I say heck yeah on that sample pack, brother!👍👍
Yes for that sample pack! Man, your stab/synth sounds are super dope!
The first 90 seconds of this video explain so much about your workflow. Thanks for taking the time to lay it out so clearly.
absolute banger as always, another belter of a Compact Creations man❤️
Such good videos man. Great sound and super well produced!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Pyramid looks like a brilliant sequencer.
Thanks for the great overview.
You need to load the DX7 patches to the Volca fm. Even if you don’t, you need to play with the Carrier Attack and Decay of the patches to find better sounds! Volca fm is a powerful tool but takes a little time to figure out how to get good sounds out of it. Awesome video, probably my favorite Compact Creation so far!
Excellent video once more, it's cool to pick up all these little tips and tricks, and great little jam by the end of the video.
This was super fun to watch.
Great Vid
Thank for another great addition to the compact creation series. I love the Squarp Pyramid. I hook it up to my Circuit, Mono Station, and Digitone. Sure they all have sequencers, and I sketch ideas with them first, run them all through the input of the Digitone, add effects, then really get creative with the Pyramid. I had the same dilemma using gear that all have built-sequencers, however the Pyramid opens it all up - any meter, any length, long through-composed tunes. Anything is possible.
And if you haven’t checked out loopop’s hour-long vid on the Pyramid, I highly recommend it. Tons of useful info.
I click on an Enrique video. I like it. Then I watch it. Always learn something. Thank you brother.
Yooo thank you for that. I really appreciate you!
This actually convinced me to pick up the squarp.. thanks for the vid!
Whoah. VERY informative, thank you. I’m a beginner with hardware so I would love more videos like this where connections, midi channels and sequences and performing live are explained in detail. Also, thanks for walking us through what the Squarp can do!
Love watching your vids. Thank you!
watching your videos has changed my work flow and added so much hardware knowledege that now making house music more fun than ever thank you s much man! (also if you did a sample pack that would be fuego!)
It's cool to see that a sequencer assists in inspiration. Most (software) sequencers for me feel like you can enter what it should play, which it then does, but nothing more. That rotary pattern repeater for the drums already convinced me the Pyramid is a cool device!
Love my Squarp - Game changer!
Such a quality production! I am big fan of eucledean rhitms. Pyramid seams to be fun piece.
What a damn nice sequencer this is. Great demonstration.
I just got my pyramid mark 3 sequencer--I'm very happy with it--what a beauty 🎚🎛🎹🔊
how's the learning curve? you think its worth the investment? Barely gettin into modular.
Would love to see a video with your overall thoughts on the Squarp. Great to see you kick it around, but finding good info can be tough.
Thanks as always
Super dope!
The bass... nice and deep.
now i have a name for it! compact creations! that’s pretty much what i do, no pressure, no requirements, just go in and play and record it. really nice vid and thanks for getting into euclidean which i haven’t looked at in the pyramid yet. also lol fm sucks.. i love the volcas... but ugh fm.... i love the light in your vid... if i did this it wouldn’t look nearly so pro!
haha Thanks setphaser! yea the fm... is... a synth... haha, Post some of them up! i wanna check them out!
great video! a++++ squarp got their moneys worth
super cool man !
I think you convinced me to get one of that 😄
its so weird this video i was thinking man i wish he made a sound pack and 5 seconds later. YES PLEASE
Do that sample pack!
Awesome! Would love to see you do more mpc stuff. Maybe making a quick track using just your samples on the mpc ?
Yes please for the sample pack! :D
Sample pack indeed ! It would be great !
very nice deep and organic chords in the middle!
What? He finish the video and keeps jamming! Noooooo!
That was really cool Sir.
Great video !
Great vid!
This is one of the first legit songs I've seen done on a Pyramid. I have version one, and have just started learning how to use it. This video is definitely inspiration to keep going. Thanks for posting.
Subscribed!
Alan thank you!!
your content is always awesome although i always get distracted by how well the videos are edited haha
Just ordered a squarp pyramid, was tough knowing how much gear I have that has its own sequencing abilities... looking forward to a new unified approach to sequencing multiple pieces of gear!
Cool set up. Please do an ep of compact creations! Then explain it on CZcams with sound bits. Easy peasy haha
Pyramid is mental. Love to see it hooked up to some other gear. Have you got an Akai S3000xl knocking about? Plus a juicy synth, could be fun.
Dude! This is dope. Are you using any compression? Or are you just recording straight from your mixer?
