- An intriguing and passionate Porsche enthusiast, Magnus Walker has curated a distinguished Porsche collection with an approach that defies convention. His most beloved is a surprisingly simple and well-worn 911 that has achieved iconic status: "277" 1971 Porsche 911T, a street-legal track car rolling on Outlaw fifteen52 wheels, Hoosier R6 tires, a 915 transmission, a Quaife limited-slip differential, and corner-balanced suspension. Nicole meets with the Urban Outlaw at his downtown Los Angeles garage and discovers OPP- Other People's Porsches.
MORE ABOUT MAGNUS WALKER:
Magnus Walker was born in Sheffield, England. He dropped out of school at the age of 15, went to the United States for a summer job, and stayed in California, driven by the will to make his dreams come true. Today, Magnus is a fashion designer, style icon, automobile enthusiast-and owner of one of the world’s most astonishing collections of Porsches, housed in an old factory building in Los Angeles. How he made his way from the blue-collar British city of Sheffield to glitzy southern California is recounted in his autobiography, Urban Outlaw, and in the Tamir Moscovici documentary of the same name.

I was at the Amelia Island Concours in Florida 6 or 7 years ago with my son. My son was 16 at the time. I am standing there looking at a Porsche Boxster with my son and I turn to my left and their was Magnus standing there. I had watched Urban Outlaw over and over for many years before that day. I know who Magnus Walker was because of the film. Urban Outlaw was an inspiration. Magnus was just standing there alone. I reached out to say hi not really knowing the man. Let me tell you, he was a very genuine person. Extremely cordial and easy to engage. We spoke for a moment about cars and passion for Porsche. The most memorable part for me was how he turned the conversation to my son. He wanted to engage my son in discuss and treated him with great respect as a younger car guy. I will never forget the kindness he showed to my son. Thank you Magnus.
Thank you so much for sharing with us...love it!!!
Magnus: "you did your homework"
As soon as he knew Nicole understands the technical details of how cars work, Magnus really started to unleash the passion.
I feel lucky to experience Nicole Johnson's Detour because the guests she highlights really do take center stage. Nicole puts the research in to let the guests shine and the channel appeal to the viewers. Thanks Nicole!
That's so nice!! Thank you for watching and for the comment!!
Agreed... I have gotten way behind on these and now need to go back and catch about! Regarding Magnus, it shows the passion that he has a garage like that and yet knows more specs about the car than I did about my built 4th gen Prelude as an enthusiastic 22 year old. He's constantly rattling off stats, not only about the custom car, but general Porsche stats, etc... Pretty damn impressive!
Nice one Nicole. 😎
Agreed 100%!
Totally loved this video.
Nicole, one cool car chick, "can talk the talk, walk the walk".
Love ya work girl !
This was the best interview of Magnus Walker that I’ve ever seen! We got to see the true Urban Outlaw! 👍🏽
We appreciate that!! Glad you enjoyed watching!
Thank you and keep up the good works! 👍🏽
Totally agree. The best interview by far.
I agree with this 100%! Makes me love this brand even more!
Nicole, you are the "real deal", not some poseur. Knowledgeable, very competent driver, good interviewer, and you understand how to handle yourself in front of a camera and make sure the guest is the center of attention. I upvoted and subscribed in the middle of the very first of your videos I came across, the one about the lunatic who cut his MGB in half so he could put in a V-8 engine. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!! We appreciate the support!!
This channel is so underrated. This is every bit as good as the cobra videos. The passion for the cars is just incredible.
That's so nice..thank you!! We're glad you like it!!

Have a peaceful weekend Nicole. 🌲
@Johnny-tt8zc I agree. I’ve tried to get every car person I know to check out Nicole’s channel. She deserves the support of the automotive community. The cool thing too is that she’s the same gal in person as she seems to be on the episodes. Exuberant, intelligent, engaging, knowledgeable… the whole enchilada. And that smile!
@@58raceguy how kind! Thank you!
Oh yeah!
Nicole - I can't believe how you were able to conduct such a great interview and say so little in the process. Magnus is truly a force of nature and I love his creativity. Nice left foot braking by the way.
Awesome!! Thanks Jim!!
Magnus Walker, a magnanimous personality, an embodiment of pure passion, genuine empathy, and unbound humility. I felt like he somehow managed to give all those attributes to his 277 Porsche 911T. What a person and what a car! This is the best CZcams video that I have watched in a long time. Thank you, Ms. Johnsson, for this amazing interview.
