  • Here it is... My experience working at Sephora and why I QUIT!!! Please LIKE, COMMENT, & SHARE!!!
    Side Note & Important Detail --- I was employee of the month, one month before I quit working there.. Kinda shows that how hard I worked there especially because I was Sephora inside JCPenney and I got employee of the month out of all 60+ employees at JCP AND was part-time! Just makes the whole thing even worse and more confusing! LOL

    The sad thing is that 99% of the time when a female seems to dislike you for 'no reason' it's because of their own insecurities and jealousy. Period. You're wasting your time trying to analyze this kind of behaviour, if you're being kind it's their problem, not yours.
    It doesn't surprise me that this pretty blonde had this experience with another female.

    I worked at a mall Starbucks across from Sephora. I've done makeup my entire life not only for myself but for others too. I applied for Sephora and they not only threw my application out on spot, I couldn't even introduce myself to the manager. 6 months past and the manager came to get coffee one day and she said "have you ever thought of applying at Sephora? Your eye makeup is prettier than half of my girls" I politely told her the story and declined her offer.

      That's awesome for you. Working there would have been a mistake, and it's awesome you got the chance to *decline them back.* lol!
      On a side note, was it an employee or a manager that threw out your application? It's illegal to deny someone the chance to apply, and I don't believe it's legal for them not to submit it to the appropriate hiring authority. Something to keep in mind. :)

    • @butlera840
      @butlera840 Před 7 lety +118

      It was someone that wasn't a manager and who worked on the floor. They were basically like your hours won't work for us sorry. I was flexible, if they had interviewed me they would have known.

    • @SLH_2007
      @SLH_2007 Před 7 lety +159

      No matter who it is, denying someone the opportunity to submit an application is (for our state anyway) illegal. Now, if they take it, give it to the hiring authority, and they toss it in the bin, that's fine. But if they either deny you that chance or throw it away before turning it in, that is something your state's workforce commission would want to hear about. It's definitely a liability for them if their employees are doing that.
      Good luck elsewhere though!

    Never allow even one incident or rude comment from a boss or another coworker. If you do, it'll continue until You quit or You get fired. Pull them aside and sweetly ask them, "have I offended you somehow?" When they say No, why? Answer, "because you seemed upset." They'll be embarrassed and quickly retreat.

    I have to tell you about my experience in Sephora. I am an older woman who is in a wheelchair. I went into a Sephora for the first time and was pretty excited because I had never been in the store. I was well dressed had makeup on and had purple streaks in my gray hair (which I got complaiments on all the time.) I went in to find something specific and having never been in there needed help. I had people who worked there walk around me to avoid me, turn around and walk away when they saw me. I have never been treated so rudely anywhere. I wrote an email to the company. Got an email back saying they would speak with the manager and someone would get back with me. Couple of days went by I heard nothing. So I sent another email got another email back saying about the same thing but they would have the manager contact me. Emails went back and forth for a month. I never did hear from the manager and I finally I gave up. I will never go back into a Sephora store. The really sad thing is I was coming out of a deep depression and makeup is the one thing that helped. My youngest daughter got me back into using makeup and to be treated that way really hurt. I wont be involved with a company that treats customers that way.

    This is a very good example of why, when you have a positive experience at a store, you should *WRITE TO THE COMPANY AND TELL THEM IMMEDIATELY*. Specifically tell them the name of the person and what they did. Go to the company's website and write the message DIRECTLY TO THE COMPANY - *DO NOT* give the message to anyone in the store itself, because it may magically end up in the garbage can before anyone sees it. Do NOT call the store and tell them (you can do that, too, but a phone call to the store should never replace writing to the company directly). This gives good employees the ammunition to fight back when someone treats them unfairly (like "Katie"), and it's impossible for anyone they work with to intercept the message and make sure it's never heard or seen. People only think to do this when something goes wrong… You should be doing it when something goes RIGHT, too.

    • @kumada84
      @kumada84 Před 8 lety +15

      As for the raise issue: Any time you think you're entitled to a raise, you need to make sure you're told (preferably in writing) that you're going to be getting a one and _exactly_ when the raise will begin, so everyone is clear (and, more importantly, so they know YOU know). If you're being expected to do a job that entitles you to a raise and you have already discussed this with your employer and a date has been set, you have every right to NOT DO THE WORK until you're being paid for it. Your employer cannot expect you to donate your time and expertise.
      Unfortunately, unless you either have written proof that you were offered a raise or there's something in your contract that specifies that you're to receive one, there's really nothing you can do after the fact. It can be argued that your continuing to work without receiving the raise is equivalent to your agreeing not to get it.
      BTW, always remember: People only care about themselves.

