  • Tan Boon Heong (born 18 September 1987) is a former World No.1 Malaysian professional badminton player in the men's doubles event.[2]
    Diamond combination
But as the 2006 Doha Asian Games approached, the coach of the Malaysian national badminton team decided to change Tan Boon Heong’s partner to Koo Kien Keat; the new pair immediately achieved good results in the Asian Games and defeated the doubles masters of various countries (including: China’s Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng combination and Indonesia’s Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan combination, etc.) eventually won the gold medal. Later, they won the 2007 Malaysian Badminton Open, the All England Badminton Open Championship, and the Swiss Badminton Open. The repeated victories caused the Malaysian national team's doubles coach Menaki to comment on them as "a combination that shone like a diamond", and the title of the "diamond combination" finally spread like wildfire, and it is still in use today [4].
In August 2010, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat participated in the men's doubles event of the World Badminton Championships in Paris and won the runner-up. In November of the same year, Tan represented Malaysia in the Guangzhou Asian Games and participated in the men's doubles in the badminton match (with Koo Kien Keat) and men's team events, won the silver medal in men's doubles[1]. On July 28, 2013, Yonex of Japan invited Lee Chong Wei, Tan Boon Heong and Tago Kenichi from Malaysia to test the limits of the new racket. In the end, Tan Boon Heong, who was shot by his left hand, used this racket specially developed for extreme speed to hit a new world record of 493 kilometers per hour, and obtained the Guinness World Record certification, which became the current badminton smash. World record holder, smashing the ball at a speed of 493km/h.

Fu Haifeng got heavy smash, he's smash like a bomb. But Tan smash more to acceleration. The speed is just ridiculous. The problem is his smash not so many variation, easy for opponent to guess where's the smash would go.

TBH's smash is different with Fu Haifeng's and Jung Jae Sung's, his power is strong because of his synchronization of swing, shoulder and body rotation plus his outrageous wrist power. I think his wrist is more powerful than FHF and JJS but he lacks stamina and training. Back at his prime you can see he always exhausted on second set and third set, not like FHF and JJS.
