  • We do the first drop and fill on our long term shop 22 350 EXCF and take a look at the very trick and innovative AKT Oil Filter that we installed in the bike when we took delivery before ever even starting it up.
    We’ll be dual sporting this 350 through Idaho and Baja over the next few months and running Motul 7100 oil at various interval changes and collecting samples to send out to oil testing labs to monitor the results.
    *CORRECTION*
    250/350 bikes take 1.16q of new oil
    Q: Why is there so much black sludge collected on the filter?
    A: In addition to ferrous materials like steel, Iron, etc In the sludge the AKT FIlter is also grabbing and trapping sooty carbon micro particles out of the oil and holding them in suspension rather than letting it continuously pass through a paper or stainless mesh filter and be recirculated through the system.
    More info about the AKT filter is on our site.

    I like the look of this filter and the science behind it. it's around the price of 35 paper filters in the UK with shipping. at 20hr service intervals that's around 700 hours use.

    Thought these were super cool since I first saw them. Wish I got to ride enough to warrant buying one. I had 12.5hrs and one oil change last year 😞

    These should be incorporated into every filter on the bike including the drain plug. Seems like it would extend oils changes because you can get the crud out even on a daily basis. Tip the bike so the oil doesn't come out, and simply clean the filter. Do it...or I will. lol

    I'd love to see some independent analysis of that sludge, show for sure that non-ferrous metal somehow sticks to a magnet. Any way to get that done? Oops, just finished the vid. I fired off too soon. Look forward to the analysis! Thanks.

    How many hours on first oil change? When I talked to the owner of a shop in Mn he said to run 5-7 hrs before changing out the break in oil that is used. Manual says 2-3 hrs. I ran my FE 7 hours and haven’t had any oil burning issues in 170 hrs. I’ve been changing oil every 17-25 hrs.

      The manual on a 2022 350 excf says 31 miles for first oil change. I did mine at 3.3 hours and the second at 7.4 hours. First change was new filter and screen clean and new oil. Second one I did not replace the filter. I replace filter every other change. I’m about to do my 3rd oil change at 7hrs this time. I think I can get 10-12 hrs but I’m playing it safe the first 30 hours.

    Wow, you show me something cool every video! I think it would take many oil changes to make your money back on that filter. But if it proves to be more effective, then the cost could be justified. Do the newest 350 & 500 EXC-F’s share the same wide-ratio transmission?

    • @ablaze3717
      @ablaze3717 Před 2 lety +1

      As far as I know yes the 22 models all come with the wide ratio 6 speeds tranny. This can be manipulated with sprocket changes

    How does aluminum stick to the magnets? Magic?

    • @ja-no6fx
      @ja-no6fx Před 2 lety +2

      it mixes with the ferrous black "sludge" which then sticks to the magnet. Run a magnet through a scrap yard and you'll see all sorts of nonferrous stuff stick to it.

      Normal with a magnetic filter tech as it’s picking up ferrous, non ferrous and combustion carbon byproducts. Amazing performance demonstrated here.

      Assuming that’s why you stopped the video at that point. When you looked at the sight glass and realized there was to much in it. Because I was curious to see how you filled it after watching the ultimate oil change video. Assuming you just took some oil back out?

      @@TACOMOTOCO mike I completely understand 100%. I only have one bike to worry about and you work with so many different models. Your knowledge shows. The books and oil manufacturers all say low oil can cause catastrophic damage but none say what to much oil will do? Do you know what having to much oil can do? Because Im guilty too and ran 1.6 Litre for 4 hours before I knew. I also looked at a 500 manual not the 350. Do you know any serious issues that can come from to much?
