Gaming crossovers are so much fun. Modern games like Fall Guys and Fortnite dominate in this aspect, but games have been doing this for years. Mortal Kombat, Mario, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Transformers and Beyblade apparently? So let's dive into the wacky world of gaming crossovers.

THINK MARIO!
Real
Could you STOP giving so much attention to Fortnite in your videos, It's not nearly as funny as you think it is. Fortnite is obnoxious and one of those games that only exists to be meme-worthy and pandering to internet culture, gaming STILL has a bad reputation because of games like that and the sort of people who play them, stop giving meme trash so much love.
@@tylermontgomery3513 bruh
You probably play pubg
Because that’s a dead game
Time unlocks are actually pretty common in fighting games of the time, so it would incentivize you even more to keep coming back and see more new characters that weren't there the last time you visited the arcade. The most notable examples are probably MVC2 and SF4 but I can think of several. I like to think Mewtwo's unlock condition in Melee was an homage to the practice, even if it doesn't translate super well to a home console game.
Huh, interesting! I was not a big arcade goer so I never knew that LMAO
Probably their strats to increase their games' playtime to improve the marketing for these games, I guess
I remember as a kid trying forever to unlock Mewtwo 😅 me and my buddies finally came up with the ideal to leave the console on overnight in a stock match and we were super stoked the next morning when it worked!! Ill never forget that!
@@Aaronitmar will you do EVERY Victory Screen Reference in Smash Ultimate - Smash 4 Fighters Soon?
there is another big crossover game
LEGO Dimensions
with IPs like, DC Comics, Sonic the Hedgehog, Adventure Time, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Doctor Who, Portal, Scooby-Doo, Midway Arcade, The A-Team and more
aaron really had to tease us by showing a short clip of a lego sonic cutscene at the beginning of the video. i was so anticipated for him to talk about lego dimensions. even though it's such a massive crossover, and sometimes labelled as one of the best lego games on list rankings, i feel like it barely gets talked about. hopefully aaron can make a follow up video which includes lego dimensions
"Nothing can escape Fortnite"
Except Nintendo IPs apparently
Super Smash Bros. -> Street Fighter -> Fortnite
Nintendo wanted Samus to be in the game, but was scrapped because of Epic being pushy to be Samus available on all platforms like Kratos and Master Chief
@@jonmcintyre1144 More that Epic wanted Samus, but Nintendo were stingy about her appearing on other platforms despite Microsoft and Sony characters appearing on theirs all the time.
samus was THIS 🤏 close to being added if nintendo wasnt so stingy
@@devilsaur Nintendo really wanted Samus to be only viewable on Switch
Gaming crossovers are still some of the most goofiest things ever. Some noticeable ones that stick out to me is Danica Patrick, Wreck It Ralph and some of the TF2 cast being featured as playable charcaters in Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, pretty much all of the Fall Guys, Fortnite, and Super Smash Bros Collabs, Pac-Man in Street Fighter x Tekken, and Mario + Rabbids. We need more of these more often
Killer Instinct has some crazy crossovers. General Raam for GoW, Rash for Battletoads, Arbiter from Halo
I love crossover games and games with guest characters. Bringing two or more franchises together in fighting games, racing games, party games, platform games, etc.
And adding characters from a diffrent franchise is very cool. Who wouldn't like crossovers
There is a Crossover Game series that used to be Japanese Exclusive called Super Robot Wars where it's basically Fire Emblem but with Giant Robots sometimes Ships from different Animes and Mangas and they questioned & answered on how these Crossover happened like they made an ingame wiki just for World Building on how a bunch of Giant Robots from realistic to ridiculous exist in one World/Universe. And it's not even Flavor Text as it affects the story of the game as well.
Best part the characters Actually interact with other characters from a different series and form relationship with each other. And because of these characters from different Animes existing with each other their Narrative drastically changes because of it like Character deaths can be completely prevented or die much earlier than the anime and bad guys switch sides with the good guys.
Even get NEW Mecha Upgrades made specifically for the Game like in Super Robot Wars 30 one of the Roster is the new Code Geas movie and MC's mech in that movie is Incomplete like his Legs is missing but in SRW 30 they completed the mech and even give it a cool Purple and Gold Paintjob where as in the movie it's in Blue Paintjob.
