Lick number one is litterally how I open one of the bluesjams I do with the rocknroll band! Check it out! facebook.com/492204530888701/posts/2034203843355421/
There are tons of great guitar players nowadays on youtube. Some of the best musicians and teachers sharing their view of music. I want to say that you are the best guitar player I've seen here. Astonishing stuff, thank you very much!
KILLER stuff RJ !!!! Gonna have to steal several of these...that final tap on lick #4 ... dang 🔥 🔥 🔥 Thanks for using my track as backdrop for these golden nuggets! PS. That's my buddy Matt Starr on the drums in the cowbell clip!
Those licks are gold. Will try to learn them all. If I have to choose one I'd go for #3 "slap in face" riff... Shocking for people used to old school stuff :)
Sliding that last 6th chord down to the third fret is the lick Lonnie Mack used on "Memphis". Never thought to take it up to the 11th fret. I'll get a lot of use out of that. Thanks again.
You're right RJ! These are licks I haven't played before; off the mainstream and innovative. Moreover, I like your teaching style because you play the lick, slow it down with tabs, slow it down again and then play the lick to a backing track. Your unique teaching style is a cut above the rest and you are a very talented musician on top of that. Thanks RJ!
Dimebag Darrell used to write it column for guitar magazine called riffer madness. I believe it was his last article that he talked about being stuck in a rut. It didn't incorporate any tableture. That I can remember. It must have been 20 years ago I read it. Because it wasn't a guitar lesson. He took a lesson in life, and applied it to guitar. And it was a very simple lesson. "If you feel like you're doing the same thing over and over again. Do something different." But he talked a lot about how he had applied the theory of doing something different in his life. And then to his guitar. And he felt as though he achieved in both aspects. It's very easy to get stuck in the rabbit hole of doing what's comfortable. Verses doing what's challenging. It's a great article. I recommend anybody who is a fan of Dimebag, and guitar. It can be very inspiring. But those were some very cool licks right there my friend. Thank you for helping me see a little more outside the box.
Love these licks! Even better is hearing what you are thinking of while you are playing them. Very helpful. Thanks RJ! (Forgot to add:my favorite is lick #3) that slide to bend sounds great.
Whoa, when you played lick #3, the lights suddenly dimmed and I looked to see if there was a bouncer at the door waiting to throw me out, cause I didn't pay no cover charge. Slinky stuff there. Thanks again.
I know, right?! This is the meat & potatoes we need. Occasional guitar/gear porn is OK, in moderation... But this is the stuff I want in my Mon-Fri curriculum! Bring this regularly, RJ, and I, for one,one will join a paid subscription. Who's with me?!
Luey Sixty-six , I for one would love to see this guy start a “Licks Library”, from which we could “borrow” on our own time and schedule. I’d pay for a service like that!
Hey RJ, maybe touch on how you can do some of these licks in different positions on the fretboard, starting on different strings. For example, I found it easier to play lick #1 starting on the B string, 13th fret. Maybe that’s for another video? I dunno.
When you played lick #1... I actually said "ohhh RJ.... " Hahahaha true story ;) Amazing as always mate! Cheers from downunder!! Make sure to come down for some masterclasses ;) Always a spare room in Canberra if needed ;)
Awesome tasty licks bro! I love that tapping lick #4, super cool! I followed along to all 5 funny thing is #5 was the hardest for me to nail, and I've been playing for over 30 yrs.! I figured I'd have a hard time with #3... Sliding up and landing on that fret that fast, but it was sliding chords around at speed that gave me the toughest time! Thanks for the super cool licks R.J.!!
Thanks man! Always thorough and concise, well thought out and presented beautifully. You are a modicum of uhhh legitness. I liked the first one, kinda had a ribot/blixa/Zappa vibe to it. The chordal riff will be useful when comping as well as in solos. I would have liked the tapping one a ton if it wasn’t late and I wasn’t trying to do it on a 12 fret Martin 000. Haha. That shit gets tricky.
Have you ever tried adding a side POV view of the fingers and frets? I feel like guitar teachers convince themselves that it works against teaching people to play with other guitarists, but I would think it just removes a potentially distracting layer of translation. It seems like a pain to film though.
*The Title of this Video is False!* (the one on the thumbnail) I heard you play that second lick in the intro to a backing track you did. I liked it so much, I stopped the video to work it out! Now you're showing it here, I feel mixed feelings! I feel vaguely jipped that now you're showing it to every man and his dog! ... but also happy, because you're correcting some of the rough edges of my interpretation of it🙂 The crummy paradox is that once you've showed us these outta-the-box licks to sound different to the crowd....the whole crowd has learnt them! Next blues jam , you go to bust out some of these licks thinking youre gonna floor everyone...and then everyone else busts out the same licks before you get your turn!!! Lol! Oh Nooo! 😱 But seriously RJ...this is the shit I've been waiting for! You've got such a creative voice in the blues scales, just learning some of your licks note for note adds soo much to us as players. Please do this as a regular segment! Please!! It'll be the best, for abso-realz 😎👍
🔴Hope you all enjoy these licks! Comment if you're gonna try these out at your next jam 🤘
❓Which lick is your favorite?
Yes Sir!
I love lick #4. I put down my piece of holiday nut roll because that lick was waaaaay tastier!
Nice licks RJ. It is Jimi's birthday today, here's a birthday tune for you :) czcams.com/video/W-M16K6UlQg/video.html

Hmmm...If I had to pick one, I'm leaning towards #5. I like the chord-based rhythmic aspect of that one :)
There are tons of great guitar players nowadays on youtube. Some of the best musicians and teachers sharing their view of music. I want to say that you are the best guitar player I've seen here. Astonishing stuff, thank you very much!