Great vid! Could you do one about the midi fx? I'm so curious about how they sound! Love the Euclidian tho!
Awesome session! Now I almost regret selling my Pyramid.
I didn’t get the workflow and had no videos (or didn’t find any) like this one to take as an example. The way you show it it makes a lot of sense how one could use it both in studio and in a live set! Especially as now it should be able to continue playing while loading the next project (I jumped the ship this summer, during the beta of the new firmware, so may be remembering wrong).
But I replaced Pyramid with Deluge and it clicked with me as soon as I got started with it. Everything’s for the better, I guess.😄
That's one box I still have yet to check out!
i'd be interested in your thoughts on creating a performance sample pack specifically :)
Fan of the Jams, I can watch you make music all day, calm cool voice, great production.: I'd love to see what you can do with a reface dx next time you think Volca FM might be a good idea. The keybed feels like my childhood Hammy M3 and it's not too big. I got mine used for a little more than the Volca FM new and it sounds good for someone who hated the 80s for anything but punk rock industrial and metal.
Just nice
Amazing! Does anyone know how (or if possible) to do euclidean rhythms patterns sending midi from a Squarp Hermod into a Rytm MKII?
That last 10 seconds were sick! Wish you kept it going
Great gear!!! Can i sequencer with my roland sh-101 via cv? Thanks !!!!!!
aight so that thing is FIRE!
ugh, kinda spenny tho lol
Is this the best sequencer on the market or what? Great performance! 😊
Has that Peggy gou vibe. I know it's late but a sample pack would be great I do house as well so would be nice to hear what you put together 👍
Hey Ricky, love your channel! You are one of the few people whose opinion I feel like I can truly trust, I appreciate your opinion a lot! With that said, I'm currently in the process of trying to go DAWless and I'm hoping I can get your thought's on a couple things;
The only piece I feel I'm really missing now is the main sequencer...
Almost everyone I've seen on youtube does a single review video on a sequencer and then doesn't often address it again.
I was just wondering if you could give me your thoughts on whether that was because a complete enough solution does not exist or if it is a result of people just having enough gear to mix it up?
And along the same vein, if I buy something like the Pyramid or the Squid do you think you could make a lifetimes worth of music with it or, in your opinion, is it more like a different sequencer per album?
Do the knobs on the 404sx do a complete 360 turn or do the stop once turned all the way to the right or the left? Thanks for videos and all you do for the community .. Thank you Ricky
they don't go 360
What do you record into may I ask?? I'm having a terrible time with audio interfaces and was wondering if you had an alternate solution :(
Hi Ricky! awesome video. Do you still have and use the squarp? happy with it?
Love your videos, I always learn something. Does the Pyramid have a Circuit-like scales mode to keep improv playing in tune? Thanks man
totally does, but only 8 pads active with scales vs the 16-32 you can have on circuit. Feels a little constrained, but it also has chords in scale which circuit doesnt!
Thanks. So the Circuit does remain useful. Still super impressed with the Circuit after all these years
Very cool ....cost of that device?
I have the midi solutions with 4 midi connections. Nice mini mixer.
Hey Ricky, I love watching your videos! I have a question. Can you please do a compact creation with the new digitakt update? It's really cool with song mode and many small new things. I would love to watch that! Keep doing the good jams
GIVE US MORE!!
How is the note repeat/roll function on the Squarp Pyramid?
Sample pack yeeeees
Came here due to searching for the Pyramid -- you've probably answered this Q many times, but which hardware sequencer do you find most useful? I've seen you use Digitakt, Pyramid, and MPC, and I think you have an Octatrack too. I'm currently using a Digitakt but considering moving up to a Pyramid or MPC.
I don't know if you have done it yet but I would love for you to do a boom bap video compact creations style.
Yes
Try out the Dexed plugin for your Volca . It’s free and there’s tons of presets and you can program your own patches as well.
Don’t sleep on the volca!
Midi mutes are awesome for jamming, i wish Ableton would have this function. This is more or less how i use the mpc2000xl. It doesn't have polyrhythmic loops and fancy midi effects, but I don't really need them. And it has a great sampler, that I use in a similar way as you use the sp404 :D
I make all the drums and trigger some one shots on the mpc and send midi to some synths and a s3200 sampler.
The mpc2000xl, a 20 years old machine, is tighter than Ableton, and I don't have to deal with midi latency compensation or anything. One thing I have noticed is that Logic X handles midi MUCH BETTER than Ableton.
