  • The sixty-eighth episode of Boss Analysis is yet another video about boss short-cuts.
    Boss Short-cuts are what I called any special strategies that can instantly or almost-instantly kill a boss, or any strategies that make the boss incredibly easy. Some are intentional, some aren't, but in any case, they're always amazing to discover.

    You can still kind of use a short-cut for round 2 Mewtwo. You start off with Electrode or Abra to paralyze him and fill up the rest of your team with rental Pokemon that have OHKO attacks like diglett and ponita. Due to the paralysis, they will be able to outspeed Mewtwo so their OHKOs actually have a chance to connect and in my experience at least one of them will. To me thats the most consistent (dare I say only) way to beat him using nothing but rentals

    • @furiouscorgi6614
      @furiouscorgi6614 Před 6 měsíci +2

      If I recall correctly, the risky route for Mewtwo 2 uses Para + OHKO, and the safer but slower route uses Para + boom stack, in the speedrun
      Edit: added that it's for the speedrun

    For my own example, Ceaseless Discharge from Dark souls 1 has an intended quick kill strat. If you aggro him by taking the black robes, then run to the fog gate you entered from, he will jump at you and slam his fist.... thing on the arena. If you hit him 6 times with anything, he falls off and dies instantly. I usually do this because the boss kinda sucks to fight legitimately and it's a good way to get some early souls.

    In Dragon Quest 9, one of the bosses that gave me the most trouble on the main campaign was Hootingham-Gore. He's the resident spellcaster in the Triumvirate and he knows it: he brought a pair of Bad Karmours to soak up attacks and dish out physical damage. This also means the shortcut I use on the more powerful Fowleye doesn't work. Luckily, there's still some tricks you can pull off.
    There's a strategy I discovered after it got turned into a meme: using Double-Edged Sword in a state of Super-High Tension can one-shot the main boss (and also the gladiator using the move, but that can be fixed by Zing and Yggdrasil leaves)
    The Bad Karmours can also be pretty tough on account of being a higher enemy tier than the ones you're expected to fight at this point. This is also their weakness: because they're still classified as regular enemies, they are not immune to Whack. Hootingham-Gore may be wise enough to bring his own tanks but he doesn't have the ability to call reinforcements. This means you can now use the first strat without relying on Bad Karmour behaviour if you don't care about the gladiator missing out on leveling up.

    The Mewtwo fight in Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver only has Psycho Cut as its attacking move. This makes MEWTWO, of all things, the easiest legendary to catch in the game if you use any Dark-type Pokemon.
    Oh, and its other three moves are Amnesia, Power Swap, and Guard Swap. It's as if somebody tried to sabotage the poor thing on purpose.

    • @RaceBandit
      @RaceBandit Před 6 měsíci

      A similar thing _might_ have happened in FR/LG. I don't remember what Mewtwo gets there, but if it's only damage was Normal and Psychic, you could do Sevii Island stuff to bring over a Sableye from RSE.

    I always knew X/Y were the easiest Pokemon games ever, but the fact that Korrina can be easily soloed with a Honedge is just crazy to me
    Speaking of easy Fighting type gym leaders, an honorable mention should go to Brawly in Emerald; the only damaging moves his mons have are Fighting type, meaning his fight becomes a joke if you get lucky and find a Sableye in the nearby Granite Cave

Probably because getting them for that fight requires not just a sequence break but beating the Gerudo Training Grounds, a far greater challenge than Bongo Bongo.
    -
    One boss skip I laughed at was Buzzar the Buzzard in Chapter 2 of Paper Mario. Bowser has sent him out to dispose of Mario, but Buzzar forgot to ask what 'Mario' looks like. So if you identify yourself as Luigi when asked, instead of fighting you Buzzar just flies off searching for Mario, never again to be seen for the rest of the game. Heroic. Now I'm picturing him tracking down Luigi and ruining his day.

    As far as a game built around sequence breaking goes, Rabi-Ribi has a ton of different achievements and tricks that heavily encourage it (and it's a metroidvania). There's one achievement that requires you to do a 0% run for example, or others that need you to get to a part of the game that you aren't supposed to go yet, or defeat a boss without having an item that was intended for it.

    Here are some Boss Shortcuts from SMTIV and IV Apocalypse:
    In IV the Boss Asmodeus is the only Boss that resists Light instant of being immune to it. This means there is a chance to instakill him with a lucky Lightspell and make him a complete joke.
    The Shortcut in IV Apocalypse only exists in unpatched versions of the game, due to it´s nature as as glitch. In IVA Light and Dark Spells can now deal damage and have a chance to instakill while Smirking. Bosses are also programmed to be immune to being instakilled, even if they aren´t immune to light and dark spells. There was however a glitch that broke the game in two. The Demon White Rider has an unique Skill called Gods Bow, which instakills anything not immune to light even without Smirking. Normally this doesen´t work on Bosses, but if you gave him Light Pierce, which normally only ignores regular Elemental Resistances/Immunities, let´s him ignore the Bosses Instakill Immunity. This was quickly fixed for good reason.

    In Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, I think INT works differently. Usually it does boost subweapons, spells, familiar damage, etc. In CotM however, it just affects Nathan's MP regeneration rate. I wanna say all subweapons' damage is based on your ATK, usually a fraction of it, and that DSS card combos can increase or decrease ATK based on the combo. To say nothing of elemental weaknesses and resists.
    That said? As someone who unironically loves the throwing knives in Castlevania? Knife-spamming to beat Adrammalech is really freakin' cool. I may have to try that if he really irks me, next time I get to him.

    Funny that you mention wanting to design a boss on top of a building that could be killed by slipping off of a banana peel, and falling off of the building as a result. Hearing that brought back memories of how, in Dark Souls, I could instantly kill off the Iron Golem at Sen's Fortress by making it fall down while its back was right next to the abyss below, which could be done easily by luring it to the narrow bridge located behind it when you enter the boss arena.

    If you want to see how a non-broken Urshifu might look, Unbound gives Pangoro Wicked Blow, which combines pretty good with Iron Fist. Oh, and Drapion gets it too- which combos really great with Sniper, but still at least doesn't ignore Protect.