Thanks for making awesome tracks buddy!
This is your Clapton shuffle in A track - correct?
@@mikemorrison3791 yup, nailed it
Tell your buddy that was Soo wrong!! Gonna give me Nightmares, I reckon..😵 (i.e. the Cowbell pelvic thruster Dude!)
One of the Best Guitar Channels, humble and great info about guitar.... not ego .... Thank you!
Those licks are gold. Will try to learn them all. If I have to choose one I'd go for #3 "slap in face" riff... Shocking for people used to old school stuff :)
Man that #4 lick blew me away!
Amazing. 15 minutes and I have 5 great new licks in the bag. What a time to be a guitarist!
Sliding that last 6th chord down to the third fret is the lick Lonnie Mack used on "Memphis". Never thought to take it up to the 11th fret. I'll get a lot of use out of that. Thanks again.
My favourite song out of thousands, ,😍

I totally suck at blues. Used to be passable at it. Went through these licks and enjoyed them so maybe that'll get me started on something.
Gonna steal all 5 licks. I like that tapping lick best!

That guitar is so cool!
Alterdy!?! Lol Thanks RJ, good lesson and the new word made my day man!
Lick 3 and 4 striked like lightning 🌩. Lick 5 sounds like a hommage to Mr. T-Bone Walker. Great stuff👍
I'm constantly wowed by your casual genius RJ. Stealing all of these. Thanks!
All awesome. 4 is where it’s at. Thanks for these, RJ! Great way to clear the fog of the same old licks and open the mind to new ideas.
Absolutely Brilliant RJ. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
everything u teach is just best , very useful
Don Ron-Teal-io - that guitar is pretty cool! Thanks for this video!
Hey RJ, thanks so much - these are gems. Love #4 and #5, but #5 was just a revelation. Really liked one in the intro that you didn't teach too. ☺️
I’m lovin the number 4! With the tap. Almost sounds like slide or if it was a call then a slide would answer it. Well done!
We're not worthy, we're not worthy... Thanks RJ! It will be fun to try and learn those.
Lessons from the best guitar youtuber! Finally!!
Straight into the toolbox! Thanks man!
First one is killer....more outside things pliz!!! Cheers from Italy

Very cool looking guitar, with an awesome blues lesson. \m/
Absolutely top class! Will definitely be using these!
Thank you RJ for sharing.

1st lick ....diminished also.... nice
Sweet! keep the tutorials coming, I'm learning as much as I can from you!
Love these licks! Even better is hearing what you are thinking of while you are playing them. Very helpful. Thanks RJ! (Forgot to add:my favorite is lick #3) that slide to bend sounds great.

Lick #4 made my ears smile :)
Lick 4... very nice! Has a slide guitar sound. Thanks!
All of these are awesome riffs but number 4 for the win. Super pumped to add that to my bag of tricks. Thanks R.J
대단하십니다.👍👍👍

Okay lick 4 is like a conversation between Albert King and Eddie Van Halen played by RJ. This is 🎯
just lovely....nice one sir
Sick looking guitar.

Thanks R.J\m/ Happy Thanksgiving!
Nice lesson!
RJ RONQUILLO, can you make a video showing more out of the box or out of the key licks?
Les meilleurs licks de youtube, je suis fan absolu ! Merci RJ !

AWESOME man! lick n.4 is my favorite. Thanks a lot!
Awesome lesson, going to be fitting all of those licks into some jams! Love the chords in #5 but #4 is the one!
you the best guitar player R.J Ronquillo
Amazing lesson and very tasty musical licks, thank you! Now I know what to do in the upcoming 2 weeks! :-)
"gives it that altered-iness" couldn't be a more accurate description of tonal alterations. No kidding.

Ohh my! Thanks for the lesson master RJ

I'm gonna try to master them all!
Love the new intro
Thanks man, Happy Thanksgiving RJ!
That Kauer is sweet
As are the licks.
That cowbell clip is wrong on so many levels... but I still laughed! :-)

Thanks for those man. Each one of those licks are definitely what Sheriff Buford T. Justice would call, "Attention Getters."
This in blues my god the first licks
Licks 3 and 4 are very nice and hot indeed! Really love them!
Super,danke aus BRD
Can you please get John Jorgenson on as a guest
Is that last lick using a dominant 7 chord shape?
That Guitar looks like the Novo, and all look like the Mustang
the guy on cowbell could definitely use some new licks.
With the licks you are all Hendrix. Stevie Ray Frank Marino robin trower Johnny winter serious with this you are a RJ cartoon logo lol
I should do a CZcams channel, all my blues licks are highly unorthodox. Not in a good way but definitely unorthodox...
Hahaha nice philip!
