ok so i went back and forth between this version and the album song, and for the OFF SICK version, they added more percussion samples, possibly to make the dance more complex? the chorus is the biggest difference, in the album version, its even more... haunting sounding as you mentioned, because you just have the beat and the high pitched sample in the background. i think the album version will give you more of the "deeper" feel you wanted to hear, becausd its more focused on the bass lol

Desperately haunting kinda sexy indeed XD I think that was the intention. This song is desperate in very sense. I want you but I can't have you kind of song. I don't know but in my opinion he really is the best when it comes to these kind of songs.
It'll be so great to see you checking out Taemin's single 'Drip drop'. I think it's the best track among his catalogue yet.
I think the high pitched sample you mentioned is the same as in "I Got Love" by Taeyeon (czcams.com/video/MHqy1JsVvIE/video.htmlm4s) and "Let Me Out" by Jonghyun (czcams.com/video/TFK_T3yhzk0/video.htmlm7s) the three song seems to share some "dark/sexy" vibes, so... I guess this is a stylistic choice rather than just frequency balance.

Although I prefer the album because I don't really like the added wub sounds in the chorus, the single album for this version includes the instrumental of the song and it's very interesting to listen to. SM seems to only release instrumentals with Station releases.

Because Taemin's charming point is not only just bout his singing but also the dancing.
