- Hi! As the game is finally officially available, I've decided to share my own experience from the game from beginning to End.
This is the Culex Hidden Final Boss Battle the first time you'll meet him. To get him, it's the exact same way as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
This was initially the hardest fight you'll take in this game but not in the remake anymore.
I did absolutely everything from the game and I also recorded all the stuff.
If you don't want to get spoiled although it's from a game that already existed, don't go on the internet.
I hope you appreciate my videos content, not an easy task to do but I'm here now.

I love that they managed to keep his 2D version from the original AND made a fancy new 3D version for the rematch. This really is such a great remake!

As a kid I was totally caught off gaurd by this secret fight and even more so by the boss music from the first rpg I ever played. So happy they kept everything 🥲

Final Fantasy 4, specifically.
This music also got used for the Arch-fiend boss encounters in Final Fantasy 14.
They both kept the old and added the new. You can rematch him in the post game and even though you have to challenge all the other postgame bosses first, the struggle is entirely worth it.
They retained his original JPN character AND his US backstory. Perfect adaptation. No notes.
I'm glad the dialogue is now more similar than the original one in japanese.

I love that the characters have fighting posses now. It felt a bit deflating when they stood like statues in the OG.
I love hearing good old final fantasy IV in this game
I laughed so hard at the idea of fighting him in 2D with retro music, that was great!
I was so worried they were going to remove this boss in the remake but it’s awesome that it returned.
I honestly didn't expect them to bring culex back, but I'm glad they did
Well, it was an original secret boss from the Mario RPG, it was obvious that they would bring it, it would have even felt strange if they removed it xd
This is so strange to witness after an additional 20+ years of Nintendo's history with Final Fantasy.
I may not have been around during the original SNES games' time, but I can appreciate how amazing something like this truly is
The Final Fantasy Prelude playing after you beat him is such a nice touch
It sent chills down my spine. FF4 was one of the first games I ever beat.
Let's be honest, the remake just makes this fight a hundred times funnier.
In a way it does sound pretty funny that a Final Fantasy-like monster finds its way into a Mario world in 2D and then takes it a step further with 3D. it sounds brilliant and hilarious

The difference between graphical styles is way more pronounced when Mario's party isn't pre-rendered lol.

For a 2D battle, they did this perfectly. The battle mechanics, Yoko's original music, everything. Is it just me, or is this battle easier than in the original?
Nobuo Uematsu composed this piece. It's an arrangement of the Final Fantasy IV boss battle theme.Yoko Shimomura is a fantastic musician though, and I adore her work on this game.
Don’t worry about this match potentially being easier. You should check out his rematch. It’s beautiful.
Being able to swap out party members makes this much MUCH easier.
If you want an added challenge don't swap party members, don't use triple attacks. If you want even more of a challenge, don't use timed hits either.
And, the 2d version ls, also a remake? Yet the same ff4 from snes Mario rpg playing ?

I don't know if someone has already stated this but remember that in the Original Mario RPG magic-based attacks cannot be blocked that explains why culex was so difficult and obviously they changed that to make a more easy boss in the switch version

We don't need FFVII in everything, there's a reason people roll their eyes whenever people talk about VII. Not because it's bad, but because it's shoved down our throats. And besides, so many people talk about how VI is the best game in the series so where's the love for that game? Pretty much everyone and their mother talk about how Kefka is the best WRITTEN villian, so why not represent their game for once?

@@AzumarillConGafasBvJust that his regular attack is kinda meh and his heal is not as good as peach so he alway get benched by Geno as he have similar magic power but he can also BUFF your party

You have the option of have a rematch with Culex sometime after beating him. He will have returned to Mario's world with a brand new power: THE THIRD DIMENSION!
And a phase 2.

I remember that in the original Super Nintendo game you had to choose wisely which 3 characters you were going to take or else this damn guy who hits like a truck was going to destroy you

That video is from the remastered version of Super Mario RPG. But they obviously didn't change the look of Culex in the remastered version since he was a 2D sprite back then. Probably just upscaled him though.

@@warkiller they could have made Culex 3D like the rest, but this is part of his character. He comes from a 2 Dimensional Realm hence the script of this scene. It's more based on the Japanese one than the original Localization Script

What level did you fight this guy? I fought him at Lv30 right after beating the game
You can switch teammates plus the triple attack? Seems that would make the game even easier.
Don't worry, Culex has an even more intense battle to match up to that
OH boy just wait until the rematch...
You could always just choose to not use those things if you want a challenge tho. I used to play the original game without using timed attacks to make it harder.
rock candies first>fire bomb on blue>ice bomb on red, then finish with lazy shell, star rain
Imagine trying to beat Culex in this game, well Weiss is even harder in FFVII Remake

Why in other videos is Culex in 3D and very different?
Culex 3D is the rematch, and of course he is a lot stronger than his 2D form.
I was wondering why you were taking so much damage then I figured our you didn't have the Lazy Shell armor equipped as well as Peach's frying pan I usually wait until i'm in the mid 20s to fight this guy like level 24 I usually fight this guy before fighting Smithy at least that's what I did when I played this on the Wii virtual console

So Culex is kept 2D. Apparently there's a 3D Version, but how does that happen?
Just recently beat the game, I believe you need to beat all bosses that can be rematched (idk how many bosses have rematches)and then return to monstro town and enter the sealed area again to fight culex again (this is just a guess since I tried to fight culex again but the door was locked again)

>Use the voucher given when you re-enter the game

Nope, his plotline of being flat was in the og game, but only un the japanese version since for the localisation they changed It for some reason

i think its stupid you can swap characters out mid-battle, and the gauge kinda panders to the kids and takes some difficulty out of the game.
Makes it easy for new players to figure out how to play. For older players, it makes it easier. As a new player myself, I know the gauge will help make the game more fun for me and easier to figure out and understand.

@@kusunoki_sushi I don’t see why new players should have to suffer. But this does make me think of an answer: old players can challenge themselves by avoiding the special move and instead only use what they’re given. A nice challenge, like those “don’t touch coins” challenges, but instead a “don’t use the special move” challenge, you know?
This game was kinda easy to begin with. Plus they added boss rematches specifically to create more difficult fights
