    First launched in 2016, the Yamaha MT-10 has been a hugely popular machine, nowhere more so than in the UK, which accounts for 29% of global sales. Now promising ‘more power, more control and more adrenaline’, the 2022 bike gets a full suite of electronic rider aids, it’s been restyled, it’s got a Euro 5-compliant motor making more power, and it’s even more economical.
    In this video, we find out if it's an improvement on the previous model, or a disappointment...

      Sorry, but I've had my MT10 for nearly 5 years now and I disagree with many of your conclusions, having had an hour and a half on the new model. Whereas the old bike has the best sound, that I've ever experienced in 56 years of riding (going from an A65 on twin Goldie exhausts, through CBX ^s with 6 into 1, and 6 into 6) and many many others, but they have spoilt the sound of this new bike and the bike also looks too bland, when you look at it from either side. Missed opportunity Yamaha, so I'm keeping mine and I'm utterly besotted by this bike(which has the essential 'Comfort seat').

    Snatchy throttle on/off is the same story for any motorcycle these days: injection fuel cut in throttle-closed condition. Reapply throttle and injectors start spraying again, but a slight delay from a dry intake sends a cascade of torque through the drive train to the rubber. Do this on/off mid corner and you'll be frustrated. Emissions regs demand injectors be shut off when the throttle is closed. ECU flash fixes this, keeps injectors active when the throttle is closed and provides throttle control more akin to a finely tuned carburetor.

Would it stop me from owning one? I'm not sure... There's no real alternative at this price except the GSX1000 which does look better but is outclassed in every other way...

    That stand-still-to-switch BS is there on the previous model, too. As on owner of an SP I can confirm it's oine of the most annoying and unnecessary mishaps of an otherwise near perfect bike. You turn from a good tarmac to a side road (because that's where your route leads ffs!) but you cant change your suspension settings without stopping. Now you say OK, stop then! But you are a group lead, you stop everybody stops (and laughs). No problem on Super Tenere for example, why on MT10? Same when it rains or you just run on a piece of wet tarmac, you'd just flick it to D and continue to safety uninterrupted, but no! You need to stop first switch, go again, then when conditions change, do the same again. Really annoying and not necessarily safe, especially when you need to stop on the side of the road in rain.

    Still tryna decide between a 2016 Tuono V4 Factory or a 2017 Mt-10 🥲, both sound good of course I just feel like the Yamaha is better on service intervals

    • @FadilKarim
      @FadilKarim Před 2 lety +3

      Test ride both. I did not find the Tuono to be very comfortable. It has a more aggressive seating position (bent over, knees tucked, etc) which got tiring on my knees, back, and wrist. And the electronics were a bit fiddly to live with on a day-to-day basis. Example: when you use cruise control and want to adjust your speed in small increments, it lurches forward like a beginner rider with whiskey throttle rather than smoothly adding power. The handlebars are also a little vibey at highway speeds. I rode it for ~100 miles and was pretty dang tired. That being said, the fit/finish, sound, and handling were phenomenal!
      I then test rode the MT10 and it was a night and day difference in the comfort department. More than enough performance for an average rider like myself, but miles ahead in comfort, reliability, cost of ownership, parts, etc. The inline 4 engine is butter smooth on the long highway rides, the seating position is great, cruise control is more refined, and the power/handling are spot on as well. Doesn't sound as nice as the Tuono but the crossplane engine is a special one nonetheless. I can easily put triple the miles on the MT and be less fatigued than riding the Tuono.

    • @NudaMan
      @NudaMan Před 2 lety +2

      @@FadilKarim I did test ride both and matter of fact I took the MT-10 home a couple of nights because I was so in love with it lol, the major major plus for me was the “Hazard Lights Button” on the right switch gear for lane splitting to work 👌🏾, and the power was more than enough (literally 20 hp more than my aprilia I have now), but for the aprilia (I work at a Ktm/aprilia dealership) parts and servicing wouldn’t be too bad for me it’s just the thought of anything going wrong on the aprilia and the huge wait for parts from Italy that’s puts me off from getting it…, the seating position was a little awkward being a naked but felt like I was riding a RSV4 with a bar on it lol and the pressure on my hands would hurt after a 1hr trip or more but that’s an easy fix with some rizoma bars 🤷🏾‍♂️ but the looks I was getting from everybody was insane on the tuono factory I never seen so many people break there neck and just stop in Awwww🤩 but tbh the CP4 engine is just as nice and the MT-10 looks more crazy than the aprilia 😉

    Fellas, you keep saying if you ride off in D mode and you want more power you have to stop to change mode. That’s incorrect because If you want more power, just change the PWR mode which can be changed on the fly. A B C D modes are just preset groupings which can ALL be individually modified to suit your style. The only things you can’t change on the fly are LIFT and the engine brake and ABS mode…. And quick shifter.
    If you spread misinformation…… you might dissuade someone buying a bike.

    Though I much appreciate most of your presentation, I would like to comment on some point which I think you were biased towards European brands.
    Change modes (4:40 minute). You said it, on any of the 4 modes you can change, Power, TC and SC. You pretend that you were opening the throttle and the bike didn't move. in addition you emphasise that other European bikes could do it. You could easily change power mode on the fly and try any of the 4 power modes. Simple.
    Brakes (7:25-9:34) everybody, not just you, avoid to say how hard are the Brembo brakes on every day use with their on-off braking state. Japanese bikes are a little spongy because they are design for road use mostly and not Track days. MT-10 is an occasional (as all other necked bikes) race track bike. I personally prefer a nice every day bike with excellent brakes than the on-off track focused Ducati street fighter or Tuono Factory. In case you ask, yes I ridden both Tuono and street fighter.
    Power, The answer is simple. 150hp is more than enough for very fast road ride. Best example is Ducati Panicale. They recommend for street ride, mode 4, 150hp output power. Same like Yamaha power mode 2, Aprilia Tuono, BMW and so on... You said it too, power mode 1 (full power) is unusable even for the track, for the average rider. Same apply to Ducati, BMW or Aprilia.
    Sorry for the grammar, I am not english.