You're welcome...we're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
Another incredible episode Nicole, thank you so much for bringing this to us. Magnus is truly his own man and I respect his willingness to build his cars HIS way. I love original cars, radically customized cars, and everything in between. I’m inspired by people and cars that represent their taste and passion, whatever that may be. Magnus and his cars are perfect examples of that.
Oh, and you got the shoes!!! How cool is that???
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Always fun to see two high-energy and positive people go full gearhead talking about their love for cars. Magnus' collection is awesome. Dude comes across as 100% genuine. That 277 looked like so much fun to drive. But, inquiring viewers want to know: did you get to keep the shoes? 😁😁
Thank you for the comment!! We're glad you enjoyed watching and yes..the shoes came home with me!!!
🐿️ Glad you didn’t kill the squirrel, Thanks from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thank you for watching!! Greetings to you in Sweden!!
There are lots of great automotive channels on youtube, but Nicole's vids are always one-of-a-kind magic, you just don't get this same content anywhere else.
Wow, thank you! We appreciate that!!
best car channel on youtube, hands down
“You don’t want to hit a rock and split a Hoosier”…. Ha!!
This was so much fun to watch ❤😅
We're so glad you enjoyed it!!
What a great episode. Those exterior shots look awesome. Well done, Detour gang!
Thank you...glad you enjoyed watching!
YESS! I've been so excited for this video ever since you mentioned it over on the Audrain channel! As a Porsche "enthusiast"-lol- I never understood the poo-pooing of personalization. Porsche racing is all about trying new things. People hated the 996 headlights...even though they were directly from the GT1, etc. I really appreciate getting to see more of Magnus' transaxle and 914, 928, etc collection. I REALLY wanted to name my son Magnus but my wife wouldnt budge. Thanks again, Nicole!
We're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
I love how passionate Magnus is. He literally rememberers every spec , size, measurement, era, and nuance of his cars. A true enthusiast who became successful because of this reason. Loved it!
Thank you for watching!!
Nicole just made me realize what Mac De Marco ment with his song "my kind of women". Thank you for this. What a collection!
Thank you so much for watching!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the video, which was pin sharp with so many camera angles of the car. Magnus was running on Nitrus, full of exuberance and passion for his cars. Lovely touch giving you those Nike shoes 👌Loved to dog too.
Glad you enjoyed it...we appreciate you watching!
Oh my gosh Nicole. To spend time with a man like Magnus. You go girl! BTW. Nice shoes.
Yes! Thank you! We appreciate you watching!
I love Magnus, I must have watched Urban Outlaw 25 times when it came out in 2012. He's the coolest!
When you got in the main garage, it looked like your jaw broke. What an amazing guy and collection. 277 is simply THE driver's Porsche.
Thank you for watching!!
This is now my favorite auto channel. It's so unpredictable. Great video again!!!
Thank you so much!! We hope you subscribe to our channel!!
You were so geeked out in this episode I got almost as excited as you did another wonderful episode, car, and guest
Thank you...glad you enjoyed watching!!
Magnus is the Lemmy of the car world. Legend. 🤘🤘
Thank you so much for watching!
Hello Nicole,
I never know if I watch your videos for the extraordinary cars you present to us with immense talent or for your luminous presence?!
Thank you! 😃...we appreciate you watching!!
Legendary vehicles, interesting human stories, nice editing, great video every time.
Thank you...we appreciate that!!
Great seeing you back with a new video Nicole, hope your having a good weekend ❤✌️
Thank you! You too!
This has to be the best interview of Magnus ever made and by far! I never felt this kind of "being there listening to him" so passionate about everything especially the 277, such a great job, and what an awesome dude! you killed it Nicole!
Thanks for watching...so glad you enjoyed it!!
I LOVE Magnus' position: "It's my car, I do what I want with it." EXACTLY as anyone who wants to modify any car should feel. And OMG, he understands the technical aspects of the cars so well! I love that stuff, as a frustrated, wannabe engineer.
We agree!! Thank you for watching!
Thank you Nicole for another great episode and my new favourite. This guy is wild! What a masterpiece ❤, this man is the Gandelf of Porsches!
Glad you enjoyed it! We appreciate you watching!
