Why Buy a Chinese Airgun over a Gamo?
Vložit

- Reasons why I don't recommend Gamo air rifles and why I do recommend the Crosman or Xisico XS19 air rifle.
The Crosman break barrel air rifles will be under the name of Optimus, Quest, Storm XT and many other names.
After shooting 10k pellets through my Gamo Shadow, I say these guns are not worth it. They are ugly, produce a loud twang sound, kick like a horse even if you have a weak spring inside, and just overall unpleasant to shoot with. Too many plastic parts get wobbly: barrel lock (like you said), open sights, and the 1st stage trigger spring broke for me. Cometa air rifles are much better deal for a simmilar price.

Thank you for your input!😃👍
I've purchased Gamo and other low cost air rifles. I sold them all. I still have my 1980s HW77s and other German and English air rifles. These are keepers.
For sure!😃👍
What do you think about the Crossman Shockwave @@springpistonriflefeverlone9611
That's one of the main reasons I got the 22 Optimus ,I wanted something solid not too expensive and good enough to last a long time, it's very hard or difficult to get a airgun in my country ,so it came down to I could only own one break barrel and no more than a 1000fps
And by the way there's none for sale in my country, I had to order from the USA ,and that cost me a round a $1000 us dollars
@@depiperfarm268 Wow, that is crazy expensive.
I hope that it is shooting good for you!😃👍
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 yes it is expensive, I bought it for a hundred and something on Amazon but the shipping and my country taxes very high that's why it was so expensive. And yes it is a good shooter ,I have taken hundreds of birds with it ,lots of power
I have two Gamo rifles and one is good, but it's from 1992 and has a steel breech block and all wood stock. Never had trouble with it and it's incredibly accurate to this day. However, my newest Gamo is plastic like you showed, and I've had issues with one side of the plastic breech block wearing down, visibly. This is causing looseness where the barrel meets the gun, and it's shooting so far left I can't correct it with the scope.
Sorry to hear that about your plastic Gamo.
Gamo needs to get back to building quality.
Thanks for your honesty , this sport could use more . I have the original Gamo Hunter Extreme .177 wood stock all metal (made in England) and my only complaints were the scope and the trigger as both were replaced . Just got the new version in 25 caliber wood stock metal breech . It seems people buy these budget gun and then moan that they don't preform like the higher end so they get bashed to no end . Don't like them then don't buy them simple . They are what they are like them or not . I have 5 Gamos and I'm happy with them , but that's me . Don't expect 1000.00 dollar performance from a budget gun . I got a Diana model 54 German made , guess what sent it back with problems to numerous to mention here . 800.00 plus gun . Rick Eusler spends more time talking and plugging his business that just fast forward to what I want to see . Rick can get any gun he wants from his big name sponsors , the rest of us don't have that option . Thank you I value your opinion , we all have them .
Thank you Joe😃👍
synthetic breach block ? wow. I had no idea they would even try such a thing. thanks for the video and the warning.
You are welcome. Have an awesome weekend 🙂👍
Absolutely right
A honest man
Thank you so much. Have an awesome day.🙂👍
I have two gamo from the 1990’S they are really good to shoot and very good build trigger is not plastic, I don’t know the new ones, and I have Diana 34 2007 disappointed me with the trigger plastic and tiny springs in the trigger it doesn’t look very reliable but it does work good, but the gamo I won’t sell it they’re over 30 years old and they look’s like brand new 👋👍
Very nice 🙂👍
Morning Chuck! Interesting Video! I had a Crosman Nitro which I think is a Magnum Power Gas Ram, it would shoot well for a little bit then end up shooting all over the place, spent alot of time and money with various different Scope stops and mounts and other hacks but guess was just unlucky with that one. I also own a Gamo Swarm Maxxim and admit the Recoil Reduction Rail is just a gimmick but it has been shooting very well for me for many years! I replaced the Gamo Scope with a UTG Bugbuster and that's about all, I do like the magazine and bought a few extra so that over the years now have 10 magazines in total which makes for fun and fast follow up shots. It favours the Benjamin or Crosman Premier Hollow Points or the Cheaper Velocity pellets at 16.5g which say they are made in Turkey. Would you be up to do some Spring Piston Pistol reviews in the future? I got myself a CO2 cheap crosman recently but the price of CO2 cartridges is rather pricey so looking at some Weirach HW45 but it is just so expensive! More so than a rifle! Stay Warm and God Bless man!