      That and the fact that this world is so negative and these small acts of affirmation are what keep people going. We all need to go out of our way to encourage others and express our appreciation for their good qualities and service. As an ex-retail worker, (who was publicly shamed, bullied and degraded by my assistant manager) I always try to build up any positive employees I encounter as a customer. It's not hard to do and it means so much. As a customer, assume/pretend that your encouraging words are the only positive feedback an employee will receive on the job. Make it your mission to give that gift to other workers.

      So, I had a sort of similar story about sephora giving me something, and taking it back. They offered me a permanent position. When I came into fill out paperwork I brought my passport because I had just moved and misplaced my social security card. The manager that hired me asked why I didn't bring my social security card and said to come back the next day with it. I told her I had always brought passports and that it is proof of both residency and shows i can legally work in the US. She said she hadn't heard of it and got really defensive. The next day before I returned she called and said she could no longer offer my the permanent position because she had to start hiring seasonal positions. So she offered me that position with a pay decrease. I was furious because I no longer had a stable job and I had already quit my other job. I sent an email to corporate. Sephora corporate didn't respond but instead forwarded it to her. I don't know what else they sent to her but she apologized. And by apologize her words were, "I'm sorry you didn't bring your social security card." Despite how hard I worked, and how well I knew the products she treated me terribly my whole time there. Needless to say they didn't hire me after the season. So talking to corporate doesn't always work....

    As an almost 40 year old who has worked many different jobs, the reason these women are being dicks is because they're jealous. It sucks, and I hate it. I work with a woman who is a total knockout, and most of the people we work with are rude to her because of it. She's super sweet, works her ass off, and is an all around amazing human, but you can see the jealousy from our other coworkers. It would be so amazing if we as women could be kinder to each other. Glad that you're doing better now.

    I've been in retail since 16. Started out at the bottom and now work for Gucci. Retail truly is one of the most difficult jobs. Management isn't hired based on education, but sales ability. Thusly, many managers are promoted for their shark-like tactics, instead of leadership skills. With poor leadership, everything else evolves into a nightmare.
    Basically, everything wrong with retail can be summed up with capitalism(working on holidays, poor hours, competition, just to make the company more money), young employees(immaturity), overall rudeness of the public, and a lack of dedicated employees who just see retail as a stepping stone.
    Also, cosmetics tend to attract certain types of not so pleasant people. I never knew such awful human beings existed until I worked in cosmetics. Not to be sexist, but workplace politics are entirely different when working with all women. The things I've seen women do to one another in a "professional" setting is truly shocking.

      I almost always only buy stuff from Sephora online, but there has been a couple times I ran out of brow pencil or one time I shattered my foundation bottle in my make up bag, and was desperate and needed to run into the one at my mall, and I went in with zero makeup, and a messy bun, and a sweatshirt, and I swear the second I walked in the employees looked at me like I was going to steal and followed me around with a glare on their face. The best part was when I went up to pay at the register they saw I was Rouge status, then the cashier was super friendly to me lol. I’ve NEVER been treated like that at ulta. I actually love going inside a brick and motor ulta because the store is way more inviting and fun to look around in. I try to shop at ulta instead of Sephora whenever I can.

    Working there was the most defeating, degrading environment I️ have ever been in.
    Looking back, I️ should have filed a complaint and got my beauty advisor and my SEC fired for how they treated me (and STILL treat their employees).

      @PinkPoodleCrafts Před 8 lety +28

      I get that you're young and if I can teach you one thing, being 43 myself.. its to never back down from what you know is right... if something isnt right at anyplace you work, with a manager, assistant manager or etc, go above them if you cant get results from dealing with them directly. If you are a good employee with good work ethics (getting to your job on time, only taking the allowed breaks, not calling out all the time, etc) then go above them and talk to THEIR manager. You should never let anyone belittle you or make you to feel like your work environment is hostile or ever have a manager treat you like "they dont like you". THAT is unprofessional and they need to be reported. Obviously make sure its something worth fighting for and of course make sure you first try and confront the person you have the problem with before you go above them. So if you go to the person and talk to them about how you're being treated and that does nothing, then yeah, its time to go above them. But your managers are supposed to support their employees and not treat them like shit. It sounds like she was far to young and had too much of an ego to work at that job and in that position. Keep your head up and hey... start working on a plan to open your own shop or get into professional makeup artistry and work as a independent contractor. I always encourage young smart women to move towards doing something of their own. You're only going to get so far working for others and get paid just to help THEM (the company) make more money, screw that... start learning now how to get educated to make your own mark in life... its a lot easier than you think to do your own thing. Dont get stuck working for other people your whole life... I promise you will thank me later (maybe not for real but in your head lol) Sorry for the long rant! Good luck!

