I would also like recommendations for jazz/blues technique books /book of excerises? Another thing is that i haven't come across such repertoire for Alto.

    Question: For playing jazz on the recorder, I'm assuming you must have a direct blow instrument, not one with a bocal tube. Is that correct?

    Why do some recorder players point their recorder sideways? Is it the "pro" way? Does it sound different? Is it just a silly fashion, because it looks cooler?

    • @greghansen38
      @greghansen38 Před 4 lety +1

      It can't affect the sound. But it also isn't just automatically straight, you'd have to keep it there. If you care. I just closed my eyes while playing something in a mirror and then looked--not straight, and I hadn't realized it.

    • @TaliRubinstein
      @TaliRubinstein Před 4 lety +1

      I don't have a good answer - it's just a habit I've developed over the years without being aware. It doesn't help or hurt my playing, I believe. I assume it's generally better for your anatomy to keep it in the middle.

    the Bach piece is way better as it is... I mean, the bass guitar is cool, but the block flöte is just sluggish and undefined, like, anybody can play like that... and playing like this makes no sense

    • @emilynightingale7758
      @emilynightingale7758 Před 3 lety +3

      I don't know about that, how boring would music be if interpretations of pieces were limited to the 'proper way' to play them.
      That's the whole thing about music, you can be creative with it and cross genres, plus it's all notoriously subjective anyway.
      By all means, have your opinion, but don't say it like it's a fact.
      (Especially when you seem to lack an understanding of recorder music and technique, though please correct me if i'm wrong)
      I completely disagree that "like, anybody can play like that", the recorder is harder to play well than you think and Tali Rubinstein is an incredibly skilled and well regarded musician. Calling her playing, or the sound of the recorder in general, sluggish and undefined is quite a bold statement. I'd be interested to hear you back it up further.
