One big fault with the Gyrotiller was that it would tear to bits field tile drains when used at full depth of over 2 feet. The results was boggy patches that caused ongoing problems until repairs were done to restore the drains. Many of the tile drains were dug by hand and paid for @ so much a chain (22 yards) to the depth of 1 spade depth (10 inches) plus 1 Spit (16 inches?). Needless to say that this depth was not strictly monitored an adhered too. A short length trench was dug tiles laid then backfilled with spoil from the next short length.