@@teddyriggs1305 fire emblem with giant robots from diffrent animes and mangas?
@@gamerbro8399 yes and it is as awesome as it sounds
Not to mention the Attack Animations are just *chef's kiss* Beautiful Did you know they're the same devs who made ProjectXZone you know how amazing the attack animation in those games are right? well did I tell you that SRW have 1000x better Animations than that game like they went out of their way to make the attacks as Anime Accurate as Possible. Hell sometimes it's even better than the Anime.
Like you know in SRW T they have Cowboy Bebop right? Swordfish Spike's Ship has an Attack that literally uses the Cowboy Bebop intro. Shit is nuts and dumb af and I love it!
I feel like Aaronitmar would do great for going over games like Rivals of Aether or Capcom vs. Marvel of its things similar to how he went over everything that's in Smash, Nick Allstars, and MultiVersus
Also non fighting game ones, like Namco x capcom an srpg.
@fenniken5381 oh fr. Just crossovers off any kind really. I could relate cus the whole idea of expanding one's universe with that of others is pretty mind-boggling, especially iconic franchises.
@chamtheman551 speaking of, with how many fantasy stuff there is, I would love to see an srpg with those, fairy tail × reincarnated as a slime × magic knight rayearth, the possibilities are real. Sort of like how super robot wars is an ultimate crossover rpg for mecka stuff like gundam and such.
@@fenniken5381 Oh, if you like NxC then you will love Super Robot Wars. Nasically the idea is that if a work (because it doesn't even need to be an anime/manga) has an space battleship, a giant robot and/or a mechanical battlesuit, then it is free game to appear in one of the games. Hatsune Miku has appeared in at least one game.
@@fenniken5381 that's crazy
Thank you for briefly mentioning Disney Heroes Battle mode at 16:37 While there are many Disney crossover mobile games, Battle mode is by FAR the most extensive, featuring characters from most of their animated movies (including a surprising amount of Atlantis and Treasure Planet characters), as well as people from Pirates of the Carribean, Tron, almost Every Major Muppet, The Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus, the friggn' Rocketeer, and a large amount of Disney Television Animation representation, Including multiple reps from Gargoyles, Kim Possible. American Dragon Jake Long, and as of a few months ago, Eda from the Owl House. They even have friendship storylines that explore these crossovers further, so if you've ever wanted to see The Horned King team up with NegaDuck, Gonzo bond with fellow stuntman Duke Caboom (from Toy Story 4) or Anger and Joy from Inside Out act as emotional therapists for The Beast, this is the game for you!
Oh I've never even heard of that but that sounds cute as hell
Don’t forget how Ryu has also been with the power rangers
I love Crossover Games with a Story, you can see interactions that would just be impossible usually. Just imagine a "Motral Combat Ultimate" if you know what I mean. All guest once again. Would be cool to have a Terminator vs Alien or a Joker vs. Freddy Krueger.
There is enough crazy ass crossovers that can easily make a part 2 for this. Turoc appeared in a wrestling game in the 90s, NJPW wrestlers were in a Yakuza game a few years ago, Link and Spawn being playable in SoulCaliber II, almost every crossover that Dragalia Lost did in its short lifespan, Little Mac and Birdo appearing in Captain Rainbow, and so much more.
Not only Link and Spawn in Soulcalibur 2 but basically every Soulcalibur afterwards had one or two guest characters
I really like crossover games it's like a box of chocolates you don't know what you going to get
Some of it good chocolate, some not so much, some may be a mixed box that has differnt ones you dislike and you toss out while still eating the others and some you realize too late you spent too much money on a box of chocolate from a trusted and well liked provider you are really exited for, only to realise too late all the choccolates are trash and the makers are being scummy knowing they can charge more just because a lot of people like choccolate and like theyre chocolate that the makers think they can just shove whatever in a box and people will buy it and like it cuz of who made it, regardless of quality or price
@@moodyethan5514 hahahahahaha hahahahahaha hahahahahaha hahahahahaha so true
I'm surprised you didn't talk about Soul Calibur when taking about about Tekken (since they both made by Namco) because Soul Calibur games since the 2nd game had cross over characters.
