  • In this video we fit a second hand lewmar anchor windlass to the front of the project boat.
We also show how to wire the windlass up to the switch, solenoid and battery.

Nice video, what size cable / flex did you use from the battery to the solanoid? Looks a bit thin they draw a lot of currant if you have a heavy anchor and 50ft of chain try too haul up specially if it's stuck.

Hi mate, yes that’s just the wire I used to mock it all up and test it without load. Bigger gauge wire now in place 👍🏻

@@Suffolksportsfishing. Well done it was very informative and hate telling people how too suck eggs but had one my self and that used to get hot, think it had 4mm solid copper but bought some cheap jump leads and used the stranded wires they seam to handle the currant better.

Thanks for the help mate - jump wires are the cheapest way of getting a decent length of decent gauge wire for the job. Cheers for the advice mate 👍🏻

Never, ever, ever take a direct supply from a battery without an appropriate fuse or circuit breaker rated to the cable size unless it is the engine start circuit. Quickest way to a fire!!

Thanks mate, it was just a quick wiring job to test that it worked. Now all wired up properly with fuses 👍🏻
