    Teenage Engineering have done a great job with the P.O 33, its like that perfect balance between features and quick operation. Don't ya just love it when things are as simple as possible, it enables flow. I've ordered my P.O 33, can't wait 'till it lands on my porch!

    Discovered your channel this year when, at the ripe old age of 47 and despite being poor, I decided I wanted to be even poorer (haha!) and start getting into electronic music creation. (Found you when looking for PO33 videos) Love your videos. Always informative, and unlike other hosts I won’t name you’re always fun to watch and your jams are sweet! Plus your intro is awesome. (What synth is the knob turning bit done on?) I learned how to get more from my PO33 thanks to you! Merry Christmas, and thank you!

      Bought a P033 because of Ricky's video. I really wanted an Ensoniq Mirage because that was the first sampler I worked with back in 1987 but 90 bucks was better than paying inflated prices on a Mirage. I should have bought the rack when I saw it for 75 bucks =(

    Seeing as you have an MPC, and probably other samplers, what is it about this little thing that draws you to it? I love little grooveboxes. I have a Deluge, Op-1 and the venerable Yamaha QY-70, so I totally get the Compact Creations aesthetic. To be more specific, do you feel like you are making “pro” music ( wtf that means), with these little boxes?

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  Před 5 lety +10

      Great question, I love this small sampler because it reminds me of the MPC2000. Very barebones in terms of what I consider to be a good sampler. Chromatic playing of samples, chopping, lowpass filter, trimming samples, and direct sampling in. It's all of that and more! in the size of my hand.
      Another plus for me is that it is NOT endless. Which makes me think more rather than just going and going and going.

    • @user-oi5hs8wt2o
      @user-oi5hs8wt2o Před 5 lety +2

      @@RickyTinez It's not chromatic lol. It's locked to harmonic minor. You can deal with it by transposing the sample, but anyways it seems that u can't play mixolydian mode and melodic minor on it..

    Yea in order to have a hat over a sound you have to have that sound as a sample 1-8 and not in the kit 9-16. Cuz it's mono but other than that it's sick. I just connected 5 of mine last night P.O Rhythm, sub, arcade, speak, and knock out with my Volca fm connected to ableton. With Traktor via ableton link.

    I purchased a PO-33 about 7 months ago. But a few days ago, for no apparent reason, it stopped turning on. I found him with a completely dead screen and couldn't resuscitate him. I did everything that is written on the manufacturer's website, but it did not give any results. I began to study this issue and it turned out that this is a common problem faced by po owners, it just stops turning on for no apparent reason. As far as I understand there is some error in the design or program. I wrote to the support service of teenage engineering, to which they replied to me that they could not replace my tool and could not repair it. They sent me a list of components so that I could order them and repair them myself. This is strange. Because absolutely nothing happened to PO, it just lay idle for a few days, and stopped working. If even the specialists of teenage engineering can't fix this flaw (judging by how often PO owners face this problem), why do they offer to fix it for me on their own? Then they stopped replying to my messages. I was very disappointed. I paid $ 90 for a piece that didn't even work for half a year. I was refused replacement, technical support, and no response at all. And the output sound of this thing is really shitty.

    Ive tried recording my PO33 through a focusrite scarlett and got a lot of noise, do you have any possible solution for this

    • @ChrisFineganTunes
      @ChrisFineganTunes Před 3 lety

      I guess the usual rules apply re making sure the recorded signal is as high as possible so any residual noise is minimised (both to the Scarlett and when recording the initial samples).
      I don't have a PO-33 (yet) but my understanding is that it's definitely a little bit, um, lo-fi in respect of noise levels.
      Have you tried using a noise reduction filter after you've recorded? I'm not too up on the latest software but I've used Audacity for years so my go-to would be to import to Audacity and apply the noise reduction. You can isolate part of the track that's only noise and then set the parameters you want to use when filtering that from the track (e.g. How many dB you want to drop it by etc.)
      If you go in too heavy it'll make the track sound pretty thin so subtlety is best.

      Hey Victor, you must have recorded him onto pads 9-16 instead of pads 1-8. The bottom 2 rows (9-16) are drum pads, so it'll chop the sample up. But you should be able to copy the sound from the drum section to the Melodic section (1-8), Select the sound first, then press REC + Sound + the pad you want to COPY TO. Then it'll transfer it there. Hope that helps

    i've been watching a few of these videos and i'm debating wether getting one or not. i don't have any other gear to accompany it (just a mini piano/rhodes-like keyboard).
    all the money i saved up the last few months (i'm still a teen) is exactly the amount of this bad boy. should i pull the trigger? 100 at my age isn't exactly peanuts. i don't know man.

      I thought about this a lot, why buy a po 33 rather than a sp 404 or digitakt . Well , this certainly is very basic compared but it’s all that you need, so yes buy it if you’re interested in buying one . But i many suggest getting koala sampler as it is the same and I think it works with midi controllers

    Have they made the case any better for the PO-33? I heard that the earlier ones for the 12 for example weren't very good and it was better to just have no case at all.

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  Před 5 lety +1

      the cases are okay. It might be easier to play without the case to be completely honest, the buttons have a more tactile feel when the case is off.

    Nice vids man, tutorials really helped me at the start. Love the po33. Got mine a couple months back. Got bigger samplers (korg esx that's not working well and a boss sp505) but prefer the workflow on the po33 as its limitations force you to work differently... like I'll spend months digging for samples and filling my korg or boss, then I have so many samples I dunno where to start, and the endless possibilities make you procrastinate... with the po33 I have to go into it with specific samples and the limitation of 16 patterns makes you construct songs more efficiently....... I'd prefer if it had 32 patterns (add a second pattern bank accessible by holding 'pattern') but it's still so useful to have until I get my korg serviced and fully working, even then I know I'll still use it a lot, the effects are perfect for many styles of music, especially anything glitchy

      I just have received mine, literally a couple of hours ago. Do you have any beginner-friendly suggestions on what could be a good starting distribution for samples like "use just a drum set, a chord, and 3-4 riffs samples" , or a good place to find them other than youtube? (i'm not sure i'm phrasing the question correctly, sorry)

    • @hoodooanimations6694
      @hoodooanimations6694 Před 5 lety

      @@Stormsson get all my sounds from free daws (LMMS + CAUSTIC, any random online synth I can find) and from freesound.org or sampleswap.org ... personally I organize my drums in slots 9-10-13-14, and that takes about 10-15 secs of my sampletime... if your sampling long riffs and vox your best off sampling them at double speed and dropping them an octave in the po. You can do the same with instruments (usually find it better to record a bass an octave higher and drop it on the po, as if you record a low bass tone you seem to get more 'artifacts'