I was at 24hrs of Le Mans in 2017 with a buddy, talking about 911’s over breakfast and I mentioned “you need to check out Magnus Walker” and I show him a snippet of the Outlaw video… 20 minutes later near the Dunlop bridge in the crowd my buddy goes “hey, isn’t that the dude from that video??” … sure enough it was Magnus standing right behind me. We chatted for a while and he is the nicest guy! Great to see his enthusiasm hasn't wained 🎉
Thank you for sharing with us!!
my two new heros, i want to watch u race matching boxsters, multi-tasking racing class
Haha!! We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
Usually just listen while I work but Magnus has such a great collection and garage to match I’ve got to watch this episode.
Thank you so much!!
That man can talk! What a nice man that is happy and excited for life and will live past 100!
Thank you for watching!!
EL Magnus! He can talk all day and one still wants to listen some more!! Good job Nicole!!
Thank you so much for watching!
OMG! The total LA experience: DTLA loft, Magnus, Porsche 277, Angeles Crest, life is good for Nicole.
We appreciate you watching...glad you enjoyed it!!
Magnus is the too flipping cool...and his 277 911 is what it is, in the best possible way...So envious ❤😂❤
We agree!! Thanks for watching!!
PLEEEEEEZE take the 'California Kid' out for a canyon rumble. Love your work.
What a motor.
What a dude.
Homegrown from a town with a great pub music scene and a decent pint.

Who wouldn’t love this car. That sound alone, is beautiful. Thank you Nicole for sharing with us. You and your crew bringing the goods again!
Thank you...we're glad you enjoyed!!
You outdo yourself with every film. Amazing.
Thank you so much...we appreciate that!!
i am fully convinced Nicole would be completely understanding why my 1970s collection of Moto Morini motorcycles BUILT my wonderfully appreciated machine shop. Magnus gets it; this i knew already, but Nicole impresses in this telling journey with Magnus in Magnus' sublime genius of the effort.
Thank you so much for watching!!
Excellent fun with Magnus and Nicole
I've never liked the idea of a center hood gas cap, the drip potential would bother me.
Thank you for watching...glad you enjoyed it!
Nicole, your Detour is my favorite show on CZcams (or anywhere for that matter) and I never miss an episode! Thank you so much for being you! 🙏🏻♥️
Wow, thank you! We sincerely appreciate your support!!
This channel is one of my favorite gems that i like to forward to my car buddies
Awesome...thank you so much!!
In 2016 I watched a short movie about Magnus and his insane collection, alongside with his wife's clothing design. Awesome couple!
Magnus is one of a kind for sure. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for watching!
One of the best car Channels on YT and probably the most underated
Thank you..we appreciate that!!
"Oozing Cool" 😂. You really picked an eclectic guy to feature here. The cars are badass, but Magnus is the true gem here...aside from you that is!
Magnus, if you had to choose one model of car that's NOT a Porsche, what would it be?
Thanks for another fun ride guys!
You're welcome!! Thank you for watching!
WOW a LEGEND !!! Love MAGNUS he has character and is a genius at what ever he sets to do
Nice comment!! Thank you for watching!
I love all the pictures of Karen, a great friend of mine in Atlanta!
Miss her...great vid
Glad you enjoyed it..we appreciate you watching!
What a top bloke. I feel like I've known Magnus my whole life. I reckon him and me would get along like old time buddies because my dad is a Porsche specialist so I grew up around these things during my childhood and also other cars.
Thank you for sharing with us.. nice comment!!
I just love him. Have had a chance to meet him twice, and he is always gracious and loves to chat about cars. He's a really down to earth guy. I haven't figured out the secret sauce to making my SC sound anything like his 277, but some day I will.
Thank you for watching...we appreciate the comment!!
Thiiis was the best 36mins of video conent I've seen in a veeeery long time. Magnuse's life story is pretty exciting adventure and Nicole brought her spirit of warm overwhelming pasionate emotions again turning whole meeting into wonderful experience.....
I'm totaly mesmerized how Magnus learned himself to perfectly understand his cars. From facts he described the manufacturers, even Porsche themselves, do production set up of their current cars completely wrong in terms of handling on public roads because he preffer race track chassis tuning.
We're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
I have a 1977 Euro spec 911 that doesn’t have boosted brakes. The brakes are probably my favorite part of the car. Pedal feels so good, and only “upgrade” I’ve done is stainless braided lines. I’m actually in the middle of rebuilding the calipers right now.
Cool...thanks for sharing!!
Your enthusiasm keeps me enthralled with your videos 👍👍
Yay, thank you! We're so glad you enjoy watching!!
Absolutely fantastic. So happy that I am not alone in seeing how cool Magnus is. Magnus is a Rock Star.