Actually he already did in this video here look czcams.com/video/QFq7558x1JA/video.html
>Shows Lego Dimensions within 2 seconds of the video
>Doesn't talk about it once
Not very nice to the only crossover to truly rival Smash in terms of scope, content and attention to detail smh (then again, it could perhaps deserve a video all to itself...)
For anyone interested in playing it without having to spend a fortune, emulation for the toys-to-life element does exist for both consoles and PC emulators (not the Xbox versions though, but you could use NFC tags instead). For the best experience I suggest the PS4 version using the Raspberry Pi method as it is the highest quality version of the game and while there is a cost and some relatively easy technical work required, I would definitely say it's the best and least cumbersome way to play without having the actual portal and/or toys.
That's sad I LOVE Lego Dimensions not only does it have Sonic but also Midway games,Lego City Undercover (which had crossed with Mario LONG before LEGO Mario was a thing) but it has PORTAL! (the Portal series FIRST appearance on Nintendo console) You can also link this game with Smash cause Sonic has his moves from Smash in this game and his box says "Sonic's the name speed's my game" from Brawl
@angryjadengamerreviews2827 There's definitely a good selection of video game properties in LEGO Dimensions, though the video also takes into account crossovers of series not from video games and as I'm sure you know, in that realm Lego Dimensions is also one of the absolute best. Not only does it have video game characters like you mentioned but also characters from movies, shows, comics, books, and the game as a whole is based on a brand of toys. It truly stands out as a piece of crossover media, even these days where crossovers happen all the time but in very minimal and loose forms such as skins while Lego Dimensions sits there with a big crossover campaign, hub worlds for *all* 30 franchises, a ton of character interactions and more.
@@Polley001_ You're absolutely right there are a lot of awesome franchises in Lego Dimensions besides video games there's Powerpuff Girls, Adventure Time, Gremlins, E.T, Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters, Simpsons, Scooby Doo, Mission Impossible, Harry Potter, DC Universe, Lego Movie, Ninjago, Chima and SO MANY OTHERS mostly Warner Bros but some other major media corps as well Smash is NOTHING compare to this!
P.S After Dimesnions Lego's gaming brand is even bigger there's Minecraft, Angry Birds, Mario, Overwatch and of course Fortnite
P.P.S This game came out after Smash Wii U and before Ultimate and this game gave the Sonic series SO much more love then Smash did which is pathetic if you ask me. This is why I like this game more then Smash aside from the established IPS in the game that will probably never be in Smash. (Chase McCain and Chell are my Smash Bros. pipe dream characters)
LEGO Dimensions isn’t even in the same genre as Smash Bros. I should know, I’m one of the guys who still loves playing Dimensions and still talks about it to this very day.
If anything, I’d say MultiVersus is a successor to LEGO Dimensions considering they’re both Crossover games by the WB. And that game feels more like a worthy rival to Smash Bros.
Alright time to play six degrees of separation fictional character education!
TMNT Turtles was in a cross over fighting game own by Warner Bros. Now they are in Nickelodeon All Star Brawl own by Nickelodeon.
Plus, their own platform fighter made by Ubisoft crossed over with the Raving Rabbids
Crazy that various characters can travel to different universes so we can play as them. I love video game crossovers, it makes the game feel much bigger and seeing M rated characters interacting with E rated characters is something that's truly interesting. Sonic and All-stars Racing Transformed is probably my favorite.
Gaming crossovers are pretty incredible. 💫
lets not forget the most important crossover of all time: Hatsune Miku in Monster Hunter
Imagine every company collaborates with each other in the future
Negan is probably one of my favorite fictional characters ever. So seeing him in a game I also love was great. (Though I think he probably would fit better in Mortal Kombat)
There's still more to talk about! Remember when Darth Vader and Link were in Soul Calibur? Or when a Battletoad was in Killer Instinct!