    If you love makeup and would like a job in makeup, then I would definitely tell you to continue looking into a job at Sephora. You get a lot of valuable work experience.. Like I said, this was just MY awful experience and my only issue with Sephora (and why I titled this video "why I quit Sephora") is that it has the tendency to create, for lack of a better word, catty work environments. I put this video out there for people to recognize these catty and unprofessional work environments and challenge themselves to take a look at their own work situations and deem whether or not they are being treated fairly! I was obviously not treated fairly, so that's why I quit! And for those of you asking, I did go to higher authority with all these situations, don't worry :)

    • @DeathValleyDebbie
      @DeathValleyDebbie Před 8 lety +14

      It sounds like what is deemed a "hostile work environment" and is actually illegal. I had jobs like you describe with the "catty" work experience when I was your age. Not makeup related either... I just think some people are very intimidated by younger, successful, good looking, and people that just do their job well. It's a reflection of their own self hate. I say next time you have a situation like this go straight to HR. Sephora, especially in JC Penny's is a bureaucratic system (aka nightmare), but the great thing is you have strict rules that you can use against them. Har is your friend. Chalk it up to lesson learned, but you could still contact headquarters about your bad experience and find out if you are owed that back pay. Or you can decide to let it go. Off to better jobs!

      I've had a bad experience working at a retail chain store and quitting after ONE WEEK at this store after working for the SAME CHAIN (different location) very happily and respected/appreciated for over 2 years... It definitely can vary by store based on management and other employees, also sometimes even different customer bases in different areas can affect your experience. I'm so sorry you had to go through this, but I'm so proud to see at your young age you're still able to see the value of the company as a whole. I never harbored resentment toward the parent company of the store I had a bad manager experience at, but I didn't EVER shop at that particular location again. So glad you got out of this negative experience and shared this. Possibly consider writing a review of that particular location on glassdoor.com - I've heard many friends saying they wish they'd listened to the negative reviews read there before taking positions because similar things happened to them after they took jobs!! If enough former employees complain, the company may see a pattern and a trend in turnover, and fix the management situation!! Way to be part of the solution!!

      I think ppl who hate ppl for no reason are proof that demons exist. they must be possessed. who knows what things they do for money outside of working with you. they might have a back up job like prostitution or stripping or even black magic just to ask demons or the wrong ppl for money. there are so many ppl I've met who are like that. I know what you mean.even at church. there are kids who think they're Christians just bcz they're born and raised christian but didn't say the Lord's prayer. not always but a lot of times those are the ones who are mean. I've been around enough of them long enough to know. I've noticed the pattern. those ppl just need to be simply prayed for. I also think you should go up with a simple gesture of simpothy for the girls who didn't like you and I think all they need is someone to have some compassion for them. they're probably just hurting or something or struggling with their rent.

    A lot of people will hate you because they look at you and see an attractive young woman. Not considering you may have a whole heap of issues and demons that you battle on your own that may make you "relate-able" to them. Most people cannot see pass the surface and its easy to say: "oh, just ignore them", its hard to ignore the hate when you feel the vibe so strongly. It's definitely something you should not be around. I'm sorry for your struggles and hope that you done have to experience pettiness like this ever. You are a magical being that was wonderfully made. I wish you lots of love and happiness.

    I hate saying this but work environments where there are a lot of girls of the same younger age tend to be toxic. I used to work for a financial company and my manager would only hire females in their early-mid 20's. She did this because young girls are vulnerable and she wanted to manipulate us into competing with each other and backstabbing each other. I rose above it but the other girls on my team would harass me, call me ugly, say I'll never have a boyfriend, make me do their work and then tell my manager I was lazy and did nothing all day. It was the most toxic environment ever and it was supposed to be a professional one. I'm a nanny now because I hate working with other people and dealing with drama. I go to work to work and if you don't like me, I at least expect you to be professional towards me.

And they did it, because THEY COULD.

    so many sephoras have stuck up employees. I've had many bad experiences.. one that was recent was, at the one near me the manager kept following me around, thinking I was stealing I assume.. and I was holding a Becca Pearl highlight, thinking of purchasing, then I changed my mind and put it back and she literally walked up and said "hi can I help you? are you looking for a bronzer or highlight? " and I was like "yes, but no thank you I'm OK" and she goes "well, where's the Becca highlight you were holding? " I snapped back "it's over there, would you like me to show you??? " what a bitch. I felt so small, I was so mad. I wanted to go and buy a bunch of shit then to throw it in her face, but I didn't want to give them a penny at the same time. love sephora makeup dislike *most* of the employees.