We appreciate you watching!! Glad you enjoyed it!
What a Lucky Guy... To have this Natural Magnetism attracting Success, Friendships, Loves for cars, and all from a Hobbiest's point of view. Just like being a happy child every day. Like the excitement of a lad opening up a model car box for the first time.
I loved the microsecond shot of you left foot braking with those cool 277 kicks ! 🥰
Thanks!! I always brake with left foot!!
Credit for being a multitasker in this one. Getting bombarded with information and responding intelligently whilst learning to drive someone elses car! Magnus is a force of nature. Amazing.
Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!
Magic man and wow on his life, cars, artwork and designs. Man with a dream. 💯👍
Thank you for watching!
Magnus is so determined to spread the good word of Porsche that he’s infecting other channels with it now!
Thanks for watching!
You are a Real Character Nicole..... But I think you have met your match with Magnus.... He is a real Yorkshire man... Just like ME.......... What an amazing story he has... Fantastic video as ever...... :-)) xxxxx
Thank you...glad you enjoyed it!!
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour I love everything you do Nicole..... Bless Ya... :-)) xxxxxx
Magnus is quite the character. Another great episode, Nicole. Thank you for all your great work.
We're so glad you enjoyed watching...much appreciated!!
I learned more about Porsche in this video then I ever thought I would know. And magnus seems like probably one of the coolest guys you could meet
We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
Damn - can’t believe UO came out 11 years ago. Definitely an iconic marker in car culture history
We agree!!
Yep, all the stuff that Magnus described (with Nicole demonstrating) - the immediacy, the connection, the simplicity and purity of form and function - is why I’ve been fascinated with 911s SIX YEARS LONGER THAN MAGNUS! ;^) Difference is he’s managed to gather a warehouse full of em, but I’ve yet to attain one. But I’ll keep dreamin’….
We're glad you enjoyed watching!! Thanks for the comment!!
Nicole manages to get under the surface which others can only scratch. Great episode!
Thank you...we appreciate that!!
NICOLE, love your show. This time with Magnum is your best yet .
Thanks hope to see you both at SEMA 2023.

Thank you so much for watching!!
This is fascinating! I’m downloading it now so I can watch it on my flight home! Nicole this one is cool!
That's awesome...thank you!!
Awesome guy with extreme cool cars✌️thanks for the video Nicole ❤
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it!
The rain-gutter delete on his 964 is my favorite modification. I’ve always thought the rain-gutters took away from the aesthetic of the older 911s.
Best Magnus interview ever
Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!
Holy Shit!!..I remember Magnus. I lived on Westminster, between Ocean/Pacific from 90-93. I spent a ton of time on the boardwalk and in the shops on Ocean, weekly. What an awesome story, true passion. Nicely done, Nicole!! OPP..;-)) The hat looks good too!!
Thank you!! We're so glad you enjoyed watching!
Absolutely loved this man and his environment!! I've been out of touch with car culture more than I thought, thank you for the introduction. Magnus living every boy car nuts dream, and the American dream.
Glad you enjoyed it! We appreciate you watching!!
Wow! Magnus REALLY knows his stuff when it comes to Porshe, doesn't he? Great episode, Nicole. I feel like there could be a Part II where you wander around his garage checking out all those great cars!
Thank you so much for watching!!
Great interview with Magnus, long life to OPP, cheers, Nicole.
We're glad you enjoyed it!! Cheers to you!!
Enjoyed that, more insight into the Urban Outllaw than virtually any other interview I have seen. You got to the source of the passion of the man, the brand and the car.
Glad you enjoyed watching..thank you!!
Magnus is such an interesting person.
More young people need to follow people like this.

Nicole's energy is so contagious. Great interview.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed watching!
All I can say about this episode is wow. Lucky you! Keep it up!!
We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour To quote many others on here, you are underated.
Nicole, your show is fantastic, your enthusiasm is infectious, and your content, knowledge and willingness to learn second to none. I'm way down here in New Zealand, and finding quality shows like yours is gold. Looking forward to lots of pieces from you in the future, you deserve your success. Jake.
Wow, thank you! We're so glad you enjoy watching...we appreciate it!!
I adore Magnus. He's a man's man
That's very nice!! Thanks for the comment!!
You know Nicole, truly, thank you and your team for putting these docu series with the car communities’s most notorious & legendary to the not so known yet absolute legendary gearheads. It’s the most utterly entertaining, special, and engaging content that I’ve seen in years! The character and soul in these episodes is just incredible. Thank you!!!
