For those thinking of trying a centrepin for the first time, don't be put off by having to wind backwards because of problems with the wind. Winding backwards is counter intuitive and is not to be recommended. Buy a centrepin with a line-guard fitted, there are no disadvantages to using a line guard, you can easily manage every type of cast with a line guard fitted, (including 'Wallis Casting', contrary to popular opinion) and you can wind forwards.

Got to agree line coming off the top is best for me too. Also when playing a fish thus your thumb is in a better place to put pressure on a fish, as your thumb doesnt get pushed back as it would with line coming off bottom. Also no acute line angle , the line perfectly straight from top of spool and goes through first rod eye straight and not at the awkward angle ,as it does when coming off bottom of spool. You can also wallis cast too with line coming off the top despite what everyone seems to say.

Is that rod a pin specific rod as its eyes look large almost like a spinning rod?