And get me started with Mario, Luigi and Peach playing basketball in NBA Street V3 lol
Man, if you ever do a part three of this you should add Super Robot Wars to the list as well. Basically, Super Robot Wars is the ombination of the massive crossover idea of Smash Bros but with giant mechas (and lately, also space operas a battle suits as well) with the story and gameplay style of Fire Emblem. And yes, if a series has a giant robot, they will, sooner or later, join the fray.
I’m a big Mario fan and love playing other video games as well
14:27 That mech is the Tekken character Mokujin, who is a robot shaped like a wooden training dummy.
I remember ALL of these crossovers it was nice to see someone actually talk about them for once. My favorite crossover in this video is definitely Mario Sports Mix,Hoops 3 on 3 and Fortune Street I remember seeing trailers for those games on Nintendo Channel back then I REALLY wanted to play those but sadly I never got the chance (actually there's a LOT of Wii's games I wanted to play but didn't) keep making fun crossover videos Aaronitmar.
7:48 One day I want to see a crossover featuring Slime, Chocobo (RIP DQTact) _and_ SMT's Jack Frost.
12:53 Still not as weird as Pepsiman in Fighting Vipers (Japan only) and Angol Fear in SCIV who in spite of debuting in SCIV, was actually a Sgt Frog character.
Also Hornet in Fighters Megamix might be a Sega character but it's still so weird...
Cookie run kingdom is also one of theses games that got alot of collabs if you include EVERY one, But if you consider only the Major ones it would be only 4:
- Sonic For the 30th anniversary we're both Sonic and Tails are playable cookies
- Disney with 20 of they characters being included but only as guests
- BTS we're the entire band is playable and even having a limited rhythm game mode, BTS Concert,
And Brixity but only with exclusive theme decos
0:23 The Compati Hero franchise's Compati Sports subfranchise actually started out with the game 1991 Super Famicom game, Battle Dodgeball: Tokyuu Dai Gekitotsu!. _Freaking dodgeball!_ It featured the Gundam (Including the then SD Gundam-exclusive Knight Gundam), Kamen Rider, Ultraman and Mazinger franchises, as well as four original generation characters. Compati Sports was actually a spinoff of the Compati Hero franchise's Great Battle subfranchise starting with the 1990 Famicom game, SD Battle Ōzumō: Heisei Hero Basho which featured Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Gundam, Super Sentai (a franchise that is often notably missing from Compati Hero and in this case, it's only the giant robots and the villain Bio Hunter Silva) and Compati Hero's first original generation character, Great Kaminarimon who is one of the four in Battle Dodgeball: Tokyuu Dai Gekitotsu!
10:33 Not even the first fighting game Spawn was a guest character in lol
14:46 Toro and Kuro were actually NPC partner characters in PSO2JP you could only get the friend cards of on PSN but then you could bring them on missions when you play on Switch or PC (there was also an event exclusive Dengeki (PS magazine) Polytan NPC partner but he wasn't console exclusive). On the Switch you could also get a Breath of the Wild Link costume (for both male and female characters no less), Hylian Shield accessory and Master Sword weapon camo and the global release on Steam let you get a HEV suit costume, Heavy Minigun launcher camo and Pyro mask accessory. All of this stuff usable on _every_ platform. You can even use the Valve stuff while playing off of Epic Games LOL!
One of the first crossovers I noticed as a child were the crossovers in Soul Calibur with Link on the Gamecube or Darth Vader on the Xbox. It was funny to see Darth Vader being beaten up by someone with a stick.
Ben 10 met Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, & Aquaman in an official commercial (with their current voice actors at the time).
Those four where also in Lego Dimensions with Sonic the Hedgehog.
Then Sonic is in Smash with Ryu.
Fun fact: if you work at security at a Samsung store you will be a guardian of the galaxy
Mortal combat cross overs are not weird. There cool and impossible and their some of the most iconic characters in pop culture like joker, alien robocop, predetor and many more. these are franchises you would never have thought to crossover with mortal kombat but netherelm and WB made it happen
how did he not mention DBD, it’s the literal horror version of smash
Soul Calibur's another franchise I always think of when it comes to crossovers. Everyone knows about Link in SC3 for the GameCube, as well as Spawn on the XBox version and Heihachi on the PS2.
