What more can you ask for? Weird and wonderful - she sings them, she writes them, she produces them, she plays keyboards on them, she looks good, she sings well and she organises imaginative videos. The consummate artist. She is like no-one and no-one can be like her.

Even for Kate Bush, a genius at overlaying music and meaning, the depth of this song is amazing, one of her best. The alliteration of poetry ("erase the race that claims the place", etc) and the rhythm of an oil derrick.....who writes music with such complexity? Nobody I can think of except Kate Bush!

Her best album in my opinion - its production is still fantastic, even visionary and yet to be matched, and I just love it - she was 21 when she wrote and produced it, which blows my mind - when i was 21 i could barely wipe my own arse!😂

Totally get it! I’ve been a professional jazz keyboardist/composer and classical composer my entire adult life, but Kate’s artistic and highly innovative genius completely slays me. (Since rediscovering her in my “advanced” years, I actually find myself listening to her stuff more than my usual “fair” for not only artistic but creative inspiration.).

Combi vans were very popular I grew up with a car full of us teenagers heading to the beach, surf boards on-top, outback would be more organised, water, spare fuel can, camping essentials and pray you made it on rough roads. Outback farmers were more the Landrover and Ute.

I'm italian, and I first listened to Kate Bush in 1978, I was 8. I was mindblown. Since childhood I've always been attracted to weird, ethereal, kind of wrong time signature style songs, with hypnotic percussions, in fact this is one of my favorite songs from her, I was in love straight away and I was just a child. To me Kate Bush is like an elf, a timeless character and musician who'll never run the risk of being forgotten.

I know Kate Bush was a major source of inspiration for Björk., but the fact that this sort of music was made by a rather well known musician back then, and it almost managed to be kind of successful, amazes me.

The Dreaming is one crazy album.
And that's precisely why it's my favourite of hers.
I thought that she slipped a little bit on Hounds of Love from the majestic heights of Never For Ever and The Dreaming, and every subsequent album was slightly less than the previous album.
REM had similar problems, although I think they hit their peak with their first album Murmur. They really started to slide badly though with Green from 1988.

I’m listening to Kate Bush step by step because if I listen to everything at once my life will be empty of amazing discoveries music wise. She is terribly terribly underrated, but society was never ready for her genius and still isn’t.
I've been on a Kate Bush binge this last months aswell! and I also took my time between albums to really let them soak in. Thing is: I already went through her whole discog and I can't listen to anything else. Like, my whole musical taste has reduced to her music.
Sometimes I miss discovering new music, but it just so happens that Kate's music is so addictive. It's just album after album of top quality. Her creativity, her fearlessness and her humility, even though she's been on the spotlight for a long time and from such a young age, is still refreshing after all this years.
Kate Bush has absolutely never been underrated.

I think it's brilliant how there are artists like Kate Bush and Bjork pushing the boundaries and creating different, exciting music and videos. If only more people would acknowledge the beauty of this stuff. While mainstream music can offer up some cool things, it's only in more unusual places you can find songs of this quality!

I’m pretty sure if I told anyone at my school about this song and let them listen to this they would say they don’t know it and that it’s weird. She is so underrated and I love her so much. The only song she is actually known for is Running Up That Hill, which I’m glad got recognition because it’s an amazing song and I listened to it on repeat all day once without getting sick of it! Only the younger generation don't know her music. Apart from the obvious one. Certain cultures within Britain don't know her either. About 10 years ago I was talking to a black work colleague who only knew hip hop and generally, only music performed by black people. He said he doesn't know who Kate Bush is. So I played him 'This Woman's Work' and he said 'Nah bruv, Maxwell wrote that'. Nobody will know who Maxwell is in a century but Kate Bush will continue to find new listeners.

I was in high school of 07 when I heard this song. I thought it was the strangest song I ever heard, was lucky to come across her again now that I'm 33 and I have been listening to her for about a week now. This by far is my favorite kate bush song as it was the first one I ever heard.

Amazingly incredible Artist that is Kate Bush.
She was so way out there at the time, theres no one like her , never be anyone like her she is unique amongst her piers , you cant find any weakness in what she does and she does EVERYTHING in her songs , writes ,plays , performs , produces a rare talent even amongst other musicians.
I'm surprised a lot of people say the video to "Wuthering Heights" is creepy. This video is nightmare-material for me. Especially when the dancer talks under the ground at the end. But that still doesn't change my love for this song or the whole album itself. Love it to pieces.
I've never been a giant Kate Bush fan but I remember seeing this video as a young preteen kid in the early 80's and the song made a huge impression on me and I never forgot it. I grew up as a songwriter in a band and I can say this song was definitely impressionable to me from the first listen. Definitely ahead of it's time in my opinion. It's great to come onto youtube years later and pull it up anytime I want when it was a rarity to see this video or hear this song back in the start of the MTV days.

Rabbit Hole Bonus! Went looking for an old Berlin CD to rip to my collection and found my wife had this CD too. Yep. 2023 and I am still ripping my old CDs to the computer. It's all part of the nostalgia.

What I like is, with the particular accent she uses, "on the motorway" sounds like "on the murderway" and "you'll find them in the road" sounds like "you'll find them in the ore" ; both which add a huge dimension to this song

I think it was opportune that Kate began making music right around the time music videos exploded. She’s never been one for doing concerts, likely because she can create her complete artistic vision much more effectively with videos.
I guess you've never seen her live. I was lucky enough to witness her only 2 live shows: the Tour of Life in 1978 and "Before the Dawn" in 2014. Two different experiences I will always remember. So it's true she didn't do much on stage, but what she achieved was unforgetable, I can tell. This woman's a genius!

Great song, hated it the first time I heard it. I woke up from a nap to this video on some VH1 marathon of the 80's and it put me in a VERY strange mood. Got stuck in my head and now I love it! Kate Bush is amazing!

We grew up on this album courtesy of my mum. We were blessed, every song is a gem! Kate Bush is a genius
everytime it is pointed that she is the first exentric female songwritter and that Bjork and liz fraser and Tori Amos or Florence machine , bat for lashes or Imogen heap and all related singers come directly from her influence, that s indeed a very accurate description of her legacy.
Björk is quoted as saying The Dreaming is actually her favorite Kate Bush album. A true innovator and definitely one of the great pioneers of Art pop.
To be fair, Kate is far from the first 'eccentric' female songwriter. Check out the likes of Meredith Monk, Annette Peacock, Nico, Yoko Ono (her early 70s output especially), etc, along with punk/post-punk groups like the Slits and the Raincoats. Where Kate differs perhaps is that, like Scott Walker, she started out with a more mainstream sound and took herself off into strange musical places after establishing her career. Contemporary music would be a much lesser place without Kate's influence that's certainly true.

I had to listen to this song quite a few times, but its starting to grow on me now. The Dreaming is definitely an acquired taste for me but all good music gets better with time.

My favourite is the dreaming...a reminder to have not too neat of a garden and have a natural pest-predator balance. An incredibly diverse range of wildlife which balances itself,in a small suburban garden and if people continue to pave over gardens leading to more and more flooding we're all in trouble
