Pitcher is supposed to throw the batter’s timing off, either with the pitch’s speed, or curvature, or timing of the pitcher’s release.
If the batter swings, he was ready. Umpire got it wrong. I think the umpire was not ready.

Sorry, it does not matter when the umpire gives the wave off signal. What matters is WHEN he decided to wave it off. Human reaction has this thing called a time element. I am a former amateur umpire with over 3000 games worked. Watch the replay again. Diaz never went into his crouch like he would have if the pitch was kosher. He knew there was a violation. As umpires we are taught to ALWAYS step out from behind the plate when the pitcher commits a violation. The very fact that Diaz NEVER went into a crouch and started to move out from behind the plate as the quick pitch was being delivered shows that he already had the quick pitch called.

That's a great pickup. BUT if you watch Diaz he always settles into a crouch and was getting into that position , does that make a difference?? This is a very good comment btw

Let me start with Laz Diaz is the 2nd worst ump in MLB. Seriously, I want to fight the guy. That being said, he is obviously moving out from behind the catcher before the pitch so don’t try to say it was after the fact. Nobody likes Cotrtez’s BS delivery. But he can’t have it both ways and balk every throw then quick pitch it whenever he wants. His whole strat goes against the spirit of the rules. Just call it a balk and be done with it.
You need someone on base for a balk.

stanton has not been amazing, hes been good enough and useful at times. He won't ever be great again, but hopefully he can stay healthy and abv avg at hitting