      Omg. Same experience!! Had someone following me around and I felt like they thought I was stealing. I was looking around to buy some stuff. I had a Marc Jacobs eyeliner, and a Sephora gel eye liner I was holding to purchase, but was still shopping. Finally the guy that followed me came up and said here's a basket. If you want to buy something you HAVE to put it in your basket. Or actually do you want me to just put it up there until you're ready. This was a JCPenny Sephora--- so it was SUPER small!! I went to check out and just bought those two things even though I wanted more, but I was so sick of being stalked and treated like I was going to rob them! And, to top that off I had the same two girls coming over like every 2 mins asking if I needed help or needed something after telling them multiple times I was just looking and if I did I would ask them. The whole time I felt like shit and was given dirty looks! Horrible experience. I love Sephora but the people are just so rude!

      That's worth reporting to management. Sadly, not all care, as comments here illustrate; there are too many retail establishments that have crap staff who bring shame to their companies who may otherwise be decent... I mean, the Sephora where I live (just one in my city) is great, though there are sometimes less great employees, they don't tend to last. Management seems responsive, though. Then again, I don't work there!).
      Even if they suspect you of shoplifting, that's not the appropriate way to approach someone - not that I've ever heard of! Many cities have security and they are requested to intervene in such cases...
      Honestly, reading your story, I could imagine too easily how embarrassing and humiliating that would be. Unacceptable.
      OMG! Just reread your starting line... That was the MANAGER?! HOLY... NO. Just, NO.
      I'm always the one who thinks of things I wished I'd said... 20 minutes later! Like "I'm sure you have security footage. Why don't you go review it where you'll see me putting it back on the shelf after deciding not to buy it today. Further, I won't be buying it ever at this store based on the way you've just humiliated me without reason or proof right now!"
      That's what I'd wished I'd say in such a situation, but be too upset at the moment to manage more than polite replies to a rude staffer... I think what you *did* say was really good, good for you for being dignified in such a nasty encounter!
      You might be able to find out who the regional manager is and report that manager to them. Otherwise you could find the contact info for corporate online and tell them. You can even email it to them directly at one of those head offices and they'll route it for you... I know it might not seem worth it, but imagine how many other people she does that to who don't feel able to speak up for themselves! So wrong.
      Sorry for the rant... These things just make me so frustrated and angry that people are treated so poorly! Boo. :(

      First the posting of the complaint is unacceptable and could be considered hostile work environment! Should have called corporate employee relations. Also should have called about the pay raise depending on what the company policy says completely unacceptable behavior out of management. If policy states they are to change your pay after certification you should have recieved at next pay period or at least given you back pay of difference.

      Ild love to know as well! Im going to fb and see where she might live and thatll be enuff info to know which Sephora. I was a consultant for Estee Lauder and am an aestition/makeup artist and I would NEVER have tolerated that from any of my stores. I agree with you all and im pretty sure you are younger than I, but trust and believe women are the WORST to other women for no reason other than jealousy and insecurities! I used to think it was a young woman's cross to bear until we all become adults.....WRONG!! Sadly, the ONLY difference between this behavior when we are younger is it actually gets worse! Why? Because now they know better how to REALLY punch the buttons faster and more cruel! I will never understand why women treat each others so disrespectful, abusive and hurtful.....Im embarrassed for these kind of girls because clearly their insecurities give them permission to put other down to feel better about themselves. Sorry so long but being older, I have countless stories I experienced and its just NOT OK? Whatever happen to lending a hand to help and lift up one another rather than pushing and stepping on others? I dont know if Kiki will see this but in case no one said this to you...im sorry for how you were treated and you Def did not deserve what treatment you received. One thing is for sure, you may have lost that job but now you know what to watch out for plus, in retrospect I know in time you will see it was probably for the best! Nothing worse than a bully is a bully who smile to your face all the while devising ways to get at you! Clearly, nice to your face or not, this would have never gotten better! So hold her beautiful self up and go grab whatever makes you happy in a place where respect is given to all the employees! Ild hire you in a heartbeat and would be proud to have you be a representative that reflects positivity in my business! 💝

    Coming a business perspective, you should of asked for a copy of the "changed" policy and if they won't give it to you bring it to the HR and corporate. Once you write a letter, they will send out secret shoppers or secret employers to investigate. This sounds a lot more like an ethical issue and she can lose her job. She decided that she didn't like you and treated you that way. Just remember that before they try to empower you, you have every right to fight for it. Ask for documents, proof, etc. If they can't provide you any then bring this to HR. I'm sure the company Sephora doesn't want bad management this will drive their sales down. I'm so sorry that you went through that. I recommend that you still write a letter to corporate to express your experiences and feelings.

