The Bears came into this game leading the NFL in sacks, they couldn’t even touch Jimmy today without Mack. It’s kinda crazy how much influence pass rushers like Mack, Donald, and the Watt and Bosa brothers have on an entire defensive scheme. Without them on the field, the defense just looks lost. Their presence is worth more than any stat sheet could imply.
Perfect analysis. Bears are cursed. Their offense shocks but the NFL gods pluck their most premier player
I’m a 49ers fan, and I’ve had to deal with a lot of casual 49ers fans saying “where’s Bosa? He’s only averaging one sack per game…”
First of all, that’s VERY good for an edge rusher.
Second of all, it’s not just about how many sacks a player gathers. It’s about generating pressures, forcing the offense to change their plans, and as you mentioned, opening up opportunities for other defensive linemen.
Edge rusher is the second most important position in the sport (after quarterback) and the way they affect offensive game plans is the reason why. I doubt we have the second half we did if Mack plays against us today.
I agree with that when nick bosa was hurt for us last year it killed us glad he is back with us
Absolutely. Besides the QB, a productive pass rusher is the most impactful and valuable player on the team.
Etchy don't put Mack and Donald in the same sentence, they're not even close. Khalil Mack is the most overrated DE/LB edge rusher whatever you wanna call him, Donald and Garrett are wrecking balls , not Mack

The 49ers just played better with their offense, Jimmy G looking more like old Jimmy that I know. Running the ball for two TDs and just getting a gritty win.

He had some good but Mooney was open all day 20-30 yards downfield and he choose to run for 15 instead every time. Not to mention another game with under 200, a turnover and a fumble. Bustin Fieldgoals ain’t the guy. 3rd straight week against a depleted defense and did almost nothing in the air. Mike white in his first start went for over 400 and 3 tds.
I jus wanna give props to Justin Fields, he played really well today. But the 49ers offense AND defense overcame their constant penalties which is what was dragging the team all season. Good job to both teams and Happy Halloween

Don't forget that Seattle game. The niners had the Seahawks go scoreless on something like the first 5 or 6 possessions. The niners offense just couldn't score points

Justin fields is getting a lot more comfortable in that pocket and that's good the trust factor is a lot stronger than it used to be. Bears still have some growing to do but I think they're gonna be quite a contending team in the near future

They wrong when they say Fields ain't got weapons, Money and Robinson are a pretty good WR pair. This was an encouraging loss, I feel like the Bears can win with Fields.

Bears were playing well on both sides of the ball and then gave up 18 points in the 4th because the 49ers ran outside runs like it was retro bowl.

I’ll give jimmy credit for that amazing deep pass that he never can make or even tries to make. Two rushing tds too. He played well, but he always does against bad defenses. He’s awful against good defenses. We’ll see that next two games. Just a waste of time keeping him. I’d deal him at the deadline. We’re not going too and it’ll be a mistake.

Finally, Shanahan tries to get points before the half. Imagine if he did that in the Superbowl. Learning, I hope. Fields was throwing and beating our #24 all day long. Jimmy G should bring his family to every game- never saw him play any better.

He is now 2-4 and has just 3 passing tds, 7 ints, 8 fumbles and 26 sacks taken. He's been horrible so far.
@@AdamB34 If I can remember fields had 0 fumbles, his receivers did which were recovered. Interception was a tipped deep ball with a minute left. 175 passing yards is not bad considering the type of passes, field positions/momentum, and his rushing yards (103 yards, 10.3 YPA are game-changing numbers.) He threw a perfect TD pass, and made numerous perfect plays in situations which were drive eaters otherwise. You are using stats in previous games under a different HC and different playcalling, missing the point of comparison which makes your statement moot anyway. He played more than well enough to get the win today, and wasn’t horrible against a good green bay team either, multiple times shafted by officiating. You are clearly a biased observer.
It was good to see the niners remember how to play in that second half, they started looking like the team I know they are.

This was my first time at a Bears game. Ever though they lost, I still had a good time. I’m definitely going to try and go back to Solider Field before this season is over.
It looked like it was about 25% 49ers fans at the game. I was surprised by not only that, but the amount of empty seats throughout the stadium.

@@bomacion2507 I was at the game. The Bears were able to move the ball (only punted twice). The problem was they couldn’t put the 49ers away when they had the chance. They had two drives of 12 and 16 plays, each resulting in field goals. Those type of drives have to b for touchdowns to win games.
Two factors got them today: 1)giving up 85 yards on a 3 and 19 screen pass to their 1 yard line. 2) Zero sacks on Jimmy G, that was a killer.

@@bomacion2507 They were still moving the ball downfield, and nearly doubled time of possession. Multiple double digit play drives, 330 yards of offense. No turnovers till the very end. These factors more than not result in a win. You mentioned Fields’ rushing but discounted the 78 yards from Herbert. The offense did their jobs, the defense gagged after that 3rd and 19 play mid 3rd quarter.
It was a much better performance then the usual. This ones on the defense.
This was the first time Shanahan has led the team to victory after being down 7+ points in the second half of a game. I doubted they could do it. I am used to the Montana days when he/team were always a threat to make a comeback.

that 4th & 1 by Fields was amazing. This is why he got drafted. He was passing and using his legs. The defense of Chicago gave him no help today nor did the kicker. What a wasted effort. And that interception should have been caught by the wide out.

Just happened to revisit this looking up this week's matchup, man Fields was close to greatness in this game. Kmet dropped a TD. You could say Fields held onto the ball too long on that last sack, but Peters and Whitehair just completely failed, horrific job in crunch time. Looked like that last pass was in Mooney's hands, maybe it was broken up, it was underthrown but still in play. This team had no margin for error, and always made errors at critical times. I'm not apologizing for Fields, he had plenty of room for improvement, but he's really worked hard, it's noticeable that his release is quicker, his timing with his footwork is much more refined. I love the discipline I've seen in preseason, if it translates to regular season, games like this are winnable, there is no way they won't win more games this year. I'm also curious to see what the new D does to Trey, kid's looked pretty shaky to me, hoping they can get to that ball.
Also the Bears just looked tired in the fourth quarter.
