like the analogy of the twice-broken lens, re-glued and re-used. Sony lens, 3.0.

Working imperfectly and making mistakes is far too often left off of the youtube sphere. Thank you for showing this.

Great video and a lot to ponder. Personally, I love that squeaky door sample and can see potential in it. It would be interesting to see how it would sound as a brass/trumpet ensemble, with harmonies etc.
I love when my wife notices something like your laptop and tells me to replace it. You are blessed.
The word “quit” is not part of my vocabulary. However, there are times where I have zero motivation, even when the inspiration is there.

Always appreciate your honest takes , quite often you say something i need to take on board . Setbacks happen its just part of the journey , music related creativity take up a lot of time and just like life it doesnt go perfectly all the time and tomorrows a new day.

Oh man, the number of times i've been at someone's house with a 4 hour time window sampling their semi-concert grand and I screw up.... Luckily I've found some workarounds, as you say. Luckily I do it out of love and not for profit.

I love these videos. you and van neistat are my faves and on his Patreon he's been making videos that are a little less elaborate and more personal and I love that so much! it seems like what you are moving toward as well! less trendy topics more honest thoughts about how to be a better creator! almost like a short podcast that is color graded and shot a little more intentionally

Hey Jon, love your content. Did you ever make a video about your desk build. I’m thinking about doing something similar.