    Go to your higher ups. If its your assistant manager, go to the manager, and if you truly feel they are both in on it then you need to go to higher ups in the company such as the GM and and your Human Resources person and tell them about all of this. You don't need to go to your manager first. You can go straight to human resources. I had an assistant manager who was a literal devil to me for about a week (lol) - I went to my HR person and they were fired within two weeks when I had only been working there for 7 months and they had been there 3 years. Being unprofessional shines a dirty light on your company and no one in the higher ups likes that.

    It's really heartbreaking to hear how employers still don't understand the value of treating their employees correctly and implementing positive work environments for them. Starbucks is still considered retail and their employees rarely complain because they are paid well, have greta benefits offered and its a positive work environment. I really wish all employment could step their game up especially sephora. Sephora truly is an amazing retailer but the way I have seen them treat their employees horribly shows by their work ethic most of the time and makes it and unpleasant shopping experience for the customer, I've seen it and experienced it myself even when getting my make up done. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

      I had a manger (worked at a coffee shop) literally cause a dozen long time employees to quit in the span of a year just for being a piece of shit human being.
      There was one girl who was a senior in high school who said she wanted to work only on the weekend because she had a lot of homework and needed to invest more time in school. The manager was like "well I'll see what I can do but we need someone to work it." (we had 25-30 employees and only 2 people needed to work the night shift) and then in what i can only assume is out of spite started scheduling her 4pm-11pm every weeknight and then was sooo surprised when this girl quit and got another job that had a more accommodating schedule.
      Told another girl who booked off vacation time months in advance (and was approved by another manager) that she'd have to cancel her holidays because the schedule would be too hard to write if she wasn't working (again 25-30 employees she just couldn't be arsed to rearrange a couple people) and again was so surprised that she was like "ok well then I quit."

    +Kiki Chanel I'm so sorry you had to work in such a hostile environment. I've been in two Sephora's in my entire life, and I'm forty. Both experiences were horrible! The staff was inconsiderate, rude, and lazy. The first Sephora I tried was a stand alone store. I knew exactly what I wanted, and when I went to grab it there was a young woman(early twenties) looking at the Urban Decay foundation. She was completely lost. She said she'd asked for help, but has been waiting more than 20 minutes. We were the only two customers in the store! I use the same foundation, and explained the color system, if it has a .5 after the decimal point it's cool toned, if it's a .0 it's for warmer skin tones. Anyway, I showed her how to color match on neck, decided on a color, and went to check out. I was pissed. I told the girls at the register how unprofessional, immature, and rude they were. They did not apologize! They told me that I'm not an employee, so I shouldn't be helping customers!pt.1

    • @willarosesoaps6090
      @willarosesoaps6090 Před 8 lety +6

      Pt.2 I was aghast! I'm a physician, so I deal with difficult people every day, but this was inexcusable behavior! I dressed her down quickly, but efficiently. She was crying?! Apparently, they aren't used to people who won't tolerate such distain towards others. I asked for the number of an offsite supervisor. I didn't think it would result in any changes, but she did return my call. Surprisingly, this ring leader was terminated. The other Sephora I visited was in a JC Penny. It was not as horrendous as the other store, but again, I was not greeted, or communicated with, in any way. I left, and have never, and will never return. I shop at my local ULTA, which I love. I'm in there so much they know my name, phone number, and the items I stock up on every 3-4 months. Their rewards program is amazing. I'm a platinum member, so I earn 3x the points on any purchase, as apposed to 1 point, for a standard member. They also offer platinum members 5x the points on certain products...

