  • I caught a Master Angler fish while testing out the Daiwa Kage Ultralight Rod! This rod is a very interesting piece of equipment. It is lightweight, sensitive, and comfortable to fish with. Only available at independent retailers, which is a very unique thing. Overall, I am obviously a fan!

    The model I picked up was the 6'1 one-piece ultralight. It reminds me a lot of the Dobyns Trout & Panfish so I may do a comparison video at some point. Make sure to let me know if that is something you'd like to see. Both rods feature a solid carbon tip which makes them extremely fast and sensitive. Paired up with low diameter line, you will have one heck of a time.

    Congrats on another master angler catch, Ethan.
    Also couldn’t agree more about the little details, when your talking about that type of money on a rod. Last thing I want is a rod that doesn’t feel good in hand at that price.
    Thanks to the Mrs, for letting you get out and fish.

      St Croix Panfish Series is a darn good rod. I find they are a bit tip-heavy for my personal preferences but that isn't a huge deal. If you find it is tip heavy, just add a little weight to the rod butt and it will balance better. Fantastic blank though :)

    @BrianKuhl Před 2 lety +1

    Thanks Jocelyn and sorry if I spelt that wrong. Thanks for bringing up the braided line bit; I am considering getting my wife a Dobyns UL but am probably putting braid on it since it won’t get much use, so perhaps a TFO would be better?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 2 lety +1

      I think the TFO with braid is a fantastic setup. Don't get me wrong, I think the Dobyns is a dope rod (I like it better than the TFO) but I would just be a bit careful with braid on it because of that solid tip. I broke one due to the line wrapping the tip and me setting the hook. I got it replaced but it cost me $80. I will probably run braid on it again someday because it feels beautiful with it, but it is a bit sketchy.

    • @BrianKuhl
      @BrianKuhl Před 2 lety

      @@FishAnything I’ll probably keep the Dobyns on the list of things to get myself, but I’ll need to seriously consider line as I almost exclusively fish a jig on UL, and I create too much slack when moving a jig or T-rig from time to time and end up wrapping the tips of other rods I already own. Perhaps a chicken and egg situation as the lack of stretch in braid may be contributing to the extra slack 🤷🏻‍♂️.

      @@FishAnything thanks for the feed back.
      just wondering: do you have any experience with the BnM TCB (Trout Crappie Bluegill) rod? It's a 6'6'' fast action rod. Wondering if you know how it stacks up to the Kage. Cheers, sir!

    where do you find master angler things

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 11 měsíci

      For Michigan, they have it on the DNR website. Not all states have “master angler” programs but many states have trophy programs of some type

    Do you think your 6lb braid to 4lb fluoro setups or 2lb mono setups cast further? Please restock mule jigs and donkey tail jrs! New to the channel and would love to sub them out for my trout magnets

      The donkey tail jr’s are back! And I’m working on the jigs. I think 6lb braid and 2lb mono are relatively comparable. I think the mono gets me a bit more distance on super light stuff but they’re equal on anything 1/32oz and up.

    Do you have any rod recommendations for a ned rig rod?

      6’8 - 7’ medium light fast is what I’d go for

    Do you recommend a fiberglass rod for UL?

      I personally don’t like glass rods. Too whippy!

      @@FishAnything I also prefer the stouter carbon rod, even with the lower diameter.

    An easy way to identify white vs black crappie is white crappie have vertical bars black crappie don’t