Toraiz SQUID or Pyramid???? which one is poer powefull for live jamming creations??
Ill never buy Pioneer again after owning their Toraiz. They dont listen to their users, their forums are useless and theres rarely updates. Squarp on the other hand is constantly releasing updates and adding good features. They seem actually passionate about their product and it's not just another serial number to add to their product list.
is the squarp still i use? What do you think of the longterm use?
Also curious what your current sequencer in use is, Thanks!
Im actually really regretting not getting the Pyramid. I had to make a decision between that and the Analog Keys by Elektron. Decided to go with the keys because I have a bunch of other Elektron gear. I HATED the stock patches of the Volca. You should substitute boutiques for volcas in every opportunity. LOL.
It be dope if you made a sample pack bro!
100% you should make sample pack) but plz make it 16 bit
nice video, buddy! Make a sound pack, pls ;)
Can anyone answer me the question if different sequences can have different Midi channels on one and the same Midi Output? For sequencing at least 5 Synths for example.
Thanks in advance!
Yes, you just need a thru port on your synths/drum machines or a midi splitter
Squarp on the way, SP-404A at the ready!
Can you record all of your mixing into a zoom multitrac recorder? Including live automation?
Zoom will record whatever you do with the audio. But it's _audio_ so you can't change the automation afterwards.
@@Stadsjaap cool thank you
How do you set the drums to be on individual tracks?
You create identical / duplicate tracks on the Pyramid that all point to the same MIDI channel as the drum machine. Then, on each separate track on the Pyramid, you will play / sequence only the relevant MIDI note for the drum sound you are triggering. Track 1 = use only note C2, Track 2 = use only note C#2, etc.
Please make a sample pack!
Just use the velocity slider on the volca
More cowbells!!!!!!!
Maybe you can give people the option to pay for the sample pack, I would love a sample pack and pay for it to give something back for the dope content!
How is this compact tho?
More cowbell plz
Nice 👍🏼 you might wanna check that copy/paste workflow you are using though bro - no need for that - the tracks are all moved in their current state just by pressing one button to create a new sequence then you just mute/unmute to taste
Sample pack would be dope!
Merry Christmas man!
...hey can you bring back circuit?
More Pyramid content please?
just when i thought i didn't need any more gear
man i'd love a sample pack, but with lots of cool synth sounds, with nice filter envelopes on it. lush chord synths
Man... How much gear do U have? 😅
toooo much haha.
@@RickyTinez do you think you could be selling any of your gear anytime soon?
Hi Rick! Great video, thank you for sharing this. Making me want to jump to my gears. Since marriage i never touched my babies. Your video tells me to make track again. Thanks a lot Rick
Hey, what do you think of the Pyramid's behavior now that you've used it for a while? I found it to be quite buggy and those pads are just fucking awful. They feel so stiff and like they get stuck or something. as an example, my menu pads would not register when I press them and I'd have to press "step" like 3-4 times before it switched over.
Full Derp-claimer: I did buy mine "mint" second hand, but I ended up getting rid of it because it was buggy AF. So yeah mang, what are your thoughts on the pads and how responsive they are? I mean, being a drum machine dude, I am surprised you like those pads.
Smeh, the pads are ok. They're not playable like an MPC, i mainly rely on the pyramid for timing. and the smartpads to do my chords. I haven't noticed any bugs but at the same time, i haven't put in many hours into it. I do like it, the pads are a bit stiff for sure. and i'm still trying to get my memory to stick with the button combos. I keep that paper sheet it comes with near by haha
@@RickyTinez Cheers man, thanks for responding. Yeah, those pads made me finally get rid of it. Just ugly feeling. I'm on the hunt for something else, but for now I'm just jamming with smaller setups and it's helping me focus much better :D
The more i see performances on the squarp the more i want one! I just worry my beatstep pro will become irrelevant.. although the beatstep pro would permanently live infront of the modular and the squarp would be amongst my midi devices. I just really like the slicer on the beatstep pro.
Except the Pyramid also has CV/Gate out >_> But I see what you're saying
Hi Enrique .You asked for patches for the volca fm so here you are .Just open a chrome browser (only works in chrome)!! with volca fm connected to your pc with midi and go here to make your own .features a built in randomizer..synthmata.com/volca-fm/
Badass! Thanks Philip!!!
Try some prime numbers for the Euclidean rhythms.
That 6 looked like a 7 though.
igual setting hardware software sólo el sabes los hecha andar correcto ok