    • @willarosesoaps6090
      @willarosesoaps6090 Před 8 lety +7

      +WillaRose Soaps pt3 on all products. Platinum rewards NEVER expire, and you can earn points on anything, as well as spend them on anything, except services. Last Christmas I had over $1000 in free money. It's worth it. I check my "special benefits" everyday. A week ago I stocked up on Philosophy products, because it was BOGO 50% off, and 5x platinum points. I earned over 2000 points, or $200, in that trip alone. September is going to be an amazing month for sales, and earning points. If you haven't signed up, do it. Sephora just isn't worth it.
      Sincerely,
      Heather

    I hate walking into Sephora. Note I’m a professional makeup artist I really should’ve just bought MAC products with my Mac Pro card but there’s just some products I like at Sephora.
    The last time I walked into a sephora was when I was a first time new mom who needed to get out of the house. I wasn’t wearing makeup that day with my new baby (I honestly didn’t care I had postpartum depression and needed to restock on some products that I loved to make me feel better)
    A sales associate approached me and asked if I needed help and I said no thank you I’m a makeup artist.
    She looked me up and down and said “yeah sure you are” in the snottiest attitude I’ve ever heard and walked away. I was incredibly embarrassed and upset maybe hormonal too but It took everything in me not to cry while picking out my products.

    A few things.
    1. The 10 extra gratis denial was crap. Very unprofessional on their part. If you promise it then you follow through on it.
    2. The assistant manager that was always rude to you. Did you ever speak to her about it or bring this up with the manager? You are a very pretty person. Perhaps your beauty made her feel inferior. You said you know a lot about make up. Maybe you knew more than she did and that also made her uncomfortable. Either way, she should have behaved better.
    3. I don't think your asst manager was intentionally trying to be rude when she made the comment when you were doing the bridesmaid's makeup. She was giving you a compliment. You stated earlier that you usually give people a basic make over unless they ask for something specific. I don't think she was trying to be rude. It sounds like not only did you did a great job but you did something other than your usual go to look.

    • @stingstungme
      @stingstungme Před 8 lety +22

      4. Your friend Katie was screwed over. That should have NEVER happened.
      There should have been a private discussion in an office between Katie
      and management concerning that negative survey. It should have NEVER
      been highlighted and taped to the registers for all to see. I would have
      bypassed Sephora management and gone straight to upper management in
      JCPenney.
      The comment about another store is hiring was rude.
      5. If you were certified and were eligible for a pay raise, you should have gotten it on your next paycheck. Not May or a few months later.
      They owe you money.

    • @stingstungme
      @stingstungme Před 8 lety +19

      Sorry for this being so long.
      Lastly, as someone who worked in retail for way too long before switching fields, I know people will try to test you.
      For you it was taking away your f gratis and not getting your pay raise.
      It doesn't matter if you are new hire. Stick up for yourself. People will try to see how far they can you push you before you break.
      If they realize you won't tolerate their crap or you know the rules, they will be hesitant to mess with you in the future.
      You can stick up for yourself, put people in their place without cursing or getting violent. Been there. Done that.
      They owe you money. Go get it. =D

If she had a problem with the basic looks she did on her clients, she should have pulled her aside and addressed it instead of handling it the way she did. That could have resulted in the rest of the bridal party not wanting to have their makeup done by her. That was a backhanded compliment at best

    I am so sorry that you had a bad experience at Sephora. I recently left a Sephora Inside JCPenny as a manager. I loved working for the company but there were a lot of issues with a fellow manager.
    Another big thing is the comment made to you during makeover. That's so rude and even more very unprofessional. If she doubted your skill then she should have done as we are trained and coached you to improve your skills. (Side note - your makeup skills look like they are just fine!)

      @@Nicole-cy4fz Right. What she needs to do is get an employment lawyer and go through the EEOC and after that process if she's given a right to sue letter then sue Sephora. But she would need to do that clearly quickly because there are time deadlines. I am an attorney but not in employment at tenley so I don't actually know what the time guide legs are but she really needs to check into that if she thinks it's important enough to go that route

She is pissed about how her managers throwing people under the boss. The reason I watched this video, is because today I went to a sephora, and this cash register lady was so nice and amazing, her manager comes over and basically bitches at her for handing me my cash and then my receipt, and not together. While the register lady was talking to me and that lady would literally roll her eyes the entire time.

      I love her, but have you seen her other job videos? Where she quit several after months , and in each one, multiple co workers didn’t like her? And her illness video where she admitted to being entitled and selfish and didn’t care about her friends ? So, as much as it’s nice to defend her, it’s not really valid. I love her so much, but I’ve watched these videos back to back. And all these personal ones, show the same thing. I’m sorry, but if multiple people don’t like you “for no reason” , then it’s probably YOU and not them.. also, it was a little disappointing to hear her rant about saying she’s entitled to those free products and how they HAVE to give them to her since one person said it in the interview. Especially if I knew I was going to quit I'd make sure to throw that place in the flames. When that lady said something rude in front of a client, it would have been a little awkward, but you could have said to the customers if they would go report it for you. Some customers are really nice and would agree that it was disrespectful and would be happy to help you out if you do good service for them.

