  • Well, I got to borrow the boat and then I ran it over some rocks.
    It only chipped the skeg but it was enough to make me feel pretty bad about it. So, today I plan on making it right and fixing it with the wonder product called JB Weld.

      When you mess something up that is what you do. My buddy lets me borrow it and I try my best to treat it like my own. Fyi- the repair has held up to this day.

    Minor damage to our Skeg over Labor Day Weekend...for sure your video and method are outstanding...applying the same principle and technique to mine starting this afternoon!

    Super glue and baking soda works even better. Sets up fast and holds forever. I repaired a boat i bought 4 years ago and its still holding strong.

    I'm looking to repair my outdrive so I've been watching vidoes... I seen other say you have to etch parts that show bare aluminum & some say add something called iodine or similar name, or 50/50 mix of vinegar & water, marine primer before putting on top coat. I'm curious why you didn't do any of that, are you familiar with those chemicals/products & their purpose if so why weren't they required in your situation?

    • @B_the_Cameraman
      @B_the_Cameraman  Před 4 lety +2

      This repairs was to some small Nick's in the skeg. I cleaned it with alcohol and that was it. JB weld is extremely strong and I didn't think it was necessary

    I just hit one yesterday in the gulf, wish I could upload a picture of it on here to see if its to far damaged, mine was about the same like yours but took off about a half inch, now it looks like this 6 inch gap on the skeg, all 3 fins got damaged on the prop too.

    • @B_the_Cameraman
      @B_the_Cameraman  Před 4 lety +1

      That may be too far gone. But you can cake the Marine weld on it and keep building it up and then sand it. Worst case scenario is you are out some time and jb weld.

    • @ThePerfectSeason1972
      @ThePerfectSeason1972 Před 2 lety

      @ Gerald smulevich- the skeg housing is Made out of Aluminum- it’s better if it’s welded with a mig welder. In this example it is purely a cosmetic repair. Unfortunately, skegs are always hitting stuff in the water.