Thank you John.😃👍
I would definitely be up to reviewing some break barrel pistols. They are fun for close range can bashing. I don't have a break barrel pistol, but I do have the Beeman P17, Crosman 1377, and Crosman CO2. I guess Snowpeck makes a good break barrel pistol. Currently, I'm waiting for payday to order a Xisico XS25S 22 from Flying Dragon Air Rifles.🐉
Thanks Chuck! Look forward to that!!! Been looking at getting a Crosman 2250 Ratcatcher but like I say the price of CO2 here although may sound cheap, but divide that by your shotcount and it becomes expensive way quickly. Stay warm and God Bless man!@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611
Oh this was an interesting video! Haha
You had a slightly different opinion when we first started talking and seemed to stand by Gamo but there is definitely down sides to both brands
_One of the rifles that made me stain my Optimus as mentioned in Part 5 of my future stock refinishing serie 😁_
We definitely learn as we go.
I also feel it is my responsibility to let people know if I change my mind about a product and why.
In the very beginning when I was about to purchase my first Gamo, I was concerned about the synthetic breach block, but with so much advertising about Gamo, I figured it must be a good rifle. I think that Gamo can be a good rifle, but with plastic in the critical areas, with much use it is guaranteed to whare much more quickly than a steel breach block.
I even considered that Gamo CFX, but I started coming across many reviews that were not positive.
It is also true that I have been against purchasing Chinese, because I believe that would hurt our national business, but that's neither here nor there anymore, since the Chinese pretty much own everything. There is no such thing as an American-made break barrel air rifle. Even Crosman pellets are made with out of country components, most likely from China.
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611
This is exactly why those out of the box one time deal reviews can lead beginners to buy a rifle that they won't be satisfied with especially if they are sponsored... I don't like doing this so I still never finished my first pcp review haha
_{In Kenada we are not very patriotic so we sell our wood for cheap then buy the expensive stuff in other countries 😁}_
I have Gamo, short over 30.000 pallets. If you service Gamo regularly it will serve you well. Air seals and springs must be changed every 10.000 pallets. That’s my experience…
A plastic wedge detent and breach block from Gamo will not outlast a steel wedge detent and steel breach block by a very very long way!
Hi Chuck on your video everything you wanted to know about Gamo you said the ploymer barrell lock was fine after 4 years ??
I didn't remember the exact time, 3 or 4 years. None the less, similar priced airguns that have much better components will easily outlast any plastic Gamo by a very large margin.
Myself I'm glad I have a collection of HW air rifles, with the amount of imagination and the rise of Islam in our once sainted country I am really fearful of what the future holds for us the indigenous people of the British Isles, stay safe cheers for now 😊
HW's are awesome. Don't know if I can afford anymore, but I'm happy with what I have.😃👍
These are scary times, and I think that they are only going to get worse. This is a time to seek God in prayer and His Word.🙏
Crosman vantage love it thank you Chuck gamo has to much hipe had several sold all but one
You are welcome 😃👍
I got that Crosman less than 3ft from my head. One of my best shooters. Loves Cosman 7.9 HPs. It gets around 912 fps. I shoot all of my springers at 30 yards off a rest. This thing will put them all into your thumb nail. I got a Gamo just to test velocity and accuracy. Well the velocity was about the same but it hit all over the target. I mean likr 3" groups. Buying parts is a real pleasure from Crosman, Gamo won't sell you any. So no more Gamo for me. They also lie more about their velocity than any one I've ever tested.
Thank you for the great comments Patrick.😃👍 I can see your Crosman sitting by you in my head.
Im not buying anymore Gamos, or Hatsan vortex air guns.