    This reminded me of my experience at a previous place that I had worked at. A few years ago an *unspecified restaurant* was opening up in the town where I lived. I applied and was hired on the spot. The woman who hired me was the manager for that location but she had actually just been promoted to manager so it was new to her. Anyways, I was hired to be a server. We had a week until opening day and so we went in for training pretty much every day that week. A couple days in she had realized that she hired too many servers and so she made me one of the dishwashers. This was fine with me because I really liked the place and the people and I was just happy to be there. Note: She was a newly head manager but she also had two supervisors who worked under her (this is important). I had been working there for a week or two and we were so so busy. Most of the time there was only one person who was doing the dishes. The dishwasher was not only supposed to spray the plates, cups, pans and dishes but we were also supposed to dry them off and run them over to the cook line and put them on the shelves that were at the feet of the cooks in front of them. This was absolutely insane. For every rack of dishes that I put into the washer, there were literally two more racks waiting. I had eventually requested that two dishwashers be assigned per shift until the craziness of our location opening died down (a reasonable request). But the store manager denied this and so all of us dishwashers suffered for another 2 weeks or so. Eventually business slowed down to a normal pace. I would often work the night shift as the dishwasher and get done around 6am. This one particular night that I was working, it was 3am and we had no customers. We hadn't had customers in like an hour and a half. Since I was getting paid, I figured that I should make myself useful and so I asked the supervisor on duty what she would like me to work on. She said that it would be very helpful to wrap the silverware in the napkins so that it would be ready for morning. So I sat down and was working on that. About 30 minutes later the store manager came in. It took me completely off guard when she approached me and started getting verbally aggressive. She was upset that I wasn't doing the dishes (there weren't any dishes to clean AT ALL). I told her that the supervisor had assigned me to do the silverware since it still needed done. She went over and asked the supervisor and he told her the same thing. She was in a bad mood for some reason and approached me again anyway and said to me: "Look. I am the manager. I am above the supervisors. If it's not busy here and you need something to work on then call me." I was very confused at this request because I definitely wasn't going to call my manager at 3am while she is sleeping. Especially when a supervisor is there. It was insane. But I said okay anyway. A few days later it was around 11pm and we were completely packed. I don't know if we had buses or what but we had people waiting to be sat. It was busier than it had ever been. I asked the supervisor for help with the dishes because it would take at least 2 people to get these dishes done at the speed that they were needed. She told me to call the manager and ask because that is what the manager wanted. So I called the manager and told her that I needed extra help and she got mad because I called her while she was at home (???) and hung up on me. When the new schedules came out I noticed that I was not scheduled for that week- at all. I called in and asked why and one of the supervisors answered. He told me that it was just a scheduling error and to go in right away and they would get it sorted out. So I went in and both supervisors were there waiting for me (the manager wasn't there that day). Right away I knew something was off based on their behavior and the previous things that had happened there. So I decided to turn on my voice recorder in my phone. They sat me down and told me that I had actually been fired. I was shocked and had no idea why. They told me that it was very unprofessional for me to call the manager when she wasn't working instead of asking them (Lets recap: The manager told me to call her, the supervisor told me to call her). I told them that I wanted to come in and speak with the manager herself because I was very confused but they told me that she didn't want to speak with me. I left and decided to call her (I also recorded this conversation). She said that I was fired but actually wouldn't state why. I felt this was unjust and so I contacted corporate and I told them about it. They contacted me soon after and let me know that they had spoken with her. They said that the manager told them that she never fired me. The manager told them that I stopped showing up for my shifts (clearly a lie). I told them that I had the audio from me being fired and from her stating it herself and they asked me to send it to them and so I did. After this they had contacted me back and wanted to hold a meeting between me and the store manager. They apologized for her behavior and wanted to hire me back. I told them that unless they got a new general manager that I wasn't going to return. Then they went on to say that she was a good gm etc etc and that they wouldn't be replacing her but that they really wanted me to work for them again and wanted to figure out a way for me and her to work together (???). Needless to say - I will never EVER enter another *unspecified restaurant* again.
    I know this was a long story but all stories are. If you read it until the end then thank you very much for caring about my rant. It feels good to let it all out and know that someone was listening (reading in this case).

