Blood meal and bone meal works really well. And I agree, potting mix is fluffier.

  • @elderyehudahwatchmanoftheg8425

Absolutely amazing information sista. You mean potting soil vs planting mix. The potting soil is for containers and the planting mix is for beds. However you can use the potting mix which is more porous for beds depending on what is being grown. You are spot on.

1st time planting ANYTHING this year. And this was becuz my grandkids wanted to plant watermelons. We dug a one line area in backyard just to plant I didn’t think they would grow, but now we have 4 good plants with fury leaves. I have no flowers coming yet, hopefully they will. I’ve been watching lots of videos. I think I better put a gate around them just in case. Should I add some of that meal now becuz I haven’t added at all. Plz do more videos so I can see your progress with the vines💕

I sure wish you could have been here but we finally ate our first sugar baby!! I made some mistakes and put to many together maybe but yesterday it was so hot and asked my girlfriend want some sugar baby? of course she thought kiss but I rewarded her with a kiss and some watermelon haha At the age of 54 I sure wish I would took this journey sooner and started growing much sooner in life. Seeing that beautiful M on your shirt we'll be in Michigan September 16th at the big house, I honestly forget who they are playing but my brother hooked up on some tickets and thought of us yAy this will be my girlfriends first visit to the big house and at a night game which I stoked on since I have never had the chance. I got to admit my First game we lucked out and somehow ended up on the field tosses balls with the players. My mom passed away weeks prior and I believe she was with us and took us on the field, still have the picture of my feet to prove I was standing on the M! My girlfriend and I switched our eating habits and started using smoothies. Her and I have killed more watermelons this year than we have in the pass 5 years all together easily. Do you think we have time before old man winter rolls in? I think I got to urge to late to try and grow a watermelon late in the season. Down here in North Carolina ( I'm a Michigander at heart GO BLUE! I traded the winters in for down here) its been super hot with little to no rain were strolling quickly into July already. Think we could pull it off? Our most brutal month coming which is August will get even more hot than it already has. Thank you for the info and because of your shirt you earned a new sub!!!!

I'm also a organic gardener who switched to no till, its honestly one of the best things I have done. Adding the worms just puts the cherry on top! since I use a cover crop with straw can I skip the cardboard? Not that its a big deal, because the worms tend to leave cocoons and or eat the cardboard. GOD is amazing isn't he? I've recently had a stroke and I am still here thanks to GOD! And now I use his worms as my warriors to feed my plants haha how much better can you get than that?!?!

    • @BACKYARDGARDENER

I do think that you have time but you have to do it now. Sugar baby watermelons take 99 days from seed to harvest. Once your plants pop up slowly start feeling a liquid fertilizer like fish fertilizer. This will speed up the vegetative growth. Thank you Mike for watching happy gardening to both of you all

@@BACKYARDGARDENER they only grow in greenhouses or polytunnels here as our average daily temperatures in summer tend to be in the low 70s with the occasional days into the low 80s 😁

Yes melons are heavy feeders you have to keep them fertilized and you have to water them

i wish we could have watched you apply the bone meal so we could have learned just how much to apply. i mean, that was the point of this video, wasn't it?

Well the beautiful thing about blood meal and bone meal is that it's organic so you really can't make a huge mistake. It will not burn your plant but don't overdo it.
