    I just had my old Sony STR-KS2300 blow up on me and I've been doing exhaustive research for three days straight. I ordered a Pioneer VSX935 receiver ($422) and a Klipsch R-120SWi Subwoofer ($250). I'm planning on setting up a 5.1.2 Atmos setup using the old Sony speakers with two old Pioneers as my height speakers temporarily. If you can comment on any mistakes it would be appreciated.
    Your video was the most comprehensive video I've watched in the last three days, and with me being an audio/video newbie I just wanted to thank you.

    This would be the perfect setup for my living room if I had the money to one day do somethin like this. I just have a LG 65" UQ9000 LCD TV & a LG 3.1 soundbar which does the job pretty good for now, but man if I could one day take it to the next level this is exactly what I'd do for sure. I love the setup man, thanks for the info on this stuff too.

      Typically on the rear of your sub, you will see a phase knob or switch. Sometimes it’s a toggle switch to choose 0 degrees or 180 degrees. Others have a variable knob that allows you to choose anywhere between 0 and 180 degrees.

In this video I noticed that you said that if you use them for on wall Atmos that you would set the toggle switch to surround and on an older video you said to set it to Atmos. Mine are set to Atmos but do I need to set it to surround to get the best result, I have 4 of them on wall as Atmos/heights. Thanks

      The more clean power the better. I would have no problem driving a 100 watt or 150 watt rated speaker with a 200 wpc amp. You’ll likely never get close to using all 200 watts but it’s great to have on reserve when you need the additional horsepower.

    If using dolby enabled speakers, like you are using, so 5.1.4, the surrounds speakers should be 90 to 110 degrees, and not the 110 to 120 degrees like you stated, as this only applies for a regular 5.1. That means that you correctly positioned the surrounds in a 90 degree angle as the Dolby guidelines indicate. See page 30 of the guidelines.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 3 měsíci

      You’re absolutely correct those are the guidelines for a 5.1.4 set up. But if I had placed the speakers where Dolby recommends, they would have blocked the walkway behind the couch and the entrance to my outdoor living area. That just was not an option.
      Every room has limitations and we have to do the best within those limitations. Even my dedicated theater room has limitations and is not a perfect setup. But man it sure brings a massive smile to my face every time I use it.

      Maybe I should just win the lotto and build a new house with a theater room. Haha!
      I'm wondering if the couch is against the back wall and have the ceiling speakers directly above the couch, would it give that aerial sound effect?

      Again, it’s not ideal because typically you want to have two speakers slightly ahead of you, and two speakers slightly behind you for a really immersive Atmos experience.
      You can get overhead affects when they are directly above you, you just won’t have the option of experiencing sound panning from say the front of the room above you to the rear of the room behind you.
      Thinking of movies like Gravity, Top Gun Maverick and A Quiet Place

      Thanks for the advice. Have a great day! I'll figure something out to make my setup better.