SC4 had Star Wars characters -- Darth Vader, Yoda, and an unlockable Starkiller -- as well as a "reskin" character named Angol Fear, who had direct ties to Sergeant Frog.
Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia appeared in SC: Legends, while Kratos appeared in Broken Destiny about two years before Mortal Kombat 9 appeared.
SC5 brought in Ezio Auditore, which I find funny when you think about the fact that Ezio's VA, Roger Craig Smith, also voices Siegfried in Soul Calibur as well. (Bonus points if you already knew that Custom Characters had exclusive access to Devil Jin's moveset.)
And most recently, SC6 had Geralt from The Witcher in the base roster, with Season Passes bringing in 2B from Nier: Automata and Haomaru from Samurai Showdown.
And that's not even including all the Custom Characters costume pieces you can acquire as well (or piece together with your own imagination; seriously, the community in Soul Calibur can put together characters you wouldn't expect to see or think are possible).
Don't forget that SNK and its King of Fighters series are actually a crossover series, combining characters for all its classic games (Athena, Ikari Warriors, Psycho Soldier, Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting) into a fictional fighting tournament 😊
Neat!! The real king of Crossovers!! 0:25
17:00 Another win for the og
Taking down the sweets
the impostors among us...
Crossover games are like when you put your favorite toys together to go on such an incredible imaginative adventure.
Dont forget about Sonic & Allstars Racing Transformed in which they include Wreck- It Ralph A Disney character in the game and its the ONLY title for Disney to crossover a Video game title since it make sense since he is BASED on a video game character anyways.
Spider-Man default dance joke is unhinged I love it
There are still lots of crossover fighting games out there to see. BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Nitro + Blasterz, and J-Star Victory VS+, just to name a few.
Can I also mention how Sonic And Sega All-Stars Racing had Banjo and Kazooie as playable characters in the Xbox 360 version? Hell, Transformed had Wreck-It Ralph, the TF2 Heavy, and even Danica Patrick be playable!
12:54 bro was sweating saying his name
Wow Aaron, you really had to tease us with some footage of lego Sonic from LEGO Dimensions. You got me thinking you were gonna have an entire section of the video talking about lego dimensions lol I don't why, but I just feel like the game is barely talked about, despite it being such as a massive crossover, and being ranked as one of the best lego games on ranking lists on the internet. Hopefully u can make a follow-up video talking about more video game character crossovers / video games _about_ crossovers, including LEGO Dimensions.
I'm getting nostalgia from Clayfighters. I'm a Taffy main myself
Another series that has a good ammount of crossovers is SoulCalibur. The Legend of Zelda, Spawn, Tekken, Star Wars, Nier, The Witcher, etc
Just remember, not all fight games should be subjected to crossovers.
After all, you don't want to see Goku in a Virtua Fighter game, much less 2B in Smash.
Let's not forget the soulcalibur franchise, specifically with 2, 4, 5, and 6
-SC2 had Heihachi from Tekken (PS2), Spawn from his comics (Xbox) and Link from Legend of Zelda (Gamecube)
-SC4 had Darth Vader, Yoda and videogame original Starkiller from Star Wars
-SC5 had Ezio Autidore from Assassin's Creed 2
-SC6 had 2B from Nier: Automata, making it her first fighting game appearance
I love Rambo and seeing the trailer introducing him to MK was the coolest
Great video :) wish the Dissidia final fantasy series was hinted at though
Your transitions were on point this video
Oh yeah, Touhou characters appeared alongside Kirby, which, considering Super Smash Bros, makes immeasurable connections
Very cool!
I still love that Noctis and Negan are in Tekken 7. I’m going to keep playing that even when Tekken 8 comes out just for them
God, I love Mario Slam Basketball (that's how Mario Hoops 3-On-3 was called here in Europe).
No mention of the perfect crossover?
Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright!
Mario hoops and sports mix are my favorite mario sports games.
Project X Zone 2
You want crossovers?
Look no further than Rivals of Aether's workshop. God damn its the multiverse if the community made it.