    • @sonjad.7678
      @sonjad.7678 Před 7 lety +4

      +Jenny Boone, wow you are a very hateful person! You seem like you have the same bad attitude as her assistant manager did!!!
      First off, you have to turn in your uniform because they will take it out of your paycheck or bill you for it (I understand and would want to burn it too, but it is the perfect chance to tape record a conversation with the assistant manager).
      Anyways if it were me in your situation first I would get a tape reecorder and speak to the assistant manager -ask her why you didn't get your 10 items, why you never received your raise, and after she answers all those questions ask her what you did that was so wrong that made her not like you......this way you have recorded proof of the situation - it's great to have for the BBB and the news channel).
      I would go over their heads to the GM (and if they don't cooperate then keep going up the chain of command). You need to let them know that you did not receive the 10 items during training so that you could practice with the products (and be sure to let them know that she threw the products away). Write out a letter about everything that happened (keep it short and to the point).
      Next you need to let them know you were certified on Feb 4th but that they never gave you your raise, so you should get a check for the difference. File a complaint as well about the assistant manager, write down everything that she did to you (and include the story about Katie too). Keep going up the chain of command until you get someone who listens, but if everyone doesn't want to listen then let them know that your lawyer will be talking to them and that you are also talking with the News channel personnel and the BBB (say this last because once said then usually no one will continue the discussion with you (to the last person in the chain of command)!!! You should have a local News channel that deals with fraudulent companies, and trust me they don't want you telling your story (include the fact that there are tons of people on CZcams that have had similar problems working for Sephora, and that they need to be exposed!)
      No one deserves to be treated like that! She sounds like a miserable person (and misery loves company). She broke policy by hanging up that complaint, and should be fired for it (wish you had taken a picture of the complaint hanging on the register)!!!!!
      There are plenty of pro-bono lawyers out there to help you (if it comes to that, yes they will take a big chunk (usually 30%) of the check that is still owed but you may have to go this route - if it's a really good lawyer they may be able to get you more by also suing for discrimination (such as age discrimination since you were so much younger than the assistant manager, or they may go another route)...but try to get the raise check you deserve back to the date of 2/4 by being very charming first keep going up the chain of command....and if you like the job see if they can place you at a different store). But if the last person you talk to who is the highest person up doesn't want to listen or give you the back pay you deserve- then that's when you let them know that your lawyer will be contacting them and that you are also contacting the BBB and your local/national News channel!!!!
      Now back to the comment from +Jenny Boone if you don't like her CZcams post then don't watch it...no reason for you to throw insults at the poor girl! And your comments didn't even make sense...rape really? She has every right to complain about her job and to warn others about the immoral acts of this company! To be honest you sound like a very miserable/hateful person and crazy (if you were raped or one of the other things in your post then I feel really sorry for you!) But everyone needs to vent so she should be allowed to.....and if you don't have anything nice or helpful to say then you shouldn't say anything at all!!!!!!!

    Same things happened to me. I got hired as a seasonal hire for xmas and we were supposed to be seasonal for six months which meant I was on probation (they watch you / you're only as good as your last day) for three months. Then I was kept on as part time and again, I was on probation another 3 or 6 months...so here I am working 1 year and it doesn't count for shit. None of my hard work was in my review and none of it counted towards a raise. Eventually after this year passes, I get a review and oh get this, they give me a TWELVE CENT RAISE. OMFG I was like what. the. fuck. They said it was "pro-rated" and that I would have gotten more, had I had my review a year after being actual permanently employed. The real kicker about this 12c raise is that a lot of other girls got less than that - some 6c some 10c. The worst part was that they were HIRING new girls at more than I was hired plus my 12 cent raise AND I had been working a year and a bit. So here I have experience not only from the time I was working at sephora, but from other jobs and these new girls don't, yet they're getting more than me and the other girls who've worked a while. Ugh. Then there was the time I was screwed out of sick pay - that was fun. Basically a manager was like "Do you want to go home? (code for "we're not making enough money today and so we're cutting hours") you're sick anyway, it's not like you won't get sick pay" so I did, and when my sick pay wasn't on my paycheck they were like "oh sorry you don't get paid if you volunteer to go home" ooohh I was so mad! This is just a small snippet of all the bullshit that goes on at Sephora. I would never work there again. I'm still bitter about it 5 years later lol

      ***** Yea they're 100% about money and what you can do for THEM. Even when you look at things like gratis, yes that's lovely, but it doesn't make up for piss poor pay and besides, a lot of the gratis is returned merchandise or broken/defective stuff. So my point is when they sell themselves as "generous" they are getting way more out of it. The managers get bonuses when they cut enough hours or when the store meets sales goals, which is something they don't help one bit to achieve. They aren't on the floor doing all the hard work making all the sales.