Yes, I'm not a gas ram fan either.👍
I couldn't hit anything with my Whisper Fusion Mach1 22. I took it to the pawn shop and was happy to leave it there.
The gas ram is very violent in the Mach 1. I did get the Air Arms 16 grain pellets to group very well in the Mach 1.
This biggest problem with Gamo is all the plastic in all the wrong areas.
@springpistonriflefeverlone9611
Violent, yes.
It cost me a good scope too.
But I couldn't even hit with the sights. And I have been shooting breakers a long time.
I tried adding weight in various places too. Sometimes they are also too light.
I just bought a Gamo Wildcat whisper but haven’t put the scope on and haven’t even shot it yet. I still can return it if needed and now you have me thinking about that 🤔… this is a hard decision lol.
Hi Joe, it looks like CZcams is blocking my comments again. They don't like us airgunners. This is a link to the Crosman Optimist 22 if you are interested.

@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 very good 👍 thanks!
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 thanks for all your help! I finally made my decision. The Gamo I bought is a 177 and I told myself I’d get a 22 air rifle as well so I’m gonna keep the Gamo and buy the crosman you sent as well. It’ll be fun to mess around with both of them. If I can get at least 3 or 4 years of good use out of the Gamo, I’d be happy.
Sounds great. 😃👍
Keep me updated and I will help you all that I can.👍
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 I finally decided to shoot the Gamo Wildcat and it’s actually pretty good 👍. The cocking is very smooth and quiet and it shoots very smooth and sounds great. I was thinking! Did you ever oil the plastic piece that started to wear out on your gamo? I’m wondering if adding a small amount of oil on it once every month or so would extend the life of it 🤷♂️. I don’t know anything about these things but it cross my mind.
I just picked up an old Gamo Hunter 220. Wood and Medal . Found it at a local Pawn Shop. Still has the BSA scope on it. Shoots good....but I'm not done with it yet :)
Awesome, I would love to have one of those old Gamo's!😃👍
From that same Pawn Shop, I picked up a "newer model" Blue Streak in .20 .Seems to be several "hidden" treasures hiding in this place (Coos Bay, Oregon) oh yeah, I already have an original Blue Streak from the "60's". God Bless, Bro

So I actually just talked to Rick usler the other day about doing reviews of other spring and gas ram air rifles other then the gamo air rifles all the time.
And he told me he would like to but some of the manufactures won't send him stuff to review and it is alos getting harer to get him to send him anything as well so he is at the mercy of the manufactures and what they are willing to send him to review.
Just a little FYI anyway for what it is worth.
He won't just review any air rifle, but Gamo pays him, so he won't say anything negative about Gamo. I watched him review a Crosman air rifle and he was bashing it before he even shot it.
Not the best way to do a review, unless he was payed to attack it. So much for honest air gun reviews?
Rick use to have a good channel, but now it's only Gamo and a few Chinese PCP's.
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 well I was just relaying what he had said to me when I had asked him about it.
I do know that gamo has been a sponsor of his and I do not hold that against him as he has several.
But I do understand how that can change how you might do a review of a product as well.
I prefer the Crosman (XS19) for the simple fact it has a wood stock. Plastic open sights aren't as nice as steel ones and are an obvious cost saving by the manufacturers but they can work well whereas a plastic detent is a plain bad idea. A part which should lock up the barrel securely needs to be strong and hard wearing ie steel, making it out of plastic means it is bound to wear out.
Great comments 😃👍
3-4 years is a pretty long time and also its long enough for whoever owns it to save up enough money for a little bit better one
Actually, I have a toy from my 5th birthday that still works pretty good. So my 50 year old toy outlasted my Gamo by about 47 years.
And every Crosman gas Ram that I had just did not turn out to be good at all
I not a fan of the gas ram.
be more specific. how were they not good ? Crosman gives you a 5 year warranty on their gas rams. unbeatable.
@@bigd835
Not as good because they are more violent and harder on scopes and the gas spring is not usually adjustable.
