    Another hot estate! This new top version of the Golf estate offers even a launch control. It’s way more expensive than the ones from Seat and Skoda, but also comes with more equipment from serial production. Not the better deal, but the more exklusive one. Thomas Majchrzak of Autogefühl takes you on this in-depth review.

    I really like Thomas Majchrzak! He is factual and pleasant, without being overly dramatic, like a lot of US and British presenters. While I enjoy Jeremy Clarkson, most other hosts are just annoyingly dramatic. Thomas is relaxed without being boring.
    I'd like to see him do a test of the Golf SportWagen AllTrack or possibly even a 237 hp TDI SportWagen. (I'm hoping that the US will see an AllTrack with the TDI engine and a 6-speed manual transmission.)

    i see quite a few instances, like at 31:32, where it looks like someone added the rain effect to the B-roll because it is always in focus, always falls in the same direction and no rain drops fall onto the camera lens :)

    Great review! I bought a 2018 SportwagenS 4Motion this last July. I commute 50mi each way to work so I have 11K+ already and knock wood, not a single issue. I came back to VW after 14 years with Volvo- this is my 4th new VW in my driving life. It was hard to come back for several reasons, i.e., the VW PR problems, the safety confidence I had with Volvo. However, I was not going to pay Volvo the $50K+ this car would have cost me with them. No way. I’m calling this “The Poor Man’s Volvo”. It’s the first AWD car I’ve ever owned and of course we’ve only had 1 snow storm so far in Connecticut. I took it out into 5-6 inches of unplowed snow, with the original equipment tires no snows, and this car is freaking crazy sick great in the snow! I live in the hills of Litchfield County and I’m telling you, I had to pull or sorts of momentum tactics to get up the hills to our house with FWD in the past. I would have to somehow hit the last 45 degree turn at like 20mph without sliding to the side to have enough speed to get up the last hill. If it wasn’t plowed it would take several attempts, many times sliding back down the freaking hill, hoping the damn plow wasn’t coming- or anyone else for that matter- who was going to kill me. All that WITH 4 snows. This freaking car was like- I could have been ASLEEP- like a billy goat climbing on top of the barn roof. NO FREAKING PROBLEM! Honest to Pete I was laughing it was so effortless. No snow driving skills required with this car! I literally started at the bottom of steep hills from a dead stop- this car is a unreal. I thought I was going to put 4 snows on her- NOT NECESSARY! Needless to say I couldn’t be more pleased with this car. Anyone in snow country thinking about AWD here it is. I know Subaru has the loyal following, and believe me I test drove them, but I just can’t stand their styling. Nor their driving/handling. Just too pedestrian on all counts. I have many friends who’ve driven Subs for years and wouldn't drive anything else- but they can keep them. This car is like a little Audi- and get this: I too got $5200 off sticker, which was only $26+ to begin with. Had to go to Massachusetts to find a base model w/ 4Motion but who cares- took a day to get her, register her in CT & in my garage. Looks like a much more expensive car, not that I care, but it’s a chic little wagon. My only VW gripe is that it has none of the new safety features that are pretty much standard on all cars now, i.e., blind spot, auto braking, etc. But what the heck- all I wanted was the 4Motion and I wasn’t going to go to the Alltrack for another $10K+ to get all that. This is still the best kept secret value, in my book. I hope to have it for many years!

    Hey Thomas, I recently drove the regular Golf R in Canada. I loved almost everything about it except for the gear ratios, which at the 6th gear was 0.91 - so at highway speeds you could hear the engine more than you would want to (especially compared to my GTI at 0.61 for the final gear. The new MK7.5 is supposed to have a 7 speed DSG, but I'm not sure if the ratios are supposed to be closer to the GTI for the last driven gear. Is it maybe the same transmission as the S-tronic in the RS3 and TT-RS? Love the channel, keep up the good work.

    A very good, in depth review too. I bought my Mk7 Golf GTi at the end of last year. I wish there was a GTi estate. I don't think I'd be able to justify a 300bhp, petrol estate to myself, due to the undoubtedly low MPG.

    There is no other way of putting this: another excellent review!! I own a mk7 GTI myself, but the R is very very nice indeed..... but unfortunately way too expensive over in the Netherlands, as it is 15.000 euro more expensive than a GTI: the R variant is starting at 52.000 euros, for that money you get an Audi RS3 sportback in Germany! And although I love the Golf R to death, the RS3 with it's epic 5-cylinder fire breathing 367HP engine is in another league...

    As a recent B5 S4 Avant owner in the USA, tuned to stage 1, I continue to read where VAG CARS wants more SUV/CUV sales in N America. Just read this week Audi wants 45% of sales as SUVs. Not sure if that is global or just NA. Also Porsche just announced the new Macan could be 1/3 of all their sales.. I think that too is just in the NA mkt. As a wagon owner disappointed more euro wagons don't make it to NA. Ie TDI Passat Alltracks etc. nice review Thomas thxs, might be as close to an R Variant as Ill get.

    Hi Thomas, I have a question for you regarding this car. Are the 4 exhaust pipes in the rear real or are two real (the outside ones) and the other two (the inner ones) fake, just for the looks of the car?

    • @aquiestou77

      No, unfortunately I couldn't state that. Looking over pictures of the rear there's a difference between the outer and the inner exhaust pupes and the outer ones allways look darker...

    Hi Thomas, love your reviews, always great detail. Just a word on this review though - the word "variant" means the same as "version".
    For example, this is not the Golf R Variant. This is the R variant of the Golf Estate.
    Keep up the good work mate!

      @mrpaulvitti Před 8 lety

      This is the Golf R Variant, at least in Germany and the Nordics. Get your facts right.
      In the UK, It's called the Golf Estate.

    Warum ein 2.0L 300PS turbomotor der es sicher nicht lange machen wird.... Ein V6 mit 3.0L leistet auch ohne Turbo oder kompressor mehr als genug Power und entwickelt ein höheres Drehmoment

    • @GTI_CHHA
      @GTI_CHHA Před 9 lety

      Timo Ta A 3 liter V6 wouldn't fit into the engine bay of a Golf 7 to begin with and secondly, a normally aspirated 3 liter V6 would have a maximum of 250HP and "only" about 300Nm of torque. Compare this to this 2 liter turbo with 300HP and 380Nm of torque.....

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 9 lety