I stumbled upon this channel from the latest video showcasing the most mindblowingly sick ratrod I’ve seen, and I was hooked. Watched 4 episodes straight!😂 Seeing that you’d also had the privilege to interview Magnus Walker and experience the 977 just hit home! Being a teenager with a PS4 not just a few years ago (2018/9+) I Lived on the NEED FOR SPEED game that was name dropped. There was no game that connected with me as much as NFS, and I Love it. Could probably finish the game in 15 hours because I’d gotten so good at it haha last time I finished it in 18. That being said, it was only in the recent years of my early adult hood that I discovered these CZcams channels (and now reels) with people interviewing and bringing to light (in the internet scene of things) who Nakai San is, Ken Block, Magnus Walker. I’m beyond happy to have seen this and enjoyed listening to Magnus’s Story with all of the life blessings and lessons. It definitely filled a part of me that I didn’t know needed to be. Truly, it was heartbreaking and just soul wrenching to hear of Ken Blocks passing, rest his soul, but it would truly be such an amazing thing to have some sort of special for his legacy, his companies, cars.. I know his wife and daughter are full fledged professionals in the racing industry (pardon my improper terms) so I think and strongly suggest if that could be possible to get put together!! Not only, but also Nakai San! He’s also contributed a whole bunch to the Porsche community with the RWB co.
Again, thank you Nicole and your team for this massive production of such awesome content. Keep it up!!!
We're so glad you found our channel!! Thank you for the nice comment...we appreciate it!!!
He's a character. . I will admit, I had to google him to know who he is. Nicole, you didn't seem to get to talk to much. The passion Magnus has is great.
Thank you so much for watching!!
I love the expression & the freeze frame moment as Nicole steps into the main garage space... I had similar pause after I rehabed a former retail building for the owners to store their 956,960, Carrera 4, Carrera 6, 912, 928's production # 1-2 & 4, 300 Sl, early 70's Alfa Romeo cabrio & a few other jaw dropping classics..
Thank you for sharing with us!!
Love this !! I learned more in this video about my own 79 SC than I’ve watched in anything before . God .. I want to drive that road !!!
Thank you so much for watching...glad you enjoyed it!!
Nicole, another great episode. Don't let Dennis Collins see this one, if he shows up at Magnus's garage, it will be a classic video and a Clash of the Titans!!
Thank you for watching!!
Boy, Magnus sure does love talking about Magnus!!
Ha ha , I find him exhausting with all the self-promotion :)
absolutely epic. lots of people have interviewed magnus but nicole, you actually seemed interested. and magnus' description of the 277 car - suspension, gearbox, etc - while you were driving it was fantastic. well done.
We're so glad you enjoyed watching...thank you!!!
This is one of the best interviews with Magnus...and the SHOES are just amazing...DUDE is the real deal..Doing his thing..and the world follows

Amazing collab right here!
Yes it was! Thank you for watching!!
Thanks again Nicole. Magnus 277. Sooo cool.
Thank you for watching!
This was one of the coolest videos. I can believe that there was spots in this video that you became speechless like when you went into the main garage and when you got the shoes. Thank you Nicole and your team for making and sharing this video with us. Have a good one. Have fun take care
Thank you so much...we're glad you enjoyed watching!
Wow, and I almost missed this episode. A wonderful collection. The modifications are so well done. Cars from when driving required driver input and full attention.
Glad you enjoyed it..we appreciate you watching!!
Cool video! And cool to see the area I grew up in. When that 6th St bridge opened in July of 2022 the first months were chaos😂 people were going on top of the arches, some guy did a burnout, crashed into a car then jumped of the bridge with a parachute. It got so crazy they closed the bridge for some days.
Thank you for sharing with us!! We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
funny thing, I was never in to Porsche when I was young. The older I get the more appreciation I have for them and now I really want to build one.
Awesome!! Go for it!!
Great interview with Magnus. He's even cooler in person. I was really amazed how much You knew Nicole about alignment and suspension, also how you used your left foot for braking. Great driving!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
The way he describes the physical connection of all the mechanical parts to the driver is exactly why I prefer driving old cars. Newer cars are faster and easier to drive, but they lose the connection of the driver to their environment.
Love the show! Keep it up!
Thank you so much for watching...glad you enjoyed!!
another awesome video. thanks guys...
Thank you too...we appreciate you watching!!