In Europe gamo hunter extreme are more expensive than Weihrauch Hw30/35/50/57. I can't understood why people still choose gamo instead of hi quality german gun
Power hungry?
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 maybe, but we got strict rules in EU. No hunting with air rifles and many limits about the power(mostly from 7.5-16J. So power isn't the key factor in the Eu 😂but still gamo for 300$+? A huge no. Not worth it
The Beeman Kodiaks are pretty decent, they use a ball bearing lock up and if you get a good one they are pretty accurate.
You can still find the dual caliber spring powered versions. (doubles your chance of getting a good barrel 😅)
I'm sure they fun, especially if they are accurate 😃👍
I bought my first gamo it's a hunter extreme 22 it broke after about 60 shots it took over 6 weeks to repair so far using different quality match grade pellets still won't group 2inches at 20 yard's i will never buy another!!!!!!!

Actually it is both. Thank you for reminding me of the airgun detective.
There's another guy on CZcams and I really liked his reviews but something just don't seem just right when every Gamo he shoots shoots perfect groups I've had a ton of gamos and I never had one that shot very good for very long just saying and another big utuber every gamo he shoots, he brags to no end and leaves me shaking my head. Usually says it will be awesome after it breaks in aaaahh dont think so
I fully agree with you Michael.🙂👍
Personally, this is what I think.🤔
I believe that Gamo, cherry picks their rifles for Rick Eutsler, airgun Angie, but neither Rick nor Angie can shoot😆. JC at airgun detectives and that Ben character down in the desert 🏜️ are all receiving the full meal deal from Gamo.
OK first gamo rifles aren’t cheep 2 u got to tighten the scope Firmly and 3 gamo has magazines for their rifles
Ok Kaley.
Number#1 Gamo uses plastic instead of steel, that is a cheap build.
#2 How does a tight scope improve a worn out wedge detent that is made out of plastic?
#3 Plastic flimsy magazines break.
#4 Lesson learned?
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 it doesn’t matter if the rifle was made out of water $150 most people can’t afford if the scope ain’t working, there’s other scopes with extra accessories never had a problem with the magazine try gamo swarm magnum 27 foot pounds of Energy absolutely lethal $286…
@@kaleyseitz3166 No thank you.
Gamo makes some really nice air rifles. but they will cost around around 250.00 - 325.00 dollars that have 3-5 years warranties. The ones with 5 year warranties are their upper end. The Gamo Hunter Extreme Pro is a top notch powerhouse with a really nice Beech stock and steel breech block and barrel. It's only offered through Gamo USA and can be found on sale closer to 250-275 at times. When it comes to Chinese made air rifles The brand means a lot and I think Crosman has the best quality control so you have less chance of getting a bad gun. A lot of talk about German guns and of course their nice. Right now German gun price are really up. What was a 400.00 gun will cost closer to 500.00 now. Not everyone wants to spend 400-500 to go out and plink or shoot paper.
Thank you for the great comments Charles. 😃👍
Gomo needs to keep going in the direction of the Gamo Hunter Pro.👍
Remington do too !
I passed up a sale on the wood stock Remington Express for 79.00 6-7 years ago and regretted it every since. I did buy a Remington from a pawn shop 3-4 years ago that had a decent camo paint job done on it. Looked just like a sniper rifle. I was out of room and my grandson liked it so I let him have it. Regretted it too. I would sill like to get one of the Remington NPSS's from 10 or so years ago. The Remington Thunderceptor has the Trail XL powerplant. I really like the Remington's both the older USA Crosman made and the China made. The UK has models we can't get here that really look interesting. @@tonynails007

@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 thank you for the input. I couldn't figure out what the issue was. Mine was terrible right out of the box. 😒🤷
I think because there's easier access of firearms and they're so relatively cheap, Americans want cheap airguns. Then moan about the performance and say airguns are toys. We have the Xisco, Remington etc... Chinese guns and good for the money, but please delay gratification on your purchases and just save up and buy an HW 😁
In the current economy that might not be doable, besides who wants wait a year or more to get an HW, when they can start shooting now.