Wow I saw a copy of that dragon quest Mario de game at my local retro store yesterday shame I didn’t buy it now
Kinda surprised you didn't mention terraria or monster hunter. Monster hunter had over 100 across the series, some of which being pizza hut, hatsune miku, mario, link, samus, sonic, final Fantasy, the witcher, horizon zero dawn, and a bunch of capcom characters since mh is from capcom.
I'm gonna be very honest, it really bothers me how most people just boil down Street Fighter X Tekken to just "On-disc DLC" and "Pay-to-Win Gems" when the game is a very well-made tag-based crossover fighting game with a lot of passion and production values put into it.
Wow I can’t believe he got the real spider man must have been what he spent all that sponsorship money on 😂
Super Robot Wars should be one of the most legendary crossovers in ALL of gaming!!!
To 14 year old artists: Stop giving Mario a turtleneck.
Pls and ty.
I remember when angry birds epic and sonic dash had a crossover
4:57 🗿
I have no words but it’s a glorious sight
Also sports mix made me think slime was from final fantasy as a kid. But sports mix was top 2 wii games (weird how the sports games on the wii are the actual fun and more popular ones and not like Mario party9... oh wait)
Aaromiter citing Tokusatsu is wild
I love Ryu from Streets. Who else doesn't love water without any ice?
Lego Dimensions mention
VERY underrated crossover game IMO
How did they go through an entire video about gaming crossovers and not include a single mention of shovel knight
Holy shit you got SPIDERMAN ON THIS??? Huge congrats dude
Do they have plans to transform all comic crossovers & IDW crossovers into video game crossovers or animated movies?
I feel like Ryu, what Mario would be if Nintendo wasn't so stingy.
The Fortnite > Horizon Zero Dawn > Genshin > Star Rail Would've been perfect as a Sponsor Transition
no mention of mario kart or it’s many clones
I agree since MK had SOME non Mario universe characters in the series:
MKDS had R.O.B.
Mario Kart 8 had Link (SWS design), Villager(Male and Female) and Isabelle.
MK8D had ONLY just the Inklings(Boy and Girl) with Link's BotW design as a free update.
Another character that's crossed over a lot is Joker from Persona 5.
Now we need Darkstalkers X Final fantasy
Watch a super realistic Yuji Itadori pop up as a guest character in Tekken 8.
A couple things
1: to make it go longer, you could do, Elmo, Kermit, Jack Skellington, Sora and Ryu! So you know! Smash and Disney
2: BUt the main thing, you showed fighting games mainly, it would've been nice of you if you counted other franchises.
The warriors Series like Warriors Orochi or Warriors all stars is a perfect example of this! Cause well you knoW THey are crossovers too
Nice video
Of you do another one of these, give a shout out the kaiju party fighting game, Gigabash, mostly because the DLC gives us the golden opportunity to pit Godzilla against Ultraman
This guy has lost his insanity
Yokai watch crossed over with Final Fantasy before
Damn, btw there’s some wrong information here, I’m pretty sure the first Mario game with a final fantasy character was Mario rpg, when you open the black door and meet culex, from final fantasy
The bonus Culex boss fight was inspired by the Final Fantasy series, but Culex itself is not an actual character in any FF game.
No mention of the Soul Calibur series or Project X Zone?
"Project X Zone" still got a mention when he was talking about all of Ryu's games.
Honestly if anyone asked me what game I’d think of today when hearing crossover are gacha games. It’s like one of the main events of many gacha to gain attention and influxes of new players. Also Ehrgeiz should be pronounced airgice.
Yes
2:22 "When you think of crossovers, the first thing that probably comes to your mind is fighting games."
That is SOOOO wrong because Fortnite is the first one that comes to mind (For me at least)
0:07 ttt2 was my favorite 3:00 well old school 3d 10:02 the first time you're talking about mk toasty 12:24 YES YES YES 😆 13:12 ah seeds here we go agian 14:32 great is the super fatest robot mugaman 15:01 who da het is that 15:55 the games that have ulala from space channel f***ing 5 and chrom from fire emblem and fiora from xenoblade
I'm sure there will be more in 2024 or later years.
Fun fact: earth is the biggest planet in the world
An entire video about videogame crossovers and shovel knight wasn't mentioned once?
I ❤ your channel
I Love Mario hoops 3 on 3.
